Another 2nd baltic cruiser here. Hi Cindy!! Sorry I didn't make the meet yesterday. We crashed hard!!

So far the cruise is great, weather fantastic. One thing I would do differently if I could, is to get in a few days early instead of coming in the morning of the cruise. It would have made the first day more enjoyable.

DH and I just finished up brunch at Palo's. It was amazing. DH said he wanted to eat there everyday. We did book a dinner since we couldn't get a 2nd brunch.

Cindy already told you how small the Dover terminal is. Embarkation was annoying. No point in rushing to get there. But thrilling once we got on the ship.

We have the APL dinner rotation, late seating. Our main server is Romeo and I don't remember who the assistant is. Both are great and food was very good. Didn't make any shows. Just too tired last night.

Will try to get back here and read how Cindy is making out and add anything if I can.

Nina

Cindy... If I'm thinking the same Raphael, we had him as our Assistant Server on our last 2 voyages (2007 and 2008) and he was hoping to be a main server at one point... We had a great time with him and our main servin Alvin on our last trip... Great to hear he might still be on the Magic and as a main server...

I see people are asking questions, and since I'm on the 7/18 trip I'll try a few (for when you have time only of course, these questions are not as important as even splenda or cereal).

* Is the boat filled, or were there still rooms available?

* Does the boat appear to be in good shape, it is getting a bit older?

* Were the pools crowded, if so what time was the most crowded?

Thanks so much, I'm anxious to hear about your port visits.

Thanks for the reports! You folks are great!

Glad to hear about the improvement in the weather.

Keep it coming!

Cindy18 and lzj21428, we're on the next sailing and really enjoying the double LIVE report!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes Thank you, both, for taking the time to post!

Not on-board yet, but I was reading someone else' trip report who is on-board now
- they asked their waiter about capacity & the waiter told them it was more crowded than the 1st voyage & there were more children on-board this time.
- He also said they upgraded 3 of their rooms from inside to oceanview.

Hello from Oslo!

I tried to post last night, but nothing was working. It's fine this morning. We pulled into port at about 6:30 and it's just an incredible morning. The sky is clear and the forecasted high is 73. We're right in front of Akerhaus (sp?) castle and fortress, and City Hall is just down the road, where the ferry docks are to go to the ship museums. Really close, looks like a pretty short walk. We're doing Oslo on our own, so I'll report on that later on.

Yesterday was just a terrific day. The DDs didn't wake up until 2:15, and that was just because we woke them. DH and I went to the DVC meet at 1 pm, which was a lot of fun. The discounts to buy more points are really good, so we're thinking about it. Also special discounts on buying in early for the new resort in Hawaii. I had a seaweed wrap and 1/2 body massage in the spa at 3 (ahhhhhhhhhhhh) and DH and the girls went to see Up. The show was Twice Charmed, and it was formal night, so we did our pictures with Captain John and had a very good dinner in Animator's Palate. DH and DD 12 had the lamb, which looked really good. I heartily recommend the banana bread pudding for dessert.

The adult show last night was the magician, Jason Bishop. It was PACKED in Rockin Bar D, and we wound up in Diversions, where they did a video feed of the show. That was full too. He's really impressive.

Let me try to answer some questions: I think the ship is pretty full but not sold out. Some people on our meet thread upgraded, so there was room. Looks like fewer younger kids than usual and a lot more older kids, including what looks to me like large groups of people in their late teens and early 20s, which I don't remember seeing that much on the regular cruises.

I saw TDC Nala yesterday, and her toe was much better. She said she was taking lots of food porn pictures.

No Weetabix in the cereal selection, at least as far as I could tell this morning.

A word on formal night because I know people have been asking about clothing. We saw every range of dress code, from full-on formal to pretty casual. But we all felt that, on balance, people were more dressed up than they had been on our Western. There were a lot of women in full, floor length gowns, some pretty spectacular ones, actually. It was striking. Lots of tuxedos, including DH (who I thought looked very dashing). So anything goes, but if you feel like dressing up, you'll be in good company.

I have to mention the sun, because it's so amazing. When we left dinner at about 10:15 last night, the sun was still up over the horizon. After the magic show, the sky was turning pink. We deliberately left the blinds open while we slept, and I am pretty sure that it never got completely dark. I think sunrise was at a little after 4. My system is pretty confused, and we didn't really sleep that well last night -- probably still working through the jet lag. Still, it's very, very cool. We are really far north.

DH and I were up at around 5:30, in time to see part of the trip in through the fjords. It's just spectacular. We got coffee at Cove Cafe and then went over to Topsiders for breakfast. The DDs ordered room service so they could sleep a little later (they are next door -- we have 2 connecting Category 6s). Our plan is to get off the boat pretty early, pick up our Oslo Passes and head over to the ferry. I'll try to check in again before we pull out of port, as the internet connection seems pretty good from here.

You paint very good pictures, thank you for the update, and continue to enjoy the cruise and long days.

Hi All!

A brief report on our day in Oslo, as the internet has gotten very slow and difficult again. For anyone doing Oslo on your own, do not be concerned. It's REALLY easy. The walk from the ship to City Hall literally took less than 10 minutes, and it's very obvious where the ferries to Bygdoy Peninsula are. There is a helpful street map in the cruise terminal, right after you get off the ship (the forward debarkation point is closer to town, the aft debarkation point is closer to the Opera House). We were off the ship before 8:30 and caught the first ferry at 8:45 over to Bygdoy. We got off at the first stop and walked up hill (a bit tiring) to the Viking Museum, beating the first of several Disney tour busses. We really liked the Viking Museum. The ships are impressive, as is the installation.

After that, we walked over to the Holocaust Center, where there was a candid series of exhibits about racism in general and about what happened to Norweigen Jews during WW II in particular. Sobering, but worth a visit. Then we walked back towards the water and the Fram and Kon Tiki Museums. By that point, things were a lot more crowded, but the museums are fun and easy. We had a quick snack at a cafe along the water and then caught the ferry back to town.

From town, we went to the Nobel Peace Prize Museum, which we really liked. The main exhibits are about Mandela and Obama, and they are both very interesting. There is also a room with a brief bio on each winner of the prize, and that was interesting too.

After the museum, we walked up towards Karl Johans Gate and strolled along. It was very crowded but the buildings (National Theatre, Oslo University, etc) were impressive, and the weather was so glorious that it felt great just to be walking along. We found a casual sandwich shop and stopped for lunch, then walked back to Akerhaus Castle by the ship and explored the fortress grounds. Frankly, we were too tired by that point to tour the castle, but it looked pretty neat.

We did all of the above with our Oslo Pass, except for the snack and lunch. A word about that: we decided not to get the voucher before we left because we figured it wouldn't really save us any time and we'd still have to stand on line to pick it up. That was true, but there was something we didn't know. If you buy the Oslo Pass in the cruise terminal rather than online before you leave, there is a significant discount. The regular price for the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids) is 660 kr. We were charged 528 kr when we bought the passes in the terminal. Just a piece of info for those of you thinking about doing Oslo on your own. The pass paid for itself when we were only about halfway done with our day.

So now we're tired and a little sweaty and back on the ship. Time for some rest before the magician show and our first rotation dinner. Will try to post tomorrow morning, before we get off the ship in Copenhagen.

Oh, before I forget. Someone asked how the ship was doing. Considering her age and all the places she's been, she looks GREAT. I am continuously surprised by how clean she is. She honestly sparkles. We're not seeing any noticeable signs of age. She's still as gracious and elegant as ever. Maybe it will seem more obvious once the Dream arrives, but for now, the Magic is still as great as ever.

Thank you again, enjoying this with you, and nice to understand the little bits of info, coming out.

Thanks so much for all the details Cindy:thumbsup2

Was the line for the voucher for the Oslo Pass the same as the line for buying the Pass itself? Were there 2 separate lines or one big line for the both?

Did you see the Resistance museum? It is suppose to be near Akershus I think:confused3

Oh, forgot...how much did the snack and lunch cost? Did they accept credit cards at the sandwich shop? We're bringing some local currency but wasn't sure how much we would need.

Thank you so much! Your report is very thorough. We are planning Oslo on our own and now I won't worry quite as much .

Hi Cindy!

So fun reading your live report!

I live in Sweden and it would be so much fun to get a glimpse of the ship when you get to Stockholm. Would you mind letting me know which day and time that will be? And possibly, if you know, which harbor?

Looking forward to reading more and I´m so jealous!:yay:

Thoroughly enjoying your trip report!! Thanks so much for taking the time to post and answer questions!

I'm also interested in knowing about currency in each of the ports. And, is it true that if you exchange currency onboard the ship, you can also exchange back anything you have left over?

Your report is excellent.....love reading every word !!

Did the Nobel Peace Center take credit cards ?

How much kroner did you need for snacks and lunch ?

In Copenhagen I'd be interested in where you eat lunch >

THANKS for taking the time !!!!
