Live from WDW for 9 days, the Nicki and Todd dining review with a ton of PICS!!!!

No potatoes anymore just the noodles but they are very good..we put some peanut sauce on them and they were even better!

Sounds like everything was better with the peanut sauce :rotfl:

That Sunken Treasure sounds really good:drinking1

Absolutely loving your reviews and so are my kids now :cool1: DD14 --who doesn't like to get up in the morning and is not a breakfast girl-- is now ready to go to Boma for breakfast :goodvibes DS11 loves breakfast buffets and was drooling over your descriptions & pics :thumbsup2

Have a great day!

Wow! Those 'Ohana pics are great. You have convinced me that I am going to love it.:thumbsup2
Thanks!!!

Your reviews are great... I love the Biergarten pics... I so want to go there.. All there food seems EXACTLY what my gradmother made every time I went to her house to eat (was was born and lived in Germany for 50 years before coming to the US)... Keep up the good work

Wow your reviews are outstanding some of the best I have seen on DIS. Your pictures are so great and you are making me drool!

Wow those pot stickers look so yummy. We were there in August and what they had then (stale chip like thingies) were pretty much horrible. The beef with the butter sauce looks so juicy too. We didn't have butter sauce on ours. The shrimp look super too. I'm glad those tasteless sausages are gone. But I am so happy to see the bread pudding is still there.

The breakfast at Boma's looks wonderful! We are going to have to have breakfast there one day! :)

Once again thank you! This thread is awesome. Have a great time!

Thank you so much for all of the wonderful reviews!!! I look forward each day to see where you have been!
I have to ask what camera do you have? I can never get pictures as good as yours.
Thank you again!

Hello again everyone! Very rainy and windy here tonight and we just got in from Epcot. This morning we drove to the Poly for breakfast at Kona, one of our favorite spots. When we arrived around 8 the upstairs lobby was super busy, mostly for Ohana...lots of little kiddos hanging around.

Of course we had to get the pressed pot coffee. I prefer the one at Kona to the one at Boma, not as strong but still gets the job done.

DH had to get the OJ.

Disney003-3.jpg

My cell phone rang so I went out to answer it, telling DH to get us some fruit to share. When I got back to the table this THING was waiting for me.

Disney006-1.jpg

Now dont get me wrong it was amazing and we took the rest of it back to the room to snack on by the pool but come on, DH knows to order the fruit CUP, I think he secretly wanted the banana bread that it came with, which was super moist and yummy. The fruit was so fresh and ripe and so much of it....like I said it made the perfect snack for later. But note to self, dont let DH order when I am not there, goodness knows what he will get the next time :scared1:

DH had to get his Tonga Toast with bacon, like he says you cannot go to Kona and NOT order it...that is against some WDW rule he made up! :rotfl:

Disney007-3.jpg

It was great and I like to dip it into the strawberry sauce they serve on the side. We had about 1/2 left over and we ate that by the pool later too.

I have never ordered the mac pineapple pancakes before but I did try them in Oct, they come on the Kahuna Platter. I loved them so much that I told DH when we eat at Kona again I would order the full order..so I did, with sausage! I had them put the butter and pineapple sauce on the side. The pancakes are huge and LOADED, I mean LOADED with macadamia nuts....so rich, so good and so crunchy. I like to put a bit of butter and pineapple sauce on each bite, I know I am a weirdo but thats me! These were so rich that we could not finish them so they were pool food for later. Oh and BTW, see all those pits in the top and side of the pancakes? THOSE ARE THE NUTS!

Our waiter was a sweetie, his name is Ted and he is from my hometown of Boston. When I told him that was my hometown too we had a huge conversation while DH ate...then Ted said to DH "I am sorry, but it isnt everyday that you meet someone that knows the little things about home like you do" and DH said hey no prob as long as the food is here you can talk to my wife all day long :rotfl2:

Total cost with the DDE was $41.03

Cannot wait to go back for this carb ridden breakfast in August!

I am really enjoying your reviews- thanks for taking the time to post. Our next trip we may need to eat a few sit down breakfasts. Boma (one of my fav dinner locations) and Kona both look so yummy. Your pancakes are making me so hungry.

I have got to tell you guys, DH is getting a huge kick out of "this thing he calls my obsession" He cannot believe how many people are reading my report and now he wants to eat more so I can take more pictures so I can post more pictures so HE CAN GET ALL THE ACCOLADES!

What is it with the men? They get us to do all the work and THEY WANT THE CREDIT! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Wow! Wow! Wow! Can I just say these pics are drool worthy!
I hope to try the Tonga Toast for the 1st time in August.:)

The bread pudding from 'Ohana is my absolute favorite Disney World dessert. And Boma just looks amazing. Oh, and my DS9 was going gaga over the french toast your DH had at Olivia's.

Thanks for another great post!!!! Guess I'll have to add Kona to our must do list!!! :cloud9: Can't wait to see what's next!

So you know that we skipped lunch and ate the Kona leftovers by the pool today...we needed another chill out day by the pool....and it was not cloudy for once so we went for it!

We came in to get showered and dressed and DH asked what we were doing for dinner and I said Yak & Yeti...he said "Oh" not the good OH but the kind of OH your DH or kids say when they dont want to eat something do something or go somewhere. I asked him what his issue with Y&Y was and he said that it was similiar to the food we had at Ohana last night, really?? Are you sure?? Cuz I read the menu and it looked so different to me. I pulled the menu up and had him look at it, I asked him what he would order and he said nothing calls out to him....ok fine then what do you suggest?? Get this, he said call the people and see what else is open. I said ok CALL WHAT PEOPLE???

I called the dining line to see what would be open to us in a few hours, I thought I would stick with Epcot since that is DH's fav and if we couldnt get in a TS place we could pick up some CS stuff. All that was left was Morocco, England and one slot for 5:10 at Chefs De France. This was great because we were hungry from not having a big lunch so I took the Chefs because I knew DH would not like the other 2 places, I had asked him in my planning stages if he wanted to eat at Chefs and he said no but I did not remind him of that, instead I hyped it up so he would not be such a pill...I mean come on have I steered him wrong so far?? It is now 2:30 and it is raining so we left to catch the bus at 3:15. The longest wait for a bus so far, 20 minutes and then 2 pulled up for Epcot.

There are dark ominous clouds all around us so I knew more rain was coming our way. We walked up to France at 4:20 and there was a few people reading the menu out front. We went in and spoke to the CM and she said that we should come back at 4:45 and we will be seated as soon as they open. It was sprinkling and DH wanted to check voice mail so we just took a seat on the bench. The CM's brought out the podium at 4:45 and there was a line to check in immediately. So many were just walk ups not reservations and the CM said they would do their best to seat them. We were the 4th party called and seated next to the window, it was great!

One thing I will mention here about the DDE thing...not one server ever asked us if we were on a dining plan or had any discounts EXCEPT Chefs De France and the only place they reminded us that the tip was included was at Kona this morning. Our server Laurent came to greet us and take our drink orders, just 2 ice teas. He asked if we had any dining plan or discount, I said yes the DDE. He asked for my card, my AP and my drivers license...weird but ok??

He promptly brought us our ice teas but no spoons to stir in our sweetner, we asked twice for spoons and straws but never received them so we had to use the end of our knives. Very good and very strong tea.

Disney013-2.jpg

We also delivered one roll each, with butter. It was the best roll I ever had, crusty on the outside, soft as a pillow on the inside and still hot, which was a good thing because the butter was frozen solid...but DH clenched the butter packets in each hand so body warmth would help thaw it out, MY HERO! :worship: Laurent never asked if we wanted any more bread but that was ok because we didnt want to fill up and the roll is a pretty good size.

Disney012-2.jpg

DH spied the Tarte a la Flamme, flatbread with bacon, creme freche (sp?) and onions. When I went to order it, I wanted to try and pronounce it, I guess I did not do a very good job because Laurent stopped me with a laugh and said "You Americans butcher the French language, just point to what you want". He did not say this condesendingly...he said it in a very funny manner that had DH and I cracking up. This flatbread was so good and believe it or not very light and not greasy at all. Some of the bacon was very cripy and some not so much so it complemented each other perfectly. The onions were very flavorful, we would order this again in a heartbeat...it was cut into 4 large pieces which we polished off with no problem.

Disney015-3.jpg

I ordered the house salad with vinagrette but DH wanted me to get the French Onion Soup too because that is a fav of his...so ok lets get both. The salad was fantastic, the greens tasted like they were just picked that minute. The vinagrette was very light and tangy.

Disney016-3.jpg

The soup was wonderful, not salty like some french onion soups can be. We ate the entire thing and DH was scraping the cheese off with his fork, you could say his motto is never leave one bit of cheese behind.

Disney014-2.jpg

DH ordered the Macaroni Gratin, mac and cheese for us 'Merican's. It was soooo good and sooo creamy and believe it or not so light. I know you are probably saying, YA RIGHT NIC, how can mac and cheese be light, but it really was. The top of it was crispy but when you mixed it up the underneath was all creamy. Wow it was fantastic.

Disney017-2.jpg

I ordered the Roasted Chicken with Basil infused mashed potatoes and broiled tomatoes. I was given a half chicken that had a melt in your mouth crispy skin (DH told me, I dont eat skin) and the chicken was very moist and flavorful. It was placed on a ladle of brown gravy...super good stuff. The tomato was great once I put salt and pepper on it. The potatoes where out of this world, there was a leaf of basil on top but the entire scoop of potatoes had that wonderful basil flavor. Great stuff. The guy sitting on top of me, er sorry right next to me had the same thing and said his chicken was very dry...mine was not.

Disney018-3.jpg

Now I will mention that Laurent did not come by once to see if we needed more Ice Tea...he stood in the corner (about 4 tables away) and stared at me the entire time...it freaked me out. I waved my empty glass to him a few times but that must not be the French signal for "Hey Waiter dude, get off your duff and get me more wine of the south!" DH actually stood up and went to get him once.

And if you remember the Living Seas pre-show from back in the day, the famous line of AND THEN THE RAIN CAME. It started to pour just as we were finishing dinner. My brilliant DH came up with the idea of dessert and coffee. Great idea love! He picked the creme brulee for us to share and 2 coffees. I think Laurent was trying to rush us off so he could get another couple in our table but we were going to enjoy the rest of our meal.

Neither DH nor I have ever had creme brulee before so we have nothing to compare it to but it tasted a bit burned...just on part of it though so we scraped it off the top and shared the wonderful vanilla custard underneath. The coffee was just ok. The madelaine that it came with was dry and hard and blech...DH dunked it in his coffee and said it was not that bad.

Disney019-3.jpg

Total with the DDW was $82.26. This was a fantastic meal and I can see us going back there very soon. DH said it was a good thing we skipped lunch, I told him he better skip lunch on Thursday too because we are going to Tutto Italia and will have just a big a meal there too!

Tomorrow morning brings us to Boma again, before we check out of the OKW and head to the YC. I promise to take pics of Boma again, just in case I missed something the first time around. We are going to the GF Tea for a late lunch and if we get hungry for dinner probably some CS place.

Goodnight all, Tasty Dreams!

What is it with the men? They get us to do all the work and THEY WANT THE CREDIT! :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2: Isn't that the truth. My DH kept asking me last year, what can you possibly be doing on that site all the time. Well, when we went to a few restaurants, he said to me, "WE should have been on that site a long time ago." Yeah, whatever!

Loving your reviews. We've already booked all of our ADR's for this year, but we will definitely give Kona's a try next year (we did switch one of our dinners already to Boma's even though you reviewed breakfast).

I am definitely subscribing to this thread! Your pics and reviews are amazing. I have ADR's at Boma's and Ohana's (both dinners), but I'm thinking I may do Kona's or Boma's for breakfast also. Which breakfast is better in your opinion - Kona's or Boma's?
Which meal would you chose for Boma's - breakfast or dinner?
We will be using the DDP so I am only allowed 1 TS per day

Thanks,

Wow that is a tough one for me but I have to say Boma was better and it is a better value for the TS you need to use. There is a huge variety of food and a much quieter setting, we had a view of a little rock area with water running down it. I am not a big pancake eater, it is a special treat for me to order them at Kona but the food at Boma was really up my alley, savory and delish. Plus the fresh fruit is right up my alley. As you can probably tell from my reviews, fresh fruit and salads are a must for me, in my demented mind it helps to balance out all my not so healthy choices!

Whatever you decide, you will love either one!

She then takes this little pot and turns it upside down over the bowl...this golden creamy nectar of the Gods comes out and semi melts the ice cream and drenches the bread pudding.

Wow this thing is better than any desserty thing I have ever had at WDW. I notice that DH is not saying anything....I look over at him and his face is just close enough to lick the bowl. I ask him what he thinks, he looks up at me and I swear I see a tear in his eye and I said "ARE YOU CRYING??" He said no, his allergies are acting up again, YA RIGHT you are getting emotional over dessert! :woohoo: But seriously his allergies are kicking his butt up here in WDW...but I thought it was so cute. :cutie:

Disney025.jpg

oooohhh, I could BATHE in the sauce stuff they pour over the bread pudding. :cloud9: This dessert is SERIOUSLY the best dessert I've had in my life and I will cry.... CRY I TELL YOU :sad1: ... if they ever get rid of it! I'm crossing my fingers that it is still there in December when we go back!

great pics .. keep em comin'! :thumbsup2

Fantastic job yet again! I do have to give your DH credit for being right about 1 thing, there is a rule that you have to get Tonga Toast at Kona :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Other than that, you do get all the credit :goodvibes
