The group: Myself (turning 35 on 12/20), DH (40) DS (11), DD (3), and my DM. Meeting up with DA, and DU in FL. We're driving down from the Triad area of NC and renting a vacation home in Windsor Palms (first time renting a house; this should be a new experience all around!)
The plan was to depart at 3:00 yesterday so DS could go to school all day. I planned to work from 6:30 til 3:00 and take a short lunch so I could get in 8 hours. DH and I woke at 3:30 AM yesterday to freezing rain. By 5:00 AM DS's school was cancelled. Woe is me -- I was SOOOO tempted to call and take a vacation day so we could get out of there, but I had must-do things at work, so they dropped me at the office at 6:15 and DH spent the morning getting the car serviced, picking up prescriptions, cramming the last of the trip stuff in the car, etc.
They picked me up at the office at 2:00 (I skipped lunch altogether) and we left in pouring freezing rain and 33 degree temps. By 7:00 we were in Savannah, GA -- 68 degrees (after dark even!) and dry streets. Ahhhhhh! We had the windows rolled down as we pulled into the hotel parking lot.
We checked in and took a few things to the room that we didn't want to leave in the car -- laptop, camera, etc. After that we went across the street for "dinner". No one was really starving since DH had picked up burgers just before picking me up, and we also nibbled on some oriental snack mix (wasabi peas -- yum!), so our evening meal consisted of sharing a 20-piece McNugget and strawberry milk shakes all around.
I woke up at 5:30 (time I normally get up), and everyone else was still sleeping. Checked WESH for Orlando weather on our free wireless Internet connection (yay Wingate Inn!). Made some coffee in our teeny hotel pot, and the USA Today has been slid under the door. It's 7:40 now; time to get ready. The plan is to have breakfast downstairs and be on the road by 9 or 10. No hurry; can't get the keys for our house until 4:00 anyway.

We have stayed at Windsor Palms twice, but only in the condos. I'll be waiting for your updates!
