Live from WDW, its the Nicki and Todd show..and RAIN!!!!

Thanks Nicki! I'm really excited about trying the GFC. Thanks for introducing us to it!

Hope you love it like we did!

Nicki your meals for your next trip look great! We are going to some of the same ones in April so I can not wait to read about them!

Awesome! We have the same tastes huh!

YAY! Thanks for the review. I think it was your last review that prompted us to add a whole extra day to our trip just so we could eat breakfast at Boma and dinner at Ohana. We're going to be there the same time in October. Have a great trip!

Cool, you too! Maybe we will run into each other!

i love your trip report!!!
I am wondering, When did you fax in your room request to the Poly? How far in advance? Thanks a bunch Angela

Thanks! I faxed our request on Monday and we checked in on Friday at noon.

just wanted to say thanks again!:thumbsup2

We are on the DDP in October but i'm now thinking of paying oop for one of our TS so i can squeeze in GFC! Look what you've done to me!:rotfl:

It is counted as one TS isn't it?

And is it as upmarket as CG or YS as i'd be a bit worried about taking my littleones there?

Thanks

You will not be sorry! GFC is awesome and there was kids of all ages when we went. A nice family from England with 2 boys on one side of us, the other side had 3 kids an there was a huge party of 20 against the far wall and they had kids too. Not a stuffy place at all!

You are very talented both your writing and photos are very good. And you are very generous to take the time to share all this valuable info with your fellow DISers.

Thank you!
:thanks:

Thank you so much! I hope it helps you out some, I know I have learned a ton of great stuff from the Dis!

On a side note, did you get flooded from all the rain last week?

Nicki ... we miss each other in October, is that right? Jay and I are scheduled to arrive 10/8 and come home to Stinktown on 10/17. No chance for a meet and drink? :goodvibes

No we miss each other...we are coming in late on 10/17 and leaving on 10/26. I am so bummed because Todd and I would love to have a drink with you and Jay!

How about 2009? We will be there Oct 16 to Oct 25th.

Booyah! Our 2009 dates will be 10/16 - 10/24 (leaving on the 24th for a cruise). :cool1:

There may be a lot of DIS-foodies down at WDW next October so it may be good times indeed! :goodvibes

Perfect! We need to plan a get together dinner or drinks or something!

Ok you guys, I found it, an amazing restaurant that is little discussed so maybe not too many people know about it but you all should try it....GRAND FLORIDIAN CAFE! DH and I loved it so much that he wants me to change my Oct dining plans around (yes again) and add it in somewhere.

If it wasnt for the rain DH and I would not have gone back to the room early, giving up our Marrakesh and searching for something else and GFC was it. We arrived at 6:40 and were seated right away (btw it was still pouring out when we left the Poly).

We were seated by the windows in the front section of the restaurant, I would say the place was half full and they were taking walk ups. We had a fantastic host that explained in great detail the menu, he was very helpful.

We decided to start with the Blue Glowtini. It was strong and delish and warm so I had to add ice to it, tasted much better after that.

Our server, Simon from the UK, was amazing, he was so attentive and informative and just a great guy. He was quick to bring out whole grain mini loaves and sourdough rolls. They came with butter topped with a vanilla lime salt. The butter was TDF, to die for, DH loved the sourdough rolls and I had half a whole grain loaf with red currants in it....the loaf is a heavy bread so I didnt want to fill up on that.

DH ordered a caesar salad, we shared it and it was fantastic. Light and super flavorful and the greens were so fresh.

DisneyJune08048-2.jpg

I ordered the shrimp penne with prosiutto and green onions and a ton of parm cheese. This was amazing, better than the shrimp pasta dish from Spoodles I had in June and I loved that dish. There was a ton of shrimp, the sauce was light and the pasta was cooked perfectly, just enough cheese to make you giddy. DH ate some too and he loved it and he really isnt too keen on a cream sauce pasta.

DH had a tough time deciding between the pork chop or the NY strip, he literally flipped a coin and heads was the NY strip so that is what he got. It came with mashed potatoes, fresh string beans, red wine sauce and a pat of blue cheese butter. He likes his meat medium well (I like mine med to med rare) and they did a fantastic job cooking it to his liking. The food runner forgot a steak knife and our waiter was busy so DH cut it with the butter knife and it ran right through the steak no problem. This steak was so tender and flavorful even I loved it! The blue cheese butter pat did not stay on long, it melted right into the steak and omigod it was soooo good. The red wind sauce was also fantastic, it was a thicker style so it really clung to the steak well, DH asked for it on the side and not smothered on the steak.

DH licked his plate clean, I finished all but 1/4 of mine and then Simon came over to explain desserts. He brought out this sampler that was used to describe some desserts and DH said can we order that? I looked at him and said all 4? He cocked and eyebrow at me and said, What better to order to use on the Dis report? Do I have the boy trained or what?

On the lower left side is the lemon cheesecake with raspberry coulis, omigod this is so light and flavorful and fantastic and DH's favorite. On the lower right is the tiramisu with white and chocolate cream on the plate and chocolate covered espresso beans and white and chocolate spirals on the top, this was my favorite and so light and creamy and wonderful.

On the upper left is the chocolate hazelnut mousse cake with crushed hazelnuts, this was DH second fav. It was very chocolate-y and rich but still light and creamy. On the upper right is the key lime with chocolate crust and burnt (like a brulee not tasting burnt) brown sugar topping with a passion fruit coulis on the side. This was my second fav, it was tart and smooth and creamy and it lit up my tastebuds with the sharp lime taste and the rich chocolate finish.

There was a few fruit accents as well.

I am so glad that we tried this place...now DH is so excited to try all new places, we always seem to find a new jewel!

Here is the menu, again sorry for the glare, even with the flash off it keeps glaring off the glass and the bright lights.

During dinner there was a woman being wheeled out on a strecher by the pool area. The waiter said she came in from the rain, slipped on the tile and whacked her head really bad on the hard floor. I have been wearing flip flops the entire time (I dont do close toed shoes or heaven forbid sneakers) and I have been slipping and sliding all over the place....if DH wasnt holding my hand I would have gone down a lot of times. I hope that lady is ok and for everyone that is wearing slippy shoes in the rain please be careful.

I know shame on me for quoting you're whole GFC report - but that glowtini ...

I googled, and found a recipe!!
Ingredients
1 ounce Skyy Citrus Vodka

0.5 ounce Bols Blue Curacao

0.5 ounce Bols Peach Schnapps

1 ounce Sweet & Sour

0.5 ounce Pineapple Juice

1 each Blue Glow Cube (optional)

Prep:

Build in martini shaker with ice, shake, strain, and pour into glass with sugared rim. Add cube.

(this just might make the list of special drinks for DS wedding - the "something blue" drink!! I just wonder how they keep it blue, yellow pineapple and sour mix + blue - green! I'll keep trying to tweak the formula!! ;) gotta luv wdw

Thanks Niki)

Thanks Sandy, I am going to try and make it at home this weekend! Maybe it will magically transport me back to WDW :goodvibes

Thank you! I cannot wait to go in Oct and take more pics for you guys! When I re-read my posts I drool at the pictures too!

Thanks for leading me to this from the Boma question I had. My dd9 absolutely loves Chocolate Chip muffins. I will just have to keep her away from the items with banana as she is allergic.

Ooh I can not wait to try that drink either! By the way Nicki, did you try the pink fizzy stuff? MAybe I missed that part.

Awesome report!!!!!! I loved it! When are you going in Oct? were going from the 1-8!

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your reviews and to let you know that your photos and reports inspired many of our ressies last week (August 16-23). We were on the Deluxe plan and had sit downs booked for almost every meal and then WHAM! DS(10) had a stomach bug and didn't want to be around food or restaurants. I did enjoy Boma and Kona breakfasts with DS(7), but missed the other two in our crew. The whole family ate at Crystal Palace Lunch, Coral Reef (dinner and lunch), Cape May breakfast, 50s PTC, Sunshine Seasons, Cap'n Jacks, Earl of Sandwich, Casey's, Chef Mickeys and we ended our trip with a FABULOUS dinner at Kona. Had to cancel Tony's, H&V and Cape May Seafood Buffet. On Thursday, in the rain, when we finished at HS, I took the boat to EPCOT, got takeout from Japan and Morocco and brought that back to my family at resort by bus. Almost a 2 hour trip, but it sure beat the food court.
Thanks again for sharing your exploits!
