Here is the final report for this thread:
Following this post, I will be listing exif date for the photos, so you guys can duplicate them with your own cameras if you have the available options.
Monday: Monday we went to the MGM Studios, with the intentions of watching Fantasmic later that night, and then driving to MK to watch Wishes from the ferry landing before driving home.
We got to MGM and my first hatred about MGM is the parking lot. It is so horribly laid out (in my opinion). Without a tram, it's such a long walk. Well, we take our dog with us, and we've never tried the tram yet with the dog(though we may on our November trip). Because MGM doesn't have a way for you to drive up to the kennel like the TTC does, or closer parking for kennel guests like EPCOT does, we had to walk it. We just so happened to be at the back of the southernmost lot, and had to take a 15 minute walk to the front to the kennels.
On Monday the parks were not crowded but not dead. It was dead enough to have fun though! I immediately went to TOT and saw that the sign said a 20 mins wait. So, I grabbed a FP. However, when I got inside, with my FP, I noticed that the standby line had NO WAIT! So, when I got done, I went back for more! My wife wont go on, so out of respect for her waiting, twice was all I was going to do. However, something to note: I saw a lady at TOT in front of me, down in the boiler room arguing with a CM about which ride this really was. She was with her husband and the lady said to the CM (whow as trying to get people in the elevator) "What happened to the Twilight Zone ride"? The CM said "This is it". The lady responded "No, this is the Tower of Terror". The CM said "it's the same thing". The lady responded, "well, isnt' there a ride before the ride"? The CM says "Just a ride up over and down, that's it" (getting frustrated as all of us behind her were). Finally the lady's husband said "this is it honey". The lady says "not it's not! and I'm not riding it!" and went to the chicken exit. What gives with some people? Her poor husband was very embarassed.
My wife is pretty paranoid about things such as thrill ride, and me riding them. Her dad died of a heart attack at an early age and heart issues run in my family, so though she doesn't like me riding any of them, on this trip she insisted that I not ride RnRc. It pained me not to, but, out of respect for her feelings of worry, I didn't do it. So, it was on to Star Tours! The wait was about 15 mins. As always, it's fun, though you can tell that current technology has nearly passed it by. I think the overall ride is still great but, when the shield comes down, it's obvious that you're watching a screen. I think they could use a good refurb and keep EVERYTHING the same, except simply replace the current screen with a version much like that of Mission Space.
After that, it was on to Muppets! As always, a great show! For some reason, I find the 3D perspective is much deeper than in Philharmagic. I dont know why but it just seems that way. The only REAL thing that gets me into that 3D mood in Philharmagic is when Ariel comes out with her arms towards you. Of course, Philharmagic is a better show but I think the 3D is better in Muppets.
After Muppets, we went to eat at the Sci-Fi Dine in Theatre. Right before we got in, it started to pour! Now, out of my years at WDW and my love affair with dining there, I've never eaten at this place. I just never interested me.
Well, the atmosphere is great! The movies they show are not so great (however, Im not into much sci-fi) and the service wasn't so great either. However, the food was probably the best I've eaten of ANY place at WDW. I got the Shrimp Pasta alfredo. It was incredible! Great value for the money!
After this, we checked on the dog.
Then we went for the 5:45 showing of Beauty and the Beast. This was my first time seeing it. Honestly, this show was not for me. I thought the acting of the "Best" was extremely sub-par. They roaring was just getting lame after a while. Until the very end, I just found this show to be on the very corney end. I dont like Cinderellabration but, I liked it more than this show.
After that, it was on to the Narnia set again. Granted this is a letdown if you expect much, I just enjoy the movie so I enjoyed it again. This attraction is nothing more than a movie advertisement. However, the props at the end are pretty cool. I got some great photos after everyone left. I asked the CM how long the attraction was going to stay. She said she wasn't sure but, at this point it could be until the next Narnia movie was made. I didn't know there was another one being made but she said there is talk of another production.
She mentioned that each summer, decisions are made as whether to keep One Man's Dream and now Narnia. She said that "One Man's Dream" was only supposed to stay for one year, back in 2000, but due to popularity, each summer they have decided to keep it, and one day may keep it permanently (I think they should always keep something like that, dedicated to Walt Disney. In fact, I think something like that is suited best for the Magic Kingdom).
After this, it was STILL raining. We realized that it may no stop for a while (now 7:30) so we left.
Next trip I'll get all of the photos I didnt get on this one, and more!
My final thoughts are this:
1) While we normally go to WDW when it's crowded, there's NOTHING like going when it's dead. I likely will plan most of my 5-10 trips a year during slower times. I just can't see myself waiting in lines all day when I could do what I did on this trip.
2) Disney security checks need to be more thorough and more consisent. I personally dont mind heavy searching since I like being safe. However, we had one security officer not even really look in our bags, and another really go through them. Because of this, we assumed, one was either not doing their job correctly, or the other was being excessive. It needs to be consistent. While I wont say too much, so as not to get flamed, we saw some concerning issues of security not checking certain people well enough. It wasn't a big big issue but was something that raised a very serious eyebrow.
3) Disney needs to figure out something to help get people out of the MK at night after closing. One night a monorail broke down, so that's fine. However, every night, even on slow nights, it takes forever to get out of the MK if you are not at the station after closing.
4) The castle is starting to look like it's old self again, and to be honest, it's very refreshing!
5) The new finger scanners at the MK and MGM (soon to be at Epot) are very nice. They dont require rescanning or finger adjustments, so the process is quicker.
6) So you're Disney. You're already making boo-koos of money. Why are they doing the "county-fair" type of thing and selling glow necklaces and light swords at the TTC before you get on the monorail? Im find with it in the parks but, outside of the parks just looks "cheapish".
7) On this trip, I found the restrooms in the Mk in many areas to be less than clean. The parks were not that busy, so I don't know what's going on here. I dont expect to be able to eat off of the floors but, the smell? My dad wasn't there!
Anyways, it was a great trip, and I was ready to come home, though not back to work. I dont relax on my Disney trips and generally wear myself out, and because we go back often, I honestly was ready to go.
When i started this thread, I expect a couple of people to follow along. Not 17 plus pages of responses and 20,000 views. I just want to thank everyone for your nice comments. I hope you all enjoyed the trip report. Next time (november/december) I will be doing this again, and may even add something special to make it even MORE immersive for you all following along.
Thanks to everyone who has told me to tell my wife thank you for allowing me to do this. I just want to say this about my wife. I got a good one! My wife has A LOT of patience. First off, Im like a big kid. I literally skip through the park people! I sing songs as I do so! She is embarassed about 90% of the time there. Then, I make her stop every 5 minutes to wait on me to take pictures. She is the most patient woman I know! Because I know she doesn't post on here but does read the posts, I just want to say "Thank You!".
Walt Disney World is VERY special to my wife and I. We actually met there for the first time in early 2002. I was there with a friend on Spring Break and she was too. We met there, while watching fireworks (at the time Fantsy in the Sky) on one of the circle planters with seating over in front of the Adventureland sign (just over the Crystal Palace Bridge). We spent the entire week there and hung out with her and her friend every day. I met her on my first night there and we made plans and spent nearly every moment together on the trip. Each morning we'd go to eat breakfast at IHOP and then go to the parks together (with my friend and her friend). We just hit it off. We actually had our very first kiss at WDW. I was from NC and she was from SW Fla. When the trip was ending and we parted, she actually cried. My first thought was WHAT IS HAPPENING HERE!?! Im an only child, so I figured this is the end, because I'm not moving away from where my parents live. Well 1 month later, I was missing her badly, so I flew down to see her. I met her family and we all got along great. 1 month after that, she flew up to see me! My family fell in love with her! Well, I fell in love on that trip that she made up. The rest is history. I had a nice talk with my parents who gave me 100% support, and I moved to Naples, Fl. I packed up the car, quit my job and college, she cancelled her return flight and we drove to Naples, Fl. That's right, I moved! I got a place to live (I didn't want to live with her without being married), re-enrolled in college and began work. This was June of 2002. In September of 2001 we got engaged, we were married in March of 2003. I normally never believed in moving so fast but, we just knew it was right. Because we met at Disney, we went for a 2 week honeymoon at WDW Caribbean Beach Resort. Now, after 3 years (4 years before we know it!) we are more happily married than we've ever been. Along with meeting at WDW, and spending our honeymoon there, we've spent each of our 3 anniversaries there.
So, as you can see, WDW has a special place in our heart, and along with those of you who said it, I want to thank my wife for being so great on these trips!
Thanks again everyone!
