Live trip report from the DLH

Our daytime view is basically looking down at the front entrance of the hotel with the parking lot beyond the flagpoles and the Mickey and Friends parking structure beyond that. To the left is roof parking. To the right I can see them building Star Wars Land and then the Matterhorn. The fireworks we could see were mostly those coming from Toontown although you could see a bit of those that were set off over on Main Street too. It's not a bad view as there are a lot of trees.
It is all about the persons perspective. There are 14 floors, yes, if you are on floor 2, view isn't as great as it is a couple floors higher. Personally, I'd ask for highest floor available rather than Adventure Tower.
Thank you both for your feedback! Still trying to decide what to request. Not that it matters. Last time I requested a high floor I was on floor 3 of PPH. I think I probably would prefer Fantasy, but I also think my daughter is hoping for a view of Earl of Sandwich. Don't ask.

Love your report. We are staying at DLH for the first time next month. I am so excited.

For what it's worth I requested something quiet and large enough to comfortably have the pack n play set up.

Today was checkout day.

Woke up at 5:30am (thank you time change!). My son woke around 6:45. I had already packed up most of our stuff the night before so we go dressed, had a bite to eat in the room and called the bell desk to grab our stuff so we could head over to extra magic hours (or whatever it's called) at DL. HAD to stop for a huge coffee at Starbucks (thank you time change) so we walked into the park about 8:05. This was my first early morning ever at DL and I was so looking forward to it. Well.... it was a total bust! So insanely crowded that we couldn't even get on Dumbo, which was a 20-minute wait already at 8:15. Soooooooo bummed. It was truly a madhouse. I know early mornings can sometimes be low crowds (I've experienced it my myself a number of times, once even on a magic morning day that was just dead when I arrived at rope drop) but there was nothing magical about this morning unfortunately!

Wandered around a while trying to find something to ride but the lines were all so long already so we just left Fantasyland without riding anything. Grabbed a buzz light year fast pass (with a return 30 minutes later) and rode the Astro Orbitors, which my little guy likes almost as much as Dumbo (I do not but this is all about him).

By this time it was actually 9:00am. Watched them drop the rope and witnessed people running like they were running with the bulls in Pamplona. Wow. Is this really what people do? DL was super packed today. I was surprised it was so busy especially considering the holidays don't start until Friday (although quite honestly no one got that memo because it looks like nearly everything is up including the tree and they were even playing Christmas music on main street and in Toontown too, and even sleighbells on one of the horses on Main Street).

Anyhoo, we went to New Orleans, pirates and HM we crazy with the aforementioned rope drop runners so we kept going to Winnie the Pooh, which I think we were the first riders of the day and rode it twice. Leisurely walked back the way we came and HM had gotten under control so we jumped into the line that was now a walk on.

Went back to Tomorrowland and used our Buzz FP, then hit Toontown for Roger Rabbit. At this point my parents showed up so I took their tickets, ran and grabbed HM FPs for us all and then we rode the train, which we picked up in Tomorrowland and had no wait at all even though there were already long waits at all the other stations. You would seriously not be able to find the Tomorrowland station if you weren't specifically looking for it... you don't just happen upon it. I wonder if this is why the waits are always shorter here.

After the train we had lunch at Rancho Del Zocalo, where we had cheese enchiladas, carne asada and shrimp tacos. The enchiladas and shrimp tacos were very spicy! We like it but I'm kind fon surprised at how much heat there is for a theme park. Anyway, we very much enjoyed our meals and it was pleasant to sit in the shade and watch BTMRR going by.

After lunch we used our HM fastpasses, then visited the wishing well over by Snow White's grotto. I was so disappointed that the well didn't sing when I threw pennies in because I thought my son would get a kick out of that. Does anyone know, doesn't the well no longer sing or is it broken?

After this we rode the sailimg ship Columbia, which neither I nor my son had never been on. Very fun and I like all the things on the ship for kids to play with and explore. By this time it was about 2:30 and we wanted ice cream so we all got waffle cones at the ice cream parlor on Main Street and my son got scoop of thin mint. We sat on the benches over near first aid (by the corn dog cart) and it was so nice and quiet over there in the shade.

We left the park and went back to the DLH where I had picked up a pool key when we left that morning. Changed into our bathing suits and went swimming one last time before getting our bags and heading home. We left the hotel around 4:45 and it was not easy. I was so tempted to stay for one more meal at Trader Sam's and maybe a Dole whip rum float, but common sense took over and I brought my little one home so he could go to bed early.

We has the most wonderful stay at the DLH. I'll never forget it! I hope to come back in a few years for another stay!

Forgot to mention that I stoped in the Candy Palace on our way out for another s'mores square to bring home and they were out

I don’t bother with the Magic morning even when it’s on our ticket. It’s always like you describe. Maybe if it was a 7 am mm. But now that we have toddlers we’ll be rolling out like all the other families at 10 am. Hahaha!

Glad you have a fun trip. Good job adulting and getting him to bed on time!

I’ve been in all the towers and I still much prefer the Adventure Tower. Mainly for easy access into DtD. After walking through DtD, the additional walk to Fantasy was annoying as was Frontier TBH. I know, I know, I probably sound obnoxious. But Adventure felt so close!

DCA was worth it but DL was not!

Maybe because I haven't stayed in Adventure but Fantasy felt very close and easy. Frontier looked far!

So true! I've said it time and time again - early entry should only be for hotel guests. IF, and only IF, they want to keep offering it to 3 day ticket holders, they need to open up the entire park and not just FL and TL.

If I ever stay onsite again I will not be doing DL early entry. DCA, yes. But it was almost not worth being there for that hour. Would have been better to arrive for rope drop at 9:00 and head straight to Haunted Mansion or Pirates (NOT running though, ha ha).

Glad you had a great trip!

Snow White's wishing well sings on a timer.

I've had a theory for awhile that Tuesday MMs are the worst and Saturdays are the best. We rope-dropped on Saturday and the park was dead even after a MM. Like, super dead. I took pictures of us walking up to empty security, deserted turnstiles, etc., because people keep saying they don't believe that; I'll post the Alice one that I screenshot so it's timestamped so people can see it's 8:05, 5 minutes after rope drop and 75 minutes after MM started. Obviously a 7am MM vs an 8am MM plays a part in that, but I've noticed this trend for awhile now.

I have a friend who is at Disneyland 4-5 days a week, and she won't go on Tuesdays because "it's always so weirdly crowded in the mornings."

That is very interesting. I never go on Tuesdays because my son has preschool that day. We just happened to be there this time. I most prefer Wednesdays but even a few Thursdays I have been surprised how "uncrowded" DL is, especially considering it's a Magic Morning.

So when does the well sing? Many years ago the well would sing if you dropped a penny in. I really loved that!

That’s probably why DCA feels so open!

At the very least they could make sure all the rides are operational at mm opening. Haha!

Thank you for your report! We will be staying at DLH for the first time on November 30th! Your report was the most helpful I have seen thus far!

There is a large variety of reasons rides could be still down at opening. I'd rather have them be sure they are safe. BTMM is a big one for being late, usually safety issues.

I agree they should be safe. Do they need to get their employees there a half hour earlier to start the process?

Awwwww, thank you! :o I really had the most magical time at the DLH and I'm happy my trip report might be able to help people!

Happy to hear about your :yay: FUN :yay: trip to DL. We go to relax and forget the real world for a few days at a time. Hurry back! :hyper2:

I had a question for you as I am not finding the info online. I've heard that DLH doesn't have refrigeration or microwaves in their rooms. Do they have coffee makers and if so, what kind? TIA
