Living full time on a cruise ship

Mama Lee is pretty much living my dream. Living on a cruise ship and dancing all night long!:dance3:

You really need to do it on a ship that has differing itineraries, like the one she is on. Could you imagine being on the Dream? :faint:
I could probably do the Magic. It does Europe at least.

There is a cruise ship called The World (I think) that you actually buy your room/condo on the ship and it sails around the world. You are free to stay as long or as short as you'd like, and some people sublet their space when they aren't using it. I asked how much it was to sublet it for a week or so. The answer was 'if you have to ask, you don't have enough $$'.

I wouldn't even dream of living on a ship that returned to the States on a regular basis. Can you imagine having to disembark/re-board the ship 2 times a week every week for the rest of your life? I'd go nutters.

That is so great! It sounds like a perfect fit for her, and it isn't as expensive as I would have thought.

I know I have read on cruise critic many people who are older that decide to spend a few years cruising. Some pick out the 100+ day cruises and then just switch once or twice a year to another ship or itinerary. I think it would be interesting to at least try a cruise that lasted 1-2 months to see what it was like.

Oh, I love this idea. If DH & I win the lottery, this is what we're doing with our retirement. :)

That would be so awesome! But I would probably get as big as a house. :lmao: I gained a few pounds on the last 5 day cruise. :santa:

I think I'd rather have a stateside beach house and occasional cruises. But more power to her. ❤

Wow...now that's a way to live life! Seems to be working for her and a couple of other women. Nice!

Don't know if I could do cruising full time ... but maybe.

In my head I have been planning a retirement cruise - around the world on cruise ships, riverboats and trains. Hitting both the northern and southern hemispheres. And possibly Antarctica ... but I had to work on DW for years to go to Alaska because its cold ... what are my odds on Antarctica :confused3

Now I need to find a rich relative and make sure that I am IN THE WILL!!!

About 15 years ago I met a woman on the Delta Queen who had lived aboard full time for several years, except when the ship went into drydock.

No idea what she did when the DQ was decommissioned a few years afterward.

I like the idea, but I think I'd pick a ship that had a large number of different itineraries.

I'd just hate doing the muster drill every week or so. Other than that, count me in!

That is amazing, good for her!

She's lived almost 10 years on cruise ships - almost 7 on the current one and 3 on a prior ship. And both sound really nice. She's living the dream!

This is pretty much my dream. I've read about the World, but it doesn't appeal to me. It really is just a floating condo association (no nice restaurants or nightlife onboard). This is what I would want for my retirement.

But you have to own a home onshore in order to buy in. At least you did the last time I checked into it. :)

Cheaper and nicer than a retirement home, though.:cool1:

That is for darned sure. I mean that's the cost for everything. Pretty nice.

This is the wiki answer about The World. Sounds alright to me! Now, where did I leave that extra $1000000 laying around?

The ship has a large living room area (lobby), gourmet deli and grocery store, a boutique and showroom, Fitness Center, billiard room, golf simulator and putting greens, a full-sized tennis court, jogging track, a spa, swimming pool, and cocktail lounges.[1]

There are six restaurants for dining that also supplement the kitchens or kitchenettes in most of the residences and dining ashore.[1] For on-board entertainment there is a movie theater, library and music performances.[1] In addition to destination experiences (shore excursions), classes have been offered on board in topics such as dance, navigation, language, cooking, arts and crafts, music, computers, and photography.[1] The World provides Internet access in each residence.
