Hi everyone! Last time we were there in December, they had re-routed the entrance to the old exit of the Living Seas. The hydrolators were no longer there and you totally bypassed the film and the old boarding area for the sea cabs. Does anyone know the reason for this, or what is going to be put there? I miss the old Living Seas.....

The entire living seas is behing rehabed to encoperate Nemo ... the first part was done in Thanksgiving the remander will be finished by September

Its likely that the Kathleen Turner-narrated film will no longer be part of this area.

It was fine if you were arriving for the first time (even the first time within a single vacation trip), but waiting to see that LONG film... and waiting in the dark oval ROOM BEFORE the film... and waiting in those curving QUEUES before the dark waiting room... then, after ALL THAT WAITING and film-watching... waiting to "board the hydrolators" and the long WAIT as they "descended".
And let's not forget that there was ALSO... in this same CHAIN of waiting... the "Sea-Cabs".
They wound you around past some of the viewing tank before they let you out at the main Living Seas building ("Sea Base Alpha".)

Many say the "Sea Cabs" will be brought back after the final re-do of this attraction.
And that's OK by me... they were kind of fun... but PLEASE,
no more LONG FILMS and WAITING rooms.

My gosh, THAT TOOK FOREVER!
Heck, I just want to see CRUSH and the Manatees!!

Less waiting? Good deal!

BTW, we've been slipping directly in via the "back door" for years.
Sometimes by hopping into the "exit" Hydrolators, sometimes via the "emergency" doors.
Glad to see that Disney is using that same method (at least temporarily) to speed up the process for all of their guests.

I figured that they were getting rid of the movie... how sad.. I have always loved it.

It IS a good film, but I don't want to "have to" WAIT FOR IT and see it every time I go into LS.

Think of it this way...
Imagine if EVERY TIME you wanted to enter MK, you had to wait in the Train Station area and view the "opening ceremony and countdown" (while those already IN the MK were doing MK "stuff")... every single time of the day you entered the gates. Too much waiting with too many guests for no good reason.

The LS could easily offer the film as an "option".
(Many times, before the rehab, the CM's in the "oval waiting room" offered folks the chance to go directly to the hydrolators, via separate doors, and skip the film, when they were ready to "load" the theater.)

I think the film could just be one of the "things to do" in the LS area, but time will tell.

I agree. It's that whole aspect of learning and science and optimism about the world and the future that was the spirit of epcot for me. There aren't many places in the world where you can come away feeling optimistic about the future.

That's a good idea. I don't know how it would fit into the design of the building, if it would even be possible, but it would be nice to see it retained at the exit of the attraction. Something along the lines of Norway's film. Then, you could stay to see it, or head on out the door.

We have never called The Living Seas by its real name. We always referred to it as "The Deluge". :teeth:

WARNING: SPOILERS about the "old" LS below...

Don't know your experience, but just in case you may not know...

The main floor of LS is ALL ONE LEVEL.
The movie theater, Turtle Talk, even the aformentioned "oval waiting room"... ONE LEVEL. There is a 2nd floor, of course, with escalators and stairs for the upper viewing areas, but the main floor is just that, a "main" floor.

The entrance "hydrolaters" were fully a "mind-game", they did not go ANYWHERE, not up, not down (just the mechanical "effects" and bubbles rolled by the glass and the floor "wiggled").
Same for the Exit Hydrolators. The "new" temporary entrance is right where the exit hydrolators used to be... not so much as an INCLINE in the floor.

So to leave the theater where it always was (to make the film an option) would be no problem at all... Just put up a sign and folks could walk right over.
Whether they WILL DO THIS is quite another question.

One time when I sat through the movie, immediately following this quote a lone voice piped up from the back of the room:

"Whaddya expect! It's Florida!"

:)

i agree that people should have a choice to watch it or not... last time I was there (right before the rehab) people could choose. I, of course, chose the movie. :)

personally I am a big marine science dork. I love it.

The deluge is my fave part ;)

I loved that movie narrated by Kathleen Turner as well. It was quite dramatic. I will say this...some of the pre-shows are just too time consuming at WDW. I think the worse one is for Rock n Roller coaster. Even when there is no wait outside, it still take 20 to 25 mins to get to the ride itself. All of this waiting for a 90 second ride. Whew. While I'm going to miss that film in the Living Seas, I think something a little less time consuming and/or entertaining will do the pavillion some good.

The only thing I do NOT like about this new NEMO rehab is that, typically, EPCOT isn't a character driven park. The original design plans for EPCOT specifically called for very little to NO integration of the Fab 5 into the park. Imagineers rebelled a bit and the hidden Mickey was born because of all this. Now we have a character driven pavillion being created at EPCOT and I think it throws the balance of Future World off. Don't get me wrong, I love Turtle Talk and the new sea cabs with the transparent HD video tech they may use in there sounds reall cool. I just think they need to watch out for throwing the feel of the park off kilter (isn't that a band in Canada : ).

Just my .02 cents.

I think you may have forgotten about a little guy named Figment.
He was a major resident in FW from the beginning.
Although he was nearly "booted" for a couple of (sad) years, his name is now "officially" ON his attraction (still sad compared to the original JII, but better than the "2nd" version).

So that is who narrated the movie. I know I had heard the voice but I just could not place it. I also liked it. The last time we saw it was back in 2003. At that time the movie was like the one in Norway, you could see it or bypass it. It was sad but most people bypassed it. Now it appears to be gone for good, how sad...smjj

This is such good news! When the LS opened, I wrote a letter to the "powers that be" saying that I thought seeing the film every time I wanted to see the fish and the manatees was just too much.

It took a long time to get around to my suggestion! I had gotten just a "thank you for your thoughts" letter and probably a phone call. Perhaps enough people had done the same.

We need to note that nobody on this thread KNOWS for sure that the movie is "gone for good".

The LS pavillion is operating in a "temporary" mode right now.

MUCH of the space in the "people part" of the buliding is still blocked-off and in "heavy-equipment remodel" (I heard jack-hammers the couple of times I was there within the last month.)

After the FULL re-opening later this year, we will all find out just what "stays" what "goes" and what's "new".

As far as I know, that movie is gone and the space is being used for the new "ride". Also, the original sea cabs may not be used, but I am not as sure about that

Figment, however, was created specifically for that pavillion. It's not a character pulled from Disney Animation. Again, the original plans for EPCOT called for little to no integration of the classic characters that we all know and love. I haven't forgotten Figment. In fact, JIT was one of my favorite attracitons at WDW until they completely destroyed it with a nice fat budget restraint upon rehab. Ugh, what a mess that entire pavillion has become. It's simply AWFUL....looks, feels, and even smells cheap. Not very Disney-like. I hope they correct that sometime soon. The theme of the pavillion could really lend itself to some amazing attractions.
