sorry to hijack here, but I tried sending a PM and it wouldn't work?
Do you know where I can find these bracelets online?

Hmmm... I can see the problem, but really, if we're all concerned about a particular charity, $5 or whatever the Livestrong bracelets cost is pretty much nothing, right? I say if I like the look of something, buy it, wear it, and give my money (and hopefully a fair amount more than the cost of a bracelet) to charity without worrying about a little trinket in return. (I know, they are supposed to raise "awareness"... I'm not convinced.)

Sound like a great souvie for the kids and their friends.

While I understand the concerns some have, I think making a donation to a charity is reward enough.

For WDW, it's a great money maker and should be very profitable. From a parent's view, it's a easy item to purchase, have the kids wear and to pack. It also makes a cute gift to give to classmates.

Although, I do like the fact that LiveSTRONG (some of the) proceeds go to charity, many others do not and are cashing in on the fad. I can't knock Disney for doing the same.

I am buying - much of them! :flower:

They are cute but I think the $$ should be going to charity, ie Lance Armstrongs original idea. I also liked the original intent to raise awareness in addition to money for the various causes, cancer, breast cancer etc. Around here we have several in various colors but all are for a charitable cause - even the red sox bracelets that are very popular are to support the jimmy fund.

I will have to think twice before purchasing this particular souvineer - or perhaps make a contribution on my own should I decide the girls can have one.

No - biggie but just my .02

I agree. ::yes::

Also, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that all of the funds from Livestrong go to research not just a portion as another poster had mentioned. Not the point of the thread but I just thought I would put it out there.

It's become such a trend anyway. My newphew has 6 different ones and has no idea what he's supporting by wearing them. He just wears them because they are "cool". One of them is just a thick rubber band, actually!!

You know that show I Love The 80's (or 90's) on VH-1? These bracelets are going to show up and be mocked on I Love The 00's I can just tell... they're like Memebers Only jackets with a cause ;)

There are red ones being sold by the American Diabetes Association. I just bought these in youth and adult sizes in support of Diabetes research.

How much are these at the patks ? sorry maybe I missed it if it was posted already. They look really cute. The lime green would be great for the DIS. I have purple for luekemia and a metal one for the National Guard. (NG ones are free in case anyone doesn't know)

My boys, ages 10 and 11, love these type of bracelets. We were at WDW Mar 31-April 9 and we found them at the Pirates of Caribbean gift shop. They were in a bowl by the cash register. They were $2 each and my boys got one of each color (red, black, yellow, green).

One of my son's friends wears a bracelet that says "Jesus is my homie" :earseek: I asked him what that supports or stands for and he just stared at me and said "I don't know, I just thought it was funny" :sad2:

My kids too have a variety of the charitable ones, definitely a fashion statement and a tool parents can use to discuss the charities they represent. Would I prevent them from buying a Mickey one? No. Do I think it would have been nice if Disney could have donated atleast a portion of the profits to a charity (like Make a Wish or something)? Yes.

I can't deny that these are absolutely AdOrAbLe!!!! Having said that....
I have to admit that IMHO I really feel very strongly that although they have become quite a "trend" for kids :cool1: ~ they were originally created and intended to raise money and awareness for several different types of cancers, diabetes etc... My children have several different colors and the four of us religiously wear the yellow "live strong" and the purple "HOPE" bracelets. The purple HOPE bracelets were given to myself, DD, DS and DH as a little gift from my boss when my DH was diagnosed with lymphoma in February. She bought one for each of us as well as for everyone in my office to wear in support of my DH during his treatment :grouphug:
Anyway ~ bla,bla,bla... I guess what I'm saying is, I think Disney, as HUGE as they are, would be doing a WoNdErFuL, MaGiCaL thing if they gave a portion of the proceeds to a charitable contribution ~ I'm disappointed that they didn't choose to do so. Sorry....... NO MICKEY BRACELETS FOR ME! ;)
Please don't misunderstand, I would never judge anyone for buying these bracelets... like I said, they are adorable ;) and yes, great souv. but for me, perhaps I'll give a disney mug with a live strong bracelet inside ::yes::

My soap box...I think sometimes people just need to take a step back...Rubber bracelets have been around forever. It's not like Lance Armstrong invented them and just b/c he came up with a great idea for his charity does not mean others who produce bracelets or tag on to it need to use it they way he did. Just b/c my girls wear pink ribbons does not mean they suport breast cancer and there is a terrible and troubling trend in schools right now with different colour braclets related to the types of sexual acts they perform. Does this mean Disney should be aware of this and not produce a certain colour...of course not.

Sometimes they are what they are...just bracelets.

My assumption is the only cause these are going to is Disney's bank account. But I do think the lime green one would be a great DIS Boards identifier!

That's just too bad, as cute as they are. Since they're $2, it would've been nice if they could donate half the profits to a children's hospital, or an organization to assist terminally ill children with WDW trips.

Oy, please don't bring that up. Its an urban legend that spun out of control. Besides the fact that I have those bracelets, do you know how difficult they are to break? Just me, I tried when I heard that ridiculous rumor. :sad2:

I was just thinking the same thing, urban legend! I remember seeing that story on the news and it was a legend.

Might the DIS shop be able to order a lime green one (with Mickey heads?) with the profits after cost going to Make a Wish? I would love to buy those!!
