Hi everyone! I wanted to fill you in on Grand Cayman and Cozumel!
Yesterday we spent a wonderful day in Grand Caymen. The city itself isn't all that great..lots of banks and VERY expensive jewelry stores. We did Stingray City which we booked directly through Captain Marvins. This was an incredible trip. THere were about 18 people on the boat with two "captains". We made two stops..the first one at Coral Gardens for snorkeling. The water was about 8-10 feet deep and we saw lots of beautiful fish and coral. After about 30 minutes there we moved on to Stingray City. Swimming with these creatures was really an experience. Our captains got in the water with us and helped us feed, hold and play with the stingrays. They are very soft and smooth and love people. We even got stingray hugs....you'll have to ask your captains to do this for you. This is one excursion you can't miss. Kids will love it! A word about those famous rumcakes...we found that the cakes from Blackbeards are much moister with more choices of flavors than Tortuga...although Tortuga has more rum in theirs.
Today was Cozumel. DD and I hit the streets early to do some shopping. The Atocha Silver shop was giving out free silver charms in the shape of the island with the words Cozumel on one side and Magic on the other. Make sure you stop in to get one. Also make a stop at Los Cincos ( I can;t remember the rest of the name) to by your Mexican Survival bag. For $14.95 you get a great beach bag, a Mexican blanket, 2 shot glasses and a quart of Tequila!!! What a bargain! All of the salepeople are very pushy in every store...just a friendly warning. In the afternoon we went on the Fury Catamaran excursion. This was another great trip. The boat itself is huge and the crew is great. We spent about 30 minutes snorkeling (not as good as GC) and then headed towards the beach which was a 35 minute ride. The beach was beautiful...it is owned by the catamaran company so you are the only ones there. Kayaks, floats, volleyball, and drinks are available free of charge. There is also a snack bar which served great hamburgers with all the trimmings. You will need cash here. After an hour on the beach we got back on the boat and headed for the Magic. This was IMHO the best part of the trip! The music was blaring, the crew was dancing and the beer and margaritas were flowing. At one point we all formed a huge conga line and as you went past the bar the bartender would squeeze the bottle of margaritas in your mouth! (Kids got 7-UP). Needless to say it is one of the best bargains on the ship. I highly recommend it! Most of the excursions were sold out so I would suggest getting your reservations in early!
Well, it's late and I'm feeling the effects of the sun, wind and margaritas! I'll check back in tomorrow during our day at sea!
