This was so moving!! DS's confirmation class just performed the Living Stations of the Cross for Good Friday and it was remarkable. DS and 2 girls were narrators and the other kids acted out each station going around the church. The boy playing Jesus actually drags a huge cross around with him and they put him up on it at the end. Not a dry eye in the church. It was especially great seeing 18 high school juniors participate in the service. They will do it again at 7:00 tonight.

Do other churches do this? It is a great way to remember what Easter is all about....

We have Stations of The Cross, but not 'living'. Sounds awesome - would love to see that. Happy Easter, by the way!

Yes, we had them for many years until someone not in the church community screamed foul.

From my last understanding, they remain popular overseas and in the holy cities, they are a large draw for pilgrims.

EDIT: I struggled with the regular one every week through school. I found the living Stations very difficult to understand and comprehend. There's more of an enormity when you see people.

The school where I teach performs Living Stations of the Cross. It is so moving, and although I have watched it many times, I still tear up every year. I would highly recommend the experience.

Both of my kids were a part of the living stations of the cross at my church. The first time I saw it I wasn't prepared for the sound of the centurian's whip smacking on the church floor - I could only imagine that hitting Jesus's back. They also did a very good make-up job of a beaten Jesus. It was very powerful.

When my dd participated, it wasn't so much acting, but the teens creating scenes as the stations were read. I put together a slide show of it & the song "Fragrance Prayer" playing. I also gave a copy of the slideshow on cd to every 8th grade parent.

Our church doesn't do it anymore, but I am glad I saw it when we did have it.

The 5th graders do that at school every year. Our twins are in 5th grade and they performed theirs yesterday. DS was Jesus and it was a little unnerving watching your child being Crucified.

Our whole town has a living Stations of the Cross. They close off the main road (U.S. 12) and the procession proceeds a half mile through town to the Catholic Church where all of the church leaders (Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian, and Methodist) give a sermon.

I think we might--but I can't remember. We do stations for all Fridays of Lent--but during Holy Week we do a Living Last Supper (Tuesday) and I do believe that our Life Teen kids do a Living Stations tonight. I am working :(.
