Disclaimers...My grammar is horrible and I can't spell. Also, most importantly, I haven't consumed the Disney Kool-Aid. I do not bleed Disney but I used this Board extensively to plan for this trip, so I thought I'd return something.

Background...1st Disney trip with Wife, and 2 boys (6+4). I am a seasoned traveler in the US. I've stayed in drive-up motels in unincorporated Tennessee villages to Ritz-Carltons and major Vegas properties (Wynn, Venetian, Caesars, etc...).

Flight: AirTran...don't let people knock them...they are always good for me. Flights are on time, bags get there and they have both inflight internet and XM radio (which continues to play during takeoff and landing). With those two features they beat anything out there for me. Crazy story today...we are on the runway to take-off the plane powers up and then the pilot shuts it down and gets on the intercom. "Sorry folks, but the plane in front of us just had a bird strike and they need to check the runway for any remnants". My wife turned white as a ghost, I chuckled and hoped the other plane was ok.

Disney Magical Express: Sure its magical once you get past the 1 hour wait at the Airport. I guess this is Disney's "intro to lines" for your trip. The CMs there appeared to dislike their jobs more than your friendly TSA workers (who by the way are actually very friendly if you don't make their job hard). Seats were comfy and they play a little "welcome to disney video" to keep the kids entertained.

Poly: Staying Club Level. You get picked up in a little golf cart and taken to the building. Check-in was great as they send the kids and family up to the lounge while you check in. Very nice intro experience...they gave the kids a bunch of stickers, sand pals and shovels and other stuff. We got fake lauas.

Baggage From ME: Took 2 hours to get here...then it arrived in 2 shipments. I remember someone saying that CM's didn't take tips. My fat behind they don't take tips. I always tip so this wasn't an issue...but be prepared. 2nd guy to bring up bags didn't get a tip and he clearly was expecting one.

Poly Room: Small by today's "exclusive" hotel standards. Everything is small. For showering purposes I hope you aren't over 5'4". Because thats about where the shower head is located. Hopefully I don't throw out my back this week taking a shower. Maybe I'll just kneel.

Thats it for now as we just got here and the kids are napping. Will update as I have time.

Disney Buses: They are what they are. Free transportation that you need to adjust your schedule and wait for. For me that is well worth not having to deal with driving myself.

Hollywood & Vine Fantasmic Package: We paid with TS credits so I didn't have a coronary when the bill came to $108 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Food was good...lots of bread selection, salad variety and numerous protein selections. Try the Ginger chicken...i'm a picky eater and I enjoyed it. Deserts were horrible and would be on par with your local $5.99 buffett. Bottom line...decent buffett but don't ever pay $108 out of pocket in cash for this place. Get a Quick Service meal instead.

Rides/Attractions: We got one thing in before the Fantasmic show...the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular. My kids loved it. As an adult I could care less. However, I enjoyed my kids enjoying it.

Star Wars Photos: Big thanks to Mellissa who took us "behind the ropes" for some cool picture ops as a family. Little bit of that "disney magic". However, all the people who saw us immediately started complaining about why they couldn't get back there.

Don't Be Rude: Crowds suck and things won't always go perfectly. You stick out like sore thumb when you turn bizatchy. Roll with it and make the best of it. It will make things much better. Also, you don't really need to make a huge stink out of returning a $3.99 pin because you found a cast member with one they gave you in exchange. Actually if you need the $3.99 back then OK...but don't turn into the big "B" word about it.

Fantasmic: Really??? This show was lame. Go splice together scenes from all the Disney heros vs. villians movies and you have this show. Even my 6 year-old was disappointed. 10k people stand in line for an hour to see this??? Save your time.

Disney Buses After Fantasmic: Good Luck. We bee-lined it ahead of the hordes of people because we could walk faster. That got us standing room on the bus. Once again...its crowded, its no fun but make the best of it. We met 3 different awesome families on our 15 minute trip. Open minds make pleasant experiences.

Water Pagent: Ok Disney...time to update this thing. This show is no longer relevant in modern times. Maybe its a nostalgia trip to all of you who saw this as a kid in the 70's...but to a NOOB, its pointless.

MNSSHP Fireworks: Awesome from the Poly Beach. They pipe in the music so you have it while watching. Wife and I drank wine and beer in lounge chairs while the kids caused havoc, but in a controlled havoc manner.

Good night...Day1 is over.

Chef Mickeys: What can you say...below average buffett...awesome character interactions. Basically Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, Minnie and Donald walk around individually. They stay at each table long enough to have a picture (maybe 2) and sign your autograph book. This saved us in the parks as our kids saw them in the parks and were "we already saw them". Make sure to have the kids sit on one side of the table while you sit on the other. This allows you to not have to move everyone for the picture ops.

Magic Kingdom Opening: Lots of crowds obviously but the kids enjoy the opening. If you are an adult...act like one. Kids that are 3-6 don't know any better...or at least if they do the craziness of Disney turns them instantly stupid. However, anyone that's an adult does know better and should be able to control their craziness. Bottom line...don't become the problem if you are the adult. Most parents try their best to control their kids...just remember that even when the kids aren't behaving...we can't always win.

Park Crowds Today: Ridiculous!!! MNSSHP really throws these parks into crowd problems. Today was one of the few days this week that didn't have it, combined with EMH tonight, it appears everyone and their cousin came to MK. We knew this going into it, but our schedule didn't allow a different park selection. AVOID days where there aren't MNSSHP and with EMH.

Pirate League: Well worth the $30 a kid...if nothing else it allows you to sit down in A/C for about a 1/2 hour. Tips...don't do this until right after lunch. Eating will ruin the make-up. So eat BEFORE you go in.

Parade: Enough has already been written about this. Our kids really didn't care much about so the wait was kind of lost on us. Believe the warnings about the people and the need to wait.

Fireworks: Once again our kids didn't really care. There is no "safe" place that we saw for the kids (I'm sure there is...we just didn't find it). We found what we thought was a nice little area right in front of Casey's outdoor tables. It was nice until a bunch of adults stopped right in front of us, thus obstructing any view my kids could have (they were literally right on top of us and since we viewed from an angle it was a no go). I understand that no one "owns" space so what can you say. Be prepared to have your views ruined. I rotated the kids on my shoulders throughout the show. So thus it became very unenjoyable for me as well.

EMH: Was successful for us. We walked onto Magic Carpet, Pirates, Space Ranger Spin, Tomorrowland Speedway. Clipped off these rides in like 1 hour (since we obviously crossed from Adventure Land to Tomorrowland). Could have basically walked onto Big Thunder and Splash but no one was in the mood.

Ridiculously Rude People: EMH only runs resort monorail line so it was crowded. Too ederly folks in Electric Scooters were trying so hard to make it through the turn to get into the monorail que line. People were honestly cutting right in front of them and not allowing them to do so. I used my huge gerth to effectively block people off so the elderly folks could get through. People were huffing and puffing at me and they could clearly see what I was doing. It wasn't even like the monorail was there and they were about to miss it. Seriously...my faith in society is dwindling from the people i'm running into on this trip. The Monorail gate attendant noticed what I did and came over and said "Thank You, It's Nice To See Someonne with Some Curtousy". I wonder how many jerks these people run into each day.

Ohana Character Meal: Food is 100% times better than Chef Mickey's. Highly recocmmend just on that fact alone. Lilo, Stich, Mickey and Pluto work the room. My oldest son committed a major violation and grabbed onto Pluto's whiskers and pulled them. That didn't go over well...Pluto immediately shunned the kids (i.e., no photoop...he just walked away). I don't blame him...my son was totally in the wrong. We had to take the younger son over to Pluto in the aisle later to get him a picture. Make sure to warn your kids not to mess with these characters :)

The Flu Bug Bites: Thank god today was already scheduled to be a "down day". My youngest son had the flu bug on Saturday before we left. I thought i was in the clear. Nope...appears I got it. His was very short lived and it appears mine might be as well. Sick from like 9:30 till now 4:00. Feeling much better now.

It's Hot...Darn Hot: Our hometown its 50 deg right now. Orlando you ask? 90 -92 deg and HUMID. It doesn't even get this hot in Summer back home. Taking some adjusting to get used to it...the flu bug isn't helping.

Dinner at Epcot Tepan Edo tonight...we'll see how that goes.

Crowds: For us the crowds were large. Lots of people drinking. Wish I was one of them. Looks like a lot of fun for adults to get their drink on.

Teppan Edo: Standard hibachi style restaurant. Food (and the hibachi chef) not as good as Bennihanas.

Illuminations: Kids couldn't make it long enough.

Rides: We didn't do any due to our late arrival and the long lines.

Epcot Conclusion: n/a. We couldn't rate this thing because our limited visit. However, it looks like a boat load of fun if you are of drinking age and not towing kids around.

Breakfast: Today was our first day without a character meal to start for Breakfast. It was a nice break to not have this meal.

DHS Rope Drop: Seriously people...you are ridiculous. Adults should be ashamed of themselves for something as silly as getting to be early for TSM.

TSM: Went on ride...oh and because we walked their leisurely and in an orderly fashion (i.e., didn't run past people knocking into them). We had to wait a whopping 10 minutes to ride...thats right 10 whole minutes. Calm down people. Kids loved the ride...I don't see why anyone would ever wait an hour for this thing and waste that much of your day. Cool ride...but still...that long.

TSM FastPass: Numerous people went straight to FP after rope drop. The line for FP was actually much longer than TSM ride. We did the FP after the TSM and got right up there for a return for 12 p.m. FastPasses were gone by the time we circled around later that morning at like 10:30. With FP at like 1:30 p.m. wait was like 10 minutes (if that long).

DHS Crowds: Were almost non-existent today. Everything was basically walk-on. It was finally our first park day that I could tolerate anything.

Big Kid Rides: We didn't do TOT or RNR so I can't provide any info on those.

PlayHouse Disney Live: I'm sure this has been written in a review...but just so you know, you have to sit on the floor during this 15 minute show. Thats rough on your body when you are beating it up.

Hollywood & Vine Character Lunch: Same food as the Dinner Buffet (see my Day 1 review) sans the carving stations. Characters were very limited...Manny, Leo, June and OSO.

I really like your report, its honest and straight-forward. I still haven't seen Fantasmic because I am just not going to wait 2 hours to see this. Maybe one day. I did make it about 30 min before showtime and it was standing room only, I was miserable with the crowds, so I left. I spent the rest of the evening enjoying a quiet night walking through the rest of DHS. Rode TSMM (it had just re-opened, so there was no wait) and walked around, it was very nice.
Anyhow, it sounds like your kids had a great time and you made the best of it. Looking forward to hearing the rest. :thumbsup2

Stamania: I'm dead tired. I do 3.2 miles 3x a week and I can't keep up with this place. A lot of it has to do with the 90+ temps and humidity that I'm not used to. Add into that pushing a cart with 100#'s of misbehaving boys and thats why I'm done. Also this little Flu Bug is probably messing me up somewhat.

Dining Plan: We are getting our "value" (and I use that word very loosely) because we decided to do Character Meals for 5 out of our 6 TS meals. If we had paid cash for these Character Meals we would have been out significantly more than the the cost of the DP. However, we won't ever do the DP if character meals weren't involved. Between the DP and Club Level, this is a sick amount of food. Also, the food isn't what we really want as 1/3+ of it relates to Desserts...which we don't even really like. I don't even know that this would make sense for those that are Pooh Size (keeping in mind that I myself am Pooh Sized).

Yelling at Kids: I keep telling myself I'm here for the kids...but its hard to find time to remind myself of this in between me yelling at them. It appears that every lesson we've ever taught them have been thrown out the window. Seriously we are spending no less than 2 hours a day correcting/scolding these little rugrats. This is really painful for us as we have 2 very well behaved boys. We are trying to do the correcting discretely so not to make anyone else feel the unpleasentries of this. It brings a smile to my face when I see other families fighting my same battle. What doesn't bring a smile to my face is the families who let their kids behavior go unchecked.

Cast Members: All the CastMembers we've encountered have been professional and friendly. I know a lot has been written to the contrary, but we haven't experienced any of it. I suspect a lot of peoples frustrations probably stem from unreasonable expectations of how these CM's "should be acting".

Stores @ Rides: It's costing me $30 a ride right now because of these darn stores at the end of every major ride. I have Indiana Jones toys, Pirate Toys, Star War Toys, Toy Story Toys, Stitch Toys. I will need to buy a suit case to get this stuff home.

Disney Magic: From what I see...Disney Magic needs to have 2 definitions. #1: The magic on their faces of seeing something that they love.
#2: The magic of their screaming, fighting, misbehaving and causing utter chaos. There needs to be 2 definitions as I see equal levels of these behaviors on everyone.

Future Status: I'm 99.99% unlikely to ever return here. I will find something else to steer my kids towards so that they don't want to come back here. The value proposition of this place is absolutely horrific, the attractions really aren't that spectactular, the technology is aged and irrelevant to the 21st century, the crowds are ridiculous and pointless. I understand that to a lot of people "DISNEY" is a "state of being" but its not to me. Thus, the magic does not offset the real world pitfalls it offers. I can get a lot more bang for my vacation $'s at numerous other places.

Regrets: I have no regrets so far because I knew what I would be getting. My kids are having fun (at least I think they are) and thats what this trip was about. I knew that I wouldn't enjoy it personally. The only Disney Magic I could have would be if I had the park(s) to myself the entire day. Now that would be magical.

Disclaimer: Please don't take this as me bashing Disney. Just giving people my honest feedback as to how a non-Disney person views a trip. I searched the boards for over half a year and never saw a "real" report so thats what I'm trying to provide.

Sorry you are not feeling well. Hope that you have a good sleep tonight and a better day tomorrow! :goodvibes Thanks again for your honest input! :thumbsup2

Disney Buses (the Good n the Bad): The Good...we were the only people on the bus from Poly to AK. That was nice. The Bad...we waited 30 minutes at AK for a bus and then to top it off we made an unscheduled stop at Blizzard Beach to pick up a few more folks. So 30 minute wait, then 40 minute trip from AK to Poly (stopped at Blizzard and Contemporary...each stop added about 10 minutes). If I had to take these buses all the time I think I would snap.

Tusker House Character Meal: Everyone we talked to swore this was the "best buffett" to do. I don't know why. The only unique item was the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Other than those, this was the exact same food every other Disney Breakfast Buffett has had. Characters very limited to Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy.

Kilimanjaro Safari: This I think is the ride that will be my concluding argument that people "blind themselves" to the "Disney Experience". C'mon folks...this isn't anything you can't see at your nearest zoo. Sure its always fun to see animals...but this isn't anything special.

Kali River Rapids: Holy crap do you get wet. But everyone reading this probably already knows that. To keep your feet dryer put them up on the metal pedastal in the middle tucked as close to the storage bin as possible. There is one drop where half the raft will get absolutely drenched while the other half will be somewhat OK. No idea if you can control which side to sit on so beware :)

Expedition Everest: I thought my youngest kid was 44"...but he wasn't. We must measure differently up north. That left me and my oldest going on this while wife and youngest were left behind. It's a good thing they were left behind. My youngest would not have done well on this. Actually made my tummy a little upset :( I hadn't read any ride reviews on this and was not prepared for the backward trek in the darkness...that got me. But it was fun. My son was a little sick as well, but he liked it once he got settled back down.

Bug's Life: Another nice 3D experience to get outta the heat. Good break.

Heat and Young Kids: We are only making it in the parks for 5/6 hours each day. Our young 6 and 4 year olds just can't keep up any longer. This is a nice pace for us. I think we could have done better if it wasn't 90+ out here.

MNSSHP: This is really screwing things up. We are paying to stay on the Monorail line and we can't even take advantage of going to MK at night after the kids are rested. This is really bothering me now that we are into the tirp.

Magic Kingdom: Today was a touringplans.com 0.8 out of 10. They were 100% correct until around noon. Then it got busy. No where near what Monday was (I would say 1/2 as busy).

Walking On Rides: We walked on Dumbo (1 ride wait), Snow White, Buzz Space Ranger Spin (twice), Astro Orbiter, Pirates, Splash, and then used as FP on Big Thunder Mountain, then walked onto Haunted Mansion, Magic Carpets, then FP Jungle Cruise.

Dragging Screaming Kid on Ride: We got some nasty looks from the CM's as we dragged our youngest screaming on Splash Mountain. We deserved those looks, but we also know our child and knew that as soon as he did he it would be fine. Have to train the kids at sometime :)

FastPass Game on Slow Days: I'm sure you all know this...but when the park is empty and they are running FP's...check the times. In all cases we were able to get FP's that activated in like 30 minutes. So we would grab the FP, walk on another ride and basically be ready to use the FP. We had accumulated a ton of FP's this way and basically could go on anything we wanted when the wait times got longer. Since we only had to wait 30 minutes for the FP, we could get another FP almost right away. Much better than waiting the full 2 hours for a very long FP return time.

Celebrate Parade: It was lame and our kids obviously could care less about parades.

Last Real Day in a Park: Thank God. We are all done as a family. It was nice to have the "best" day (if i can use that phrase) as our last day.

Thank God For Not Having Character Meal: Today was the 1st day without a character meal. It was nice not to have to do a buffett.

Maybe we'll do Epcot for a few hours before check out tomorrow...we'll see.

I'll post a summary once I return.

Crowd Rush to Soarin: Worse than the rush to TSM. Nothing makes me happier to see people shoot past an obvious qued up crowd. The reason we aren't moving as fast as you and up front as close as you are trying to get is because we are being polite and following proper crowd etiquette.

FP Line at Soarin: Longer than the actual line for the ride. I know its important to get that FP, but isn't it better to just get on the ride and get the FP after the initial crush of people? When we exited the ride at like 9:30 we could have gotten a 10:45 FP.

Turtle Talk w/ Crush: That's a fun show for the kids.

FP Pushing at Test Track: I'm 6'5" and huge and I actually got pushed getting to the FP machines at Test Track. This was at like 9:50 for 10:55 a.m. FP's. So it's not like they were running out.

Test Track: Cool ride, but it was WAY shorter than I thought it would be.

Living w/ the Land: I didn't go as my youngest didn't want to and I used the time to go get the Test Track FP's. She said it was 15 minutes long and relatively boring.

The Seas w/ Nemo: Didn't go either but family said it was an OK attraction just showing scene's and spinoffs of the movie.

DISers: Thank you all for you tips and secrets. While I do not share your devotion and love for Disney, I appreciate the effort you go through to share your knowledge and tips with others. Without your contributions, this trip would have even been a worse experience for me :) I will definitely refer anyone I know going to Disney to this Board for help.

Disney Is Not and Never Will Be For Me: I found no "magic" in this trip. The only thing I took out of this trip is that my kids and wife seemed to enjoy themselves. But for the $7k this trip cost I bet I can make them a heck of a lot happier on other things.

Why I (maybe you) Won't Like Disney: The value proposition is horrible. There are tons of obnoxiously rude people...and there is nothing you can do about it. There are just tons of people...if you don't like crowds you won't like Disney. It is very difficult to keep your kids behaved/focused...for us its a priority that our kids are constantly behaving and Disney made this impossible.

Things I Didn't Do That Might Have Made It Better:

Dining
I didn't partake in any of of Disney's "better" food options. However, I would never entertain going to Disney for "food". I can go to a ton of other better places for food than to Disney. I gave one TS restaurant a go and it was nowhere near the quality of its "real world" competition.

Grown-Up Rides
I didn't do TOT, RNR, SM. But once again, none of those rides compare to any of the offerings of say a Six Flags Amusement Park. So if I really wanted roller coasters I would go to Six Flags for a day.

Epcot World Showcase
This I actually thought looked really cool. However, I wasn't with the appropriate group to enjoy this. The problem with this is that I wouldn't ever be here with that type of group that it would make sense to enjoy the World Showcase. If I ever end up at a convention at DW I will definitely be hitting this up.

Disney Transportation: This was a toss-up for me. I hate mass public transportation but I hate navigating large traffic crowds even more. Thus, Disney Trans became a lessor of evils for me. It went relatively fine except for trying to get back from the AK. That was a miserable waste of time on a day we didn't want to be wasting time. I understand both sides of the "rent a car vs. Disney Transportation" argument. I would probably stick with Disney Transportation if it was on the monorail line. If it was off the line I would definitely get a rental car (the thought of doing buses only scares me).

Character Meals: Do 1 and be done with it. We thought we would treat our kids to 1 almost every day. While they enjoyed each one I think that one would have been enough.

PhotoPass CD: We preordered the CD and I'm not entirelly thrilled about it at this point. The PhotoPass people are all in the same area so all you really get is the same shots. I'm reserving final judgment until I can see what the wife does with the editing. I think we have like 120 photos in our account right now...but each "shot" takes 3 photos or so. So realistically I have like 40 to 50 unique photos.

Quick Service (or Counter) Restaurants: They did not appear to differentiate our credits between kids and adults. The rule was when kids were present they had to order from the "kids menu". Near the end of the trip we realized that if the kids weren't present we could use all the credits on the adult meals. I have no idea if Disney has a way to track this...but you could use all QS credits (both adult and child) on Adult QS offerings. The 2 adult offerings were more than enough to feed our family of 4 for those meals.

Poly Room Review: Small rooms and aged. Our bathroom had calcium, lime and mold build-up on the shower head. It was disgusting and shower heads are so cheap to swap out I was shocked they had this. Heck take $15 from one of my $500 nights and buy one for the next 1/2 year. I already commented the shower head height was at about 5'2" - 5'4"...showering sucked. There was blood splater on our ceiling. Don't know how that even got there...but it was there. It was immediately cleaned-up when we said something...but still disgusting. Don't waste your time on the "beach bonfire"...its horrible. Also, when they say its between the Poly and the Grand Floridian, its not, its right at the GF pool. Sheets on the beds felt like they were almost plastic. I can't even describe it, but they weren't very comfortable at all. The mattresses are very soft in my opinion (however I'm not an expert at rating these things...i just went by the fact my back hated them).

Poly Pool Review: It just a pool with a slide shaped like a volcano. Nothing to complain about...nothing to rave about. People have begun commenting recently on the loud music they play. It is loud, it is modern and it probably irrirates 1/2 the crowd while the other 1/2 enjoy it. Only goofy thing for me is that they role it out on a portable "dj stand" set-up that looks like trash and then it plays over the standard hawaiin luau music. So between songs you hear the other music.

Poly Firework Watching: It's as cool as everyone says. But here's my beef...after the fireworks there shouldn't be a crowd of people walking from the beach to the Resort Monorail, Buses and TTC. The Poly should reserve this experience for its guests. That's what I paid a premium for. But hey, its allowed so power to you that come to watch it.

Poly Club Level: It's worth it to us. We used it multiple times a day every day for water, beer, soda, snacks and food. Don't make it out to be some 5 Star dining experience and full meal offering and you'll be fine. It's a lounge to relax in and refresh a little bit. Also, clean-up after yourselves you snobs. You see everyone else cleaning up after themselves, so why do you feel you are entitled to just leave your mess. It's obvious the club level attendants aren't here to clean-up your mess so its sits on your table for a ton of time.

Crazy Things Heard at the Poly Club Lounge:

"What do you mean I can't order my kid a pizza"

"This is really all you have to offer...I paid how much more for this"

"This food really isn't that good" (with the Chef standing right there)

Very angry women...."I'm allergic to nuts, onions and shellfish...what do you mean there is nothing here for me to eat" (hey I feel for you with those food allergies...but man that has to eliminate a ton of food options for you...you'd think you would be prepped for these situations and would get upset).

"Don't worry kids, they didn't really mean that when they said you couldn't come in here with just your bathing suit on"

Boat vs. Monorail from the Poly: We did both numerous times...however, I only took the Boat because of the family. The monorail is the much better option to MK. It's air conditioned and faster. Maybe there would be a scenario where the line for the resort monorail was ridiculously long and the boat line was empty, then the boat would make sense.

I'm sure I'll think of more later.

Time to Upgrade Disney: Seriously most of the stuff at MK I did when i was a kid in 1982. You can keep your themes but update the ride technology. I'm sure this will send all the "Disney Purists" into a tissy...but it's the truth. With the success of POC the movies...you could have easily invested a ton of money to upgrade this experience. Your "Tomorrowland" isn't tomorrow any longer...its actually yesterday.

Time to Capitalize on What You are Doing Good: The movie CARS has to be one of the most popular movies in a the last 5 years. You could have easily built an attraction around this movie. Your current offering??? 2 fiberglass car bodies sitting in a "garage" that make noise. That is seriously lame. Heck, you have a ridiculously popular show in Phineas & Ferb and you can't even invest in the character outfits for them to appear in the parks.

Why Disney Isn't Improving: Because they don't need to. They are drawing these crowds in without doing anything. So basic economic principles of supply vs. demand dictate they don't need to do anything with supply.
