Liver and onions

I love the liver but HATE onions. I don't cook it often but when I do, I do not cook it with onions.

I love them. My dad and I will eat them whenever we are in a restaurant that serves them. Heck, the 2 of us will drive out of town just to get a good liver and onion fix!

I guess I am a real oddball because it is a gray area for me. I grew up eating it---I don't hate it but I have never cooked it myself and probably never will.

HATE it. it was one of the few foods Mom wouldn't make us eat when she fixed it.

I worked in a hotel coffee shop type restaurant years ago and served tons of liver and onions. Usually to men of an age to have served in WWII or Korea. Their wives would all tell me "thanks for serving this so I don't have to make it" and they would order something else.

My mom used to make it for the two of us....my dad wished he could eat it however he was anemic growing up so he ate lots of liver then....and would tell us that he was allergic to it.....but I think it was just he couldn't tolerate it anymore.....My DH loves it also....We used to go to a local restaurant and order it.

Absolutely love it!! Has to be cooked "just right" though.. My mom used to cook it until it was like shoe leather and it was horrible.. Then when I married my second husband, he cooked it for me - the right way (needs to be a little pink in the center for it to be super, super soft) - and I have loved it ever since.. On the rare occasion that I go out to dinner, if it's on the menu that's what I get - along with mashed potatoes, of course..:goodvibes

Love it and recently learned to love chicken livers as well.

:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: Nothing like eating an organ that performs many functions INCLUDING filtering toxins out of the body!!!!

Perfectly safe when eaten in moderation.. Many doctors will still tell patients with various health problems to eat liver once a week.. That was actually why my mom started eating it - doctors orders..:thumbsup2

Have never tried liver & onions, although I love a nice seared Fois Gras, so I assume I would like it.

I to used to stare at my dinner plate of liver for hours, but since I became an adult, I LOVE it!! Lots and lots of onions.

Hate it more than anything else I have ever eaten. I sat at the table once for hours as a child. After that my mom would boil me a hot dog when the rest of the family was eating liver, and I ate the hot dog, but I swear that hot dog cooking on the stove right next to the pan of liver just took on the taste of the liver--but fortunately not the texture.

I think the smell is horrid. In the house I used to live in I used to have to drive past a Kings Restaurant on my way home and they had it as the special one night a week--I could smell it driving by. Yuck!!! I refused to eat there on that night.

I cooked liver and onions every day for 2 weeks when my dad was dying of cancer. He had a craving for that and ate it every day for lunch and dinner for two weeks. My sister who came to stay with him during that time couldn't cook it because she hated the smell.
I can't eat it myself but I am so glad I was able to make it for him when he wanted it.
3 months later when I was diagnosed with cancer the only thing I could eat was ramen noodles with egg, and farina. I still thank my son who made it for me every day for almost 6 months.

I hate it. Really, it is the smell more than anything. But, my Mom loves it. She gets it on occasion when we go to our neighborhood diner.
