Live with Kelly and Mark

The few times I have happened to watch talk shows, I get the impression they are acting out scripted situations among the various hosts to get more to watch. They sometimes pretend to argue with each other, say something very opinionated or act like they don't know what the other people are talking about. Most of that is just an act.

They actually do rehearse talk shows - even the interviews. They don't really script them, but usually the guest and host sit down for a "pre-interview" and go over all the questions. The general idea is fleshed out, even if it might change a little during taping.

I liked Kelly when she was with Regis. After he left, the show lost its pizazz. For some reason Kelly started rubbing me the wrong way. And after I read she never really thanked Regis or talked to him after he left, it solidified that I was no longer a fan.

However, in the days of Regis when Mark filled in, I would enjoy the two together. I think that is a better fit than Seacrest (but I have always thought Ryan was a phony so there's that! lol)

I lost it for her with the hissy fit over Michael Strahan. She is a silly side kick to me not the main player there. They need somebody stronger to play off of her/

I have never been a huge fan of talk shows period. My mom used to watch the show occasionally back during the Regis and Kathie Lee days, but I have never been a huge fan. I haven’t seen any shows from the Strahan or Seacrest eras. I just hope that working on the show together doesn’t affect their marriage in a negative way. I imagine the stressors are different now than their days on the soaps.

As far as Regis goes, I will say that my sister and I were in the crowds on Main Street way back when they used to do the Christmas Parade live on Christmas Day, and Regis was one of the hosts. He was working Main Street, and during commercial breaks spent his time chatting with those of us nearby. He could have just turned his back to us and focused on his performance, but he seemed to genuinely want to interact with his audience.

I was thinking that, too. It can't be easy to be together 24/7!

I expect she was sick of the continually changing co-host situation, though. - First Regis, then Michael, then weren't there guest hosts for a while?, then Ryan... - At least his one she knows is in it for the long haul.

I'm not a regular viewer, just catch it sometimes when I'm home, so I've seen it over the years with Regis, Michael, and Ryan, but not with Mark yet. I hope it goes well.

I watch it every morning mostly because it is the lesser evil of all the other morning shows ons. I can take her OK and her and Ryan together were good sometimes. Ryan is just such an insecure person it makes me crazy.

I do not like her and Mark together hosting. I didn't like when he guest hosted and I don't like them now hosting together. They may be fine privately together but their sickeningly sweet hosting persona is awful.

I watched Regis and Kathy Lee and then Regis and Kelly, Regis was why I watched. I watched about 2 years with Michael Strahan and none with Ryan, just not a fan. So out of curiosity I watched the first show with Mark, made it to 13 minutes and thought this is just inane drivel, he seemed uncomfortable and she didn't seem to notice. I remember when Kathy Lee left and many thought Joy should join Regis and he said it wouldn't work because they did the same things and what would they talk about, Kelly should have remembered that.

I do think that part of his Schlick was to play the one that didn’t know what was happening and let his co-host shine, so to speak.

Yes, this is why he was able to get by without people noticing in the last years that he was really "befuddled." In the early years everyone knew it was an act because he'd come out with the zinger questions for the guest that proved he really did do his research and knew quite well what was going on. At the end, he was just confused while Kelly fed him the info on air.

Now that I think of it, that's when Kelly first started being really snarky or rude with her co-host at times. It started with Regis.

He's like that all the time. He just acts awkward and self conscious. He was like that when he first started on All My Children and it is basically him.

This is what the problem is I think. When Mark used to co-host, they would kind of be googley eyed at each other, Kelly would gush about how in love they were, lots of innuendos, inside jokes etc. It just didn't work for me. It was not entertaining at all. From what I have read, lots of people were complaining about that.

I enjoyed the silly banter between her and Ryan. I also liked when Jerry O'Connell would co host. It was just hysterical. I agree with Regis that it just downed work with a couple co hosting.
