Is anyone watching this? I hadn't realized Ryan left. I had read a while back that he was commuting back and forth to LA and doing Idol so I guess it makes sense he left. I used to watch Live all the time when I worked a 11-7 shift, I watched before I had to leave for work. When I switched to mornings I stopped watching.

Is it good with her and Mark co-hosting? I never liked when he filled in because it seemed like they always had private jokes and innuendoes between each other and I felt it didn't work well for the audience.

Don't watch that show but always wondered about how many full-time jobs Ryan has. Think he also does some kind of radio show as well. He can be annoying at times on American Idol when he tries to act like one of the stars, but is really just a bit player. Most of those day-time talk shows seems like 2+ hosts sitting around making small talk about nothing. I don't get why they seem popular.

Ryan just left on Friday so this is their first week together.

Couldn‘t tell you if it’s good because I am not watching now.

Well, the personalities of the hosts matter. The irrascible Regis Philbin was always fun to watch back in the day. I never much cared for Kelly, but Regis used to give her the business so that was okay. Ryan is so milquetoast that he's not really worth watching in anything. They need people with some verve.

I am so glad Ryan Seacrest is gone. What an idiot! I much prefer Mark and always enjoy seeing the 2 of them together. I have been watching for years. I’m waiting for the day that Ryan decides to come out of the closet because it is so obvious.

I liked Kelly when she was with Regis. After he left, the show lost its pizazz. For some reason Kelly started rubbing me the wrong way. And after I read she never really thanked Regis or talked to him after he left, it solidified that I was no longer a fan.

However, in the days of Regis when Mark filled in, I would enjoy the two together. I think that is a better fit than Seacrest (but I have always thought Ryan was a phony so there's that! lol)

Apparently initial reviews of the new hostin pair isn't all that great. She doesn't let him finish sentences before interrupting and overall it is just boring. Though I supposed it has been boring for many years.

I always liked Regis. I was never more than an occasional viewer but I stopped watching completely after Kelly came on the scene. I was primed to like her as I watched her on All My Children and was rooting for her to get the job and then she did and proceeded to annoy the hell out of me every time I watched

I always thought highly of Regis. Ryan was ok, but Mark may make a better co-host with Kelly.
She may be a little more pleasant to him than she was to her previous co-hosts. Or not. We shall see.

I stopped watching after Michael Strahan left. I also liked Kelly when she started with Regis but over the years, her personality changed. She’s annoying & just too “real housewives” like for me. She used to seem like a sweet girl next door type but now I get very definite I’m better than you vibes. I never liked Ryan Seacrest either, so once Strahan left, I never watched again. I can’t even understand how that show is still on the air.

For a different view, I like the show. I do like Ryan and give him props for creating something (even though it was the Kardasians) which made him a lot of $$$ and he seems to adore his family. I do like the banter in the first part of the show. I think Mark will be okay. I have to give them props for being married so long in that business.

I like Kelly. She has changed over the years which is normal. She started as Regis’s sidekick and was probably told how to behave. After Regis passed it was her show and she obviously has the pull to just be herself now which I like much better. She must be doing something right to have been on the show 22 years now.

Did you ever read Kelly's book? She goes into the whole relationship with Regis. Honestly Regis seems like a strange dude and, based on her accounts, he acted like he didn't know her off set. She describes the story of not thanking him or whatever it was.

As to the post, I don't watch because it's during my work hours but I sort of like Kelly from the old All My Children Days. I was really bored and out of reading material so picked up her book and it was actually pretty refreshing. I'll have to try to tune in one day to see how her husband is.

No, I didn't read her book. Honestly, no interest. The odd thing to me is that I never really heard about Regis being a jerk, contrary to Kelly. :confused3 IDK, I never personally interacted with either of them, but even if you take the Regis part out after the show became Live with Kelly, her demeanor switched, imho. Felt uppity, I am better than you. That is just my opinion and I know it means squat.

I hope her show continues to be successful, I don't wish any ill will. But I won't be tuning in.

That is kinda the impression I got. She seemed like she expected to walk into the show with Regis on equal footing even though he had already been there 15 years. She complained that his name was larger on the logo. Seemed kinda petty.

I liked Kelly too when she was on All My Children. And I do think she changed once she was on with Regis for a while. And I know people here who've seen her in a restaurant and said how horribly she treated the waitstaff.

I was never a big Regis fan, so I wasn't glamoured by him. So I noticed how befuddled and confused he became over the years, especially near his retirement. He became more like the befuddled Grandpa at the Thanksgiving family gathering. Everyone is at the table talking about something. Suddenly Grandpa chimes in with something nonsensical, and suddenly everyone realizes he has no idea what everyone is talking about. People try to explain it to him, but that only confuses him more, to the point that it's best to NOT explain it anymore. Just pat him on the arm and say, "That's okay, Grandpa. It IS very confusing." Then they change the subject.

Kelly covered a LOT for Regis in the final years. She was always on top of every topic, what every guest was up to. When Grandpa Regis would say something befuddled, she JOKE and make it out to be that HE was the one joking, while explaining to him what he was missing or didn't understand. "Oh Regis, you know Daniel Craig is the new James Bond."

To which Regis would say something like, "NEW James Bond?!? What happened to the old James Bond?!? To which Kelly would crack a joke about how things have moved on, and there they are interviewing Daniel Craig, as he is now playing James Bond in the upcoming movie, (insert title.)

Then of course, Regis would joke, like he knew all along. . . except he really didn't.

It was OBVIOUS he didn't do any preparation about any guests or knew what new project they were doing or why they were there, or what was going on. You could still SEE it in his eyes sometimes how befuddled he was. He RELIED on Kelly to cover for him.

Look at this pic from an article in People Magazine. I didn't even have to search for this one. Does he really look like he knows what is going on?

It must have been exhausting for Kelly in those last years. I don't think she ever got the full credit she deserved back then. Everyone wanted to keep the aura of Regis going and her being his sidekick. But, I felt he should have retired about 3 years earlier than he did. So, on the one hand, I can understand why she never wanted to talk to him again, if HE never properly thanked her for what she did. Whether he just never realized he was so bad or it was vanity, I have to wonder.

Back in an interview with The New York Times published in 2017, Kelly said that, “Regis had a mandate: Absolutely no talking off-camera.”

“He had almost a superstition about it. You save it for the show,” she said about her former Live with Regis and Kelly host wanting to save the conversation for taping. “I’d be like, ‘Good morning,’ and he’d say, ‘Save it for the air!’ ”

Was it a superstition, or was he just getting befuddled and didn't want her talking to him about stuff he just wouldn't get? And why WOULD she want to talk to him after he left the show, if she couldn't talk to him during their off-time when they were doing the show?

However, that could also be why she changed and gained the ego she did. SHE knew she did a lot to keep the show going and Regis looking good. So, if no one else gave her the credit she deserved, she gave it to herself. :snooty: WHY that means she needs to treat others badly, especially those she considers underlings, I don't know. :sad2:

I think it was very telling that when Michael Strahan left the show to do Good Morning America, AND host The $100,000 Pyramid AND do a sports show, NOBODY wanted to tell Kelly. Not Michael, not any exec at ABC. :scared: And they left the timing of his announcement until just before she was set to take her spring vacation - or so they said, when she wouldn't come back to the show for a few weeks, she was supposedly so upset.

I don't watch the show a lot, only when I happen to be at home at that time. (I don't care for what's on the other networks at that time, so it's on by default.) Yet, I noticed that when rumors came out that Ryan Seacrest was possibly tapped to host the afternoon GMA3 show after ABC fired the two co-hosts for having an affair, Kelly became openly passive-aggressively mean and snarky to Ryan. She made it out to be such a joke to be so mean to him.

I don't think Ryan wants to do another 5 day a week show, especially as it's based in NYC. His home is in L.A. and now Italy. But, after the Strahan fiasco, she probably doesn't trust Ryan leaving and not for another ABC show.

I just think he must have been so happy to leave at the end. He's supposed to come back and guest host when Kelly & Mark are on vacation. I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan just happens to be too busy to do it. :rolleyes1 OR he demands mega-bucks to do it.

TMZ has mentioned that Ryan now spends a lot of time in Italy. He makes his own artisan olive oil there and has started entering it into competitions around the world.

When Ryan made his announcement that he was leaving the show, he had mentioned that he was only supposed to stay for 3 years. (So, his contract had an end date. He ended up staying for 6. Much of that was through Covid and how topsy-turvy that all was, Zooming the show from each of their homes. (He was probably able to negotiate quite a salary bump to stay the extra 3 years.)

So with all that money, allowing him to go back & forth to Italy, do AI, plus his own daily podcast and radio show, and doing the ball drop on New Year's Eve, he no longer needs to do Live. Kelly may need him more than he needs her, as she does need a temporary host while her and Mark are on vacation.

As for Mark, I always thought he is a little bit cardboardy. When he met Kelly, he was brought on All My Children to be a supporting character. Kelly was the star then, as she has always been since he knew her. So, he always knew where his bread was buttered and he's had her back. And even though he's her co-host now, he knows his place below her. So, maybe she can stop being so mean.

Haven’t watched the show in years, however, I was always a Regis fan. We are originally from the NYC suburbs of NJ, he was on for a number of years in that area prior to going national. I enjoyed his humor and thought he was excellent with Kathie Lee. I was not a Kathie Lee fan but had heard back then, he did not want to have any talking between them prior to the show. I believe when Kathie Lee announced she was leaving, they had rotating guest hosts to choose the right one, as far as chemistry between them. My pick was Bernadette Peters, oh well. I was not a Kelly fan, although, don’t watch the soaps, so didn’t really know her. I do think that part of his Schlick was to play the one that didn’t know what was happening and let his co-host shine, so to speak.

I did like when Regis’s wife, Joy, co-hosted as a fill in. I am not sure I like the combination of Kelly & Mark though. I haven’t seen them together but it just doesn’t seem like a good fit. I am even less of a Kelly fan than before, her fame has gone to her head, IMO.

The few times I have happened to watch talk shows, I get the impression they are acting out scripted situations among the various hosts to get more to watch. They sometimes pretend to argue with each other, say something very opinionated or act like they don't know what the other people are talking about. Most of that is just an act.
