So you know that we skipped lunch and ate the Kona leftovers by the pool today...we needed another chill out day by the pool....and it was not cloudy for once so we went for it!
We came in to get showered and dressed and DH asked what we were doing for dinner and I said Yak & Yeti...he said "Oh" not the good OH but the kind of OH your DH or kids say when they dont want to eat something do something or go somewhere. I asked him what his issue with Y&Y was and he said that it was similiar to the food we had at Ohana last night, really?? Are you sure?? Cuz I read the menu and it looked so different to me. I pulled the menu up and had him look at it, I asked him what he would order and he said nothing calls out to him....ok fine then what do you suggest?? Get this, he said call the people and see what else is open. I said ok CALL WHAT PEOPLE???
I called the dining line to see what would be open to us in a few hours, I thought I would stick with Epcot since that is DH's fav and if we couldnt get in a TS place we could pick up some CS stuff. All that was left was Morocco, England and one slot for 5:10 at Chefs De France. This was great because we were hungry from not having a big lunch so I took the Chefs because I knew DH would not like the other 2 places, I had asked him in my planning stages if he wanted to eat at Chefs and he said no but I did not remind him of that, instead I hyped it up so he would not be such a pill...I mean come on have I steered him wrong so far?? It is now 2:30 and it is raining so we left to catch the bus at 3:15. The longest wait for a bus so far, 20 minutes and then 2 pulled up for Epcot.
There are dark ominous clouds all around us so I knew more rain was coming our way. We walked up to France at 4:20 and there was a few people reading the menu out front. We went in and spoke to the CM and she said that we should come back at 4:45 and we will be seated as soon as they open. It was sprinkling and DH wanted to check voice mail so we just took a seat on the bench. The CM's brought out the podium at 4:45 and there was a line to check in immediately. So many were just walk ups not reservations and the CM said they would do their best to seat them. We were the 4th party called and seated next to the window, it was great!
One thing I will mention here about the DDE thing...not one server ever asked us if we were on a dining plan or had any discounts EXCEPT Chefs De France and the only place they reminded us that the tip was included was at Kona this morning. Our server Laurent came to greet us and take our drink orders, just 2 ice teas. He asked if we had any dining plan or discount, I said yes the DDE. He asked for my card, my AP and my drivers license...weird but ok??
He promptly brought us our ice teas but no spoons to stir in our sweetner, we asked twice for spoons and straws but never received them so we had to use the end of our knives. Very good and very strong tea.
We also delivered one roll each, with butter. It was the best roll I ever had, crusty on the outside, soft as a pillow on the inside and still hot, which was a good thing because the butter was frozen solid...but DH clenched the butter packets in each hand so body warmth would help thaw it out, MY HERO!

Laurent never asked if we wanted any more bread but that was ok because we didnt want to fill up and the roll is a pretty good size.
DH spied the Tarte a la Flamme, flatbread with bacon, creme freche (sp?) and onions. When I went to order it, I wanted to try and pronounce it, I guess I did not do a very good job because Laurent stopped me with a laugh and said "You Americans butcher the French language, just point to what you want". He did not say this condesendingly...he said it in a very funny manner that had DH and I cracking up. This flatbread was so good and believe it or not very light and not greasy at all. Some of the bacon was very cripy and some not so much so it complemented each other perfectly. The onions were very flavorful, we would order this again in a heartbeat...it was cut into 4 large pieces which we polished off with no problem.
I ordered the house salad with vinagrette but DH wanted me to get the French Onion Soup too because that is a fav of his...so ok lets get both. The salad was fantastic, the greens tasted like they were just picked that minute. The vinagrette was very light and tangy.
The soup was wonderful, not salty like some french onion soups can be. We ate the entire thing and DH was scraping the cheese off with his fork, you could say his motto is never leave one bit of cheese behind.
DH ordered the Macaroni Gratin, mac and cheese for us 'Merican's. It was soooo good and sooo creamy and believe it or not so light. I know you are probably saying, YA RIGHT NIC, how can mac and cheese be light, but it really was. The top of it was crispy but when you mixed it up the underneath was all creamy. Wow it was fantastic.
I ordered the Roasted Chicken with Basil infused mashed potatoes and broiled tomatoes. I was given a half chicken that had a melt in your mouth crispy skin (DH told me, I dont eat skin) and the chicken was very moist and flavorful. It was placed on a ladle of brown gravy...super good stuff. The tomato was great once I put salt and pepper on it. The potatoes where out of this world, there was a leaf of basil on top but the entire scoop of potatoes had that wonderful basil flavor. Great stuff. The guy sitting on top of me, er sorry right next to me had the same thing and said his chicken was very dry...mine was not.
Now I will mention that Laurent did not come by once to see if we needed more Ice Tea...he stood in the corner (about 4 tables away) and stared at me the entire time...it freaked me out. I waved my empty glass to him a few times but that must not be the French signal for "Hey Waiter dude, get off your duff and get me more wine of the south!" DH actually stood up and went to get him once.
And if you remember the Living Seas pre-show from back in the day, the famous line of AND THEN THE RAIN CAME. It started to pour just as we were finishing dinner. My brilliant DH came up with the idea of dessert and coffee. Great idea love! He picked the creme brulee for us to share and 2 coffees. I think Laurent was trying to rush us off so he could get another couple in our table but we were going to enjoy the rest of our meal.
Neither DH nor I have ever had creme brulee before so we have nothing to compare it to but it tasted a bit burned...just on part of it though so we scraped it off the top and shared the wonderful vanilla custard underneath. The coffee was just ok. The madelaine that it came with was dry and hard and blech...DH dunked it in his coffee and said it was not that bad.
Total with the DDW was $82.26. This was a fantastic meal and I can see us going back there very soon. DH said it was a good thing we skipped lunch, I told him he better skip lunch on Thursday too because we are going to Tutto Italia and will have just a big a meal there too!
Tomorrow morning brings us to Boma again, before we check out of the OKW and head to the YC. I promise to take pics of Boma again, just in case I missed something the first time around. We are going to the GF Tea for a late lunch and if we get hungry for dinner probably some CS place.
Goodnight all, Tasty Dreams!
