Our vacation continued FRi with a walk in 100 Acre Woods. The lake there has hundreds of fish including foot long catfish. Guests are allowed to fish there, so bring your rods if you like.

Saturday we did the character meal with Goofy and Max. I wondered why these are the only characters they have had here the last 3 years. When I asked they said some guy named Richyams had sued to stop Mickey and Minnie from coming over claiming VB isn't a real DVC resort.

:D

The beach today was great and the DJ set up at noon by the pool. Another camp fire tonight, but we will skip it as they finally have the ice cream scoop program on a night without story time.

The pool is crowd today and they claim 100% occupancy. I guess that weekend points don't keep everyone away.

Ocean is 78 degrees and today's high is expected to be 90.

Good one Dasha!

How are the evenings there? We are heading out in a few weeks and are thinking we may need slacks in the evenings near the beach....or are we wasting precious packing space bringing slacks?

Love your reports since we are so close to getting there!

Oh, one more question...with the fishing, are there rods somewhere to rent if DS and DH want to go fishing in the 100 Acre Wood while we are there? Thanks!

We have three weeks to go before we arrive for a family reunion in the cottage. Is the "Turtle Patrol" lottery hard to get into? Also do you know if the barbque grills by the lake are first come first serve?

Thanks!

There's no need for slacks as the temps are warm, BUT if you don't have long pants for the campfire you better use a lot of bug spray. Our girls walk around in shorts outside until 8pm without a problem.

There are around 5 grills at the lake, but I haven't seen any used as of yet. Today is packed, so that may change. Not sure if you can reserve them.

They don't list fishing pools at Erb and Flo's rentals, but you can easier stand on ths dock with just a line and hook and catch the huge catfish.

Dasha.

Thanks! Getting excited now to get there!

The turtle lottery was a bit tough to "win" There were about 30 people in the lobby and they were only taking 20 total. Each of those 30 represented a party of people, so once they got called they took up a few spaces. We were in the lottery 3 times and it took until our third visit to get picked. However, there were people who asked to go to the informational part of the evening and then learned what they needed and walked alone for the turtle experience. There were also people who stood near the stairs and when the group went down onto the beach, tagged along. Also... we used the grills two summers ago. My husband, who never complains about bugs, looked like chopped meat. He says there is nothing "no see um" about the no seeums at the grills. My daughter came back in tears and was one big bump.. Be VERY careful about the bug spray. Use lots and wear pants and a sweater, gloves, boots, a ski mask ... etc etc.. get the picture.. LOL...

Thanks for the heads up Patricia. We encountered the "no see ums" on a previous visit and we're coming prepared with lots of spray! Of course....I'll be sending my husband down to the grills while I remain in the safety of the room! As for the Turtle Lottery....if you are selected...how many can your party consist of? Do you remember if they had a limit?

Holly,
As of last summer, there was no limit to the number of people you could bring. HOwever, when you are standing there and there are so many people waiting around you, watching you go up to give your name, it's daunting to say "10" when asked how many in your party. That would have been half the tour. We had 10 in the Beach Cottage and I just couldn't take up that many spaces. We took 6, the four oldest kids and one parent from each of our families. I just felt terrible taking up any more for our group. We have such a wonderful time at Vero, I did an add on there. I am sure you will have a great time. Just remember to send your poor husband protected to the 100 Acre grills. Have fun!!

Patricia,
We have 11 in our party and we will be at the beach cottage also. 5 are children & teens. I think we'll just send them down to the Lottery as one party and we adults will walk on our own. How did the visit go with 10 in the Cottage? As I said...we have 11 , 5 adults, 5 kids and 1 senior! We've never traveled with a family group like this before and this will be our first time using the cottage. We're anxious to know how it worked out for you. Any hints ? Which cottage did you stay in?

Holly,

Oh, I am so jealous!! It was the most relaxing and wonderful vacation! We went to Vero last July after 9 days at WDW. We had the very last Cabin on the right if you are facing the ocean. I am terrible with room numbers! The morning times were the best. Gettting up and drinking my coffee out watching the birds and the schools of fish in the water.. it was just perfect!! We did great with the whole sharing thing. THe place is so big that it doesn't seem like you are crowded at all. How are you going to set up the sleeping? The kids will love it . Are they little.?My little one is 5 and my friend's son is 7 and they played pirates the whole week . Running up and down the stairs and in the downstairs hallways and bedrooms. The whole time, they didn't bother us at all as we were chatting upstairs in the living room and out on the deck. The kitchen was equiped perfectly and my friend cooked up the fish that our husbands caught out on their deep sea fishing trip. The middle aged girls, they were 10, had their space to hang and the two teens were all over. The teenagers , my daughter and my niece, would sleep until 11 or 12 and just come to the ocean when they felt like it. We all talk about the trip as the best. Although we were there the year before in a two bedroom and that was perfect too. But there is something magical about that Beach Cottage and view. If you would like to email me, I would love to talk Vero!!

Patricia,

We have Grandma, my 18 yr old niece, 10yr old daughter and her 10yr old best friend in one room, my brother, his son 16yrs and my son 14yrs in the other bedroom and of course my husband & I get the master! My husband's brother & his wife will be upstairs on the queen pullout sofa in the living room! Should be interesting! As a matter of fact, I think we have requested the same Cottage that you stayed in. The last one on the right as your facing the ocean! How funny! Drop me an e-mail, I'd love to ask you about the Cottage more!
