I am so excited! I am 10 minutes from walking out the door to head to the airport!

Cast Members-
Marshmallow - 51 - Disney Fan what am!
DH - 52 - Disneyland Steam Train Engineer
DD - 28 - Disney fan - worked her way through college working Honey I shrunk the audience
DSIL - 28 - Loves my DD - tolerates us and our Disney fandom
We are spending the first night at CSR then transferring to SSR. Our first time at home.

We flew Delta to Orlando with and overlay in Atlanta. We had a small discussion about the claim to have been somewhere if you had only been in the terminal.

Upon arrival at MCO we delayed our journey when DH saw the Nathan's stand. He recently discoverd the Nathan hot dogs in the grocery store and they almost replace the beloved Dodger Dog. We had to try the authentic dog. It was delicious.

Magical Express check-in was busy but not horrible at all. DD was gushing over the cute cruise line busses when low and behold that was the bus we got to ride. Let me say now our biggest enjoyment is watching the small children and their excitement.

We checked in at CSR, hiked to the room in the wrong pair of shoes, and were delighted by the lovely queen size beds.

After we freshened up a bit we hopped a but to the Magic Kingdom and used the monorail to go to the Polynesian.

We were seated at a window table and within minutes were watching wishes. So beautiful! A perfect start.

DD and I ordered the Lapu Lapu. (I think that is the spelling) Wow, what is in those? Is it straight rum in a pineapple! I am such a light weight when it comes to alcohol. 1/2 a glass of wine makes me very relaxed. The food was tasty. I am not a huge meat eater so this is a good place for me if I don't want to over indulge. The dessert was delicious but I have to say I miss the pineapple and the green beans. DH is a major carnivore and loves Ohana. It is our first night tradition now.

We rode the monrail back to the Magic Kingdom and took the bus back to CSR. DH and I collasped in bed. The yunguns went to Rix lounge for a margarita. Their review nice decor, horrible overpiced margarita. DD is still looking for a good one here.

All in all it was a good day but I was glad for the new mattress at CSR. I was in dreamland.

We don't count an airport unless you actually breathe the outside air. We have "been" to Minnesota because we made sure that as we were crossing from the jetway onto the plane that we all consciously breathed some of the outside air at the Minneapolis airport. Personally I prefer to only count it if you set foot on the ground, but DH wants to claim airports, so we compromised and said you have to breathe the outside air :)

Have a great stay at SSR! Hopefully the crowds will be low this week.

We were rather worn out and slept in till 8 am. DH and I showered and packed. We woke up DD and DSIL at 9 am. I called the bell services and arranged a luggage pickup at 10:10 am. On the dot the bell man was there, took our luggage and gave us a ride to the front. We decided to try Pepper Market for breakfast. Never again! DH and DD are huge salt fiends and even the bacon was too salty. It must have been canned. The biscuits even tasted too salty.

We took the bus to Epcot and after our photopass stop entered spaceship earth. This was our first time since the changes. We really enjoyed the differences and improvements. DD emailed their picture to themselves. About this time my DH realised that he was going to need some help. A year ago he was on way home from work on his motorcycle when he got caught up in an accident started by a drunk driver. We are lucky he can walk much less is back to work. It was wheelchair time. He can walk but after a bit his ankle swells and he has no endurance.

Mission Space was next on the agenda. On our way their we checked Test Track and found it was down. While waiting in the orange side room before the briefing tape DD started talking about how this reminded her of a really awful movie she saw recently about a mission to mars....uhhh was Gary Siniese in it? " Yes, I love Gary Siniese but this was an awful movie" then the video started.... it is still a spectacular ride.

Club cool was fun and of course we tricked her into Beverly....then DH calls over a young man from China and gets him to try Beverly....the young man liked it. We then got into a conversation with him about the different sodas. The watermelon flavored one was much missed by our new friend. He is a cast member out celebrating Chinese new year with friends. We tired the various sodas together and then wished each other happy new year. The sugar had it's effect though. I cannot handle sugar in a liquid form and DH was strongly affected too. We sent the kids to Nemo and the seas and waited in the shade. I bought some water, fruit and chips and it helped us feel better. The land was visited just for the "living with the land". We have been on Soarin over California enough and were about ready to go to SSR for checkin. The long day previously had caught up with us. DD wanted nothing to do with HISTA, she can still recite the whole pre-show and show in her sleep.

Our plan was to stop for some fish n chips then use the international gateway boats for a ride to Hollywood studios to catch a bus to SSR. Well that was until we sat on the patio and DD saw the beautiful view of all the countries exhibitions. It's funny what fish and Boddington's can do for you.

DD had really wanted to eat in Germany so I call for an ADR.

I finally got DH to see Impressions of France. He loved it. I had to try the eclairs and see if they were as good as those we had in Paris. They were delicious and the best we have had in the US since we were in France but still not the same.

However DD and I LOVED the Orange Grand Marinier slush drink. I had never noticed them until the Disboards and Samantha Brown. Thank you!

We mosied down to Germany, visiting our favorite ornament shop. DH and I have collected blown glass ornaments for over 30 years and there are always some nice additions to our collection from this shop. Boy I was tired. DD went to see if we could get into Octoberfest earlier , saw the price and decided she was not $30 worth of hungry. We had brats ,kraut, pretzels and strudel from the counter service instead. Delicious and she was satisfied. The kids were sent on their way to explore while DH and I looked for some sort of warm clothing in Germany as we were not planning to stay this late. Many had mentioned on the boards about the great views from Germany for illuminations. DH and I placed ourselves on a bench in front of the water to wait. It was about 7:30 and I was cold. DD and DSIL brought me a sarape type blanket from the outpost. It helped alot. By 9 pm it became obvious the parks were not very crowded. There were maybe 10 people including children around us for the viewing. Maybe 20 joined DD and DSIL on the little jetty in front of Germany. It is still such a beautiful and impressive show.
We decided to continue with our original plan and headed for the international gateway. I was surprised to see maybe 7 in line for the boats by the time we were there.

The boat ride was lovely and relaxing. It was not a far walk for DH from the dock to the SSR bus waiting area at Hollywood studios and we did not have to wait terribly long for a bus.

No amount of prepartion, map perusal or google earth on SSr could prepare me fo how large this resort is. Wow. We got off at the Springs and walked up to the carriage house. I cannot say enough about the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff. Our water shipment had arrived from Costco (thank you Disboard members) and our luggage had arrived from CSR. Our bellman transported us , luggage and water to our unit in Congress Park(as I requested). I was very grateful and tipped him a 20. This is our first visit here and I can say the unit is wonderful and very clean. DD is very impressed. I had them check the pullout because of stories I had read. Everything is clean and the groceries were in place. There were some items missing, after a phone call the missing items were brought over this morning.

The King mattress is very nice.. DH and I are shopping to replace our mattress hence our focus on the topic.

I set up my laptop on the desk next to the bed. It is a perfect situation for me. I have a nice view of DTD and water from both windows.

All in all while I plan to try and see all the DVC resorts while I am here I really loved the atmosphere here at SSR. I am glad we are owners.

Sounds like a great trip thus far!

Thanks for the trip report. Glad to hear the beds are so comfy at SSR...we are going there for the first time in May. One quick question though...how big are the safes? I think I read somewhere that they are laptop size, but I have a 17" laptop...larger than normal size, as I think standard size is 15". Anyway, could you tell me if you get a chance what size the safes are? Thanks so much and enjoy the rest of your trip:thumbsup2

First let me say I'm glad you are all having a good time. We were there just a week and a half ago and I already miss it so much, your TR is giving me a chance to relive it:cool1:

I want to comment about the mattress! DH and I were there in April 08. We spent one night in a one bedroom at AKV, 3 nights in BWV, 1 night in HH, 1 night at the Charleston Place (we drove). We were thinking, at the time, that we were due for a new mattress. After sleeping on the mattress in AKV and BWV, we knew what we wanted;) . So we looked! They were Sealy's. I don't remember the exact name, though I wrote it down somewhere. Anyway, once we got home, we went into Sleepys with the name of the mattress. The salesman said it was the prior year's "model", showed us the current year's model. We went one step above and bought the top of the line Sealy's! Boy am I happy! I just had to mention that because we set out on a quest to find a new mattress after sleeping on the mattresses in AKV and BWV too, and wound up with a wonderful mattress! It's like sleeping on a cloud:angel:

Anyway, enjoy your trip, I look forward to the rest of your TR...

Frankly by Monday morning I was wiped out. I had started the trip exhausted and fully planned to spend a good amount of time relaxing at the resort. This was the day DD wanted to go to the Magic Kingdom as the extra hours in the evening would allow them plenty of time. This may sound blasphemous but MK is not a big thrill for me.... except for the steam trains ( I am obliged to say that ;) ) I am more comfortable with Disneyland. Granted the CRT is a fabulous experiance, I love the Hall of Presidents and I miss CoP, this park is just too big. DH and I planned to just get in the park ride the train a few times and head back to the resort. That was until DH found a fellow engineer and spent a good hour talking and sharing stories. I discovered the lovely rocking chairs in front of the camera store... my idea of heaven. I adore the porch on main street in Disneyland where you can relax and people watch. The weather was heavenly and I decided to endulge in some ice cream. I meant to say ice cream sandwich and instead said ice cream bar. OMG! What have I been doing all my life! I had never tried these! Talk about heaven on a stick! I am not a dark chocolate fan but this was so decadent and the ice cream was so smooth and creamy. I told another guest about the experiance when we were talking about her use of the DDP. She had one credit for a nack left and decided to get one.... as she left she told me she was diabetic but it wasn't that bad. Now I feel a bit guilty hoping I did not contribute to a health issue. I watched the parade from the porch. I was impressed by the quality of the dancers. DH finished his converasation and after a couple of laps on the train decided to join me on the porch. I told him about the ice cream bar... he usually chooses that at Disneyland. I wanted him to try this one and compare and contrast....are the ones in So Cal just as good? He bought a bar , ate it and did not see what I was so excited about. Men, they just don't understand these subtleties do they?:rolleyes2

He and I headed back to SSR for some R&R. DD and DH joined us at about 7 pm. They had seen what they wanted and were tired also.

The wonderful disboard members had recommended Giordano's for pizza delivery. Can I say that it was the best pizza I have ever had? :cheer2: DD was excited when it arrived. She ate at Giordano's every day on a college trip to Chicago. The crust was perfect, the sauce had a nice tang to it and the cheese went on forever! THANK YOU to all who recommended this.

We had a lovely evening of pizza, wine and the DTD view.

I'm staying at SSR right now as well (in Congress Park, as well, just like the OP :) ), and my 17" laptop will NOT fit in the safe. I don't have anything here to measure the safe with, but my MacBook Pro will definitely not fit.

Animal Kingdom was beautiful. I am always impressed with how wonderfully the theming is carried in this park. It is a feast for the eyes. The kids gathered up Fast passes for EE but said if we had gone with them there was only a five minute wait at the time. We arrived at AK at about 10:30 am. We took the safari and had a wonderful ride with a very enthusiatic family. The oohs and aah's really enhanced the experiance. There was a good amount of activity from the animals. Conservation station was the next stop then it was time for our 1:30 reservations for Tusker House. I love the food at Boma and this was a close as I was going to get to it for this trip. I learned something about DD though. She does not like spices and filled her plate from the children's section. We made reservations for the Nemo reserved seating. As soon as we finished eating it was time to go to the show. We found that we would not have needed the package as the seating availability was plentiful. The show was delightful and there are some points of vocal harmony that are so precise that I suspect some singing to a tape. In fact at one point there were two sword fighting fish/men , a line was said but neither one moved their lips.

I chickened out on EE but the others loved it.

The trek to the tigers was a must for me. This is my favorite section in all of WDW. It is so incredibly beautiful , I could stay there for hours.

It was park closing time so we walked slowly out of the AK. There is so much we did not see.

We headed home to SSR for another relaxed evening.
