I don't post much but thought I would try some daily updates if I can manage. We arrived yesterday. We rented an RV from myrvhome. It was here and setup when we got here. We went to publix before we hit the fort. Mallory did fine in the car for 7 hours. She traveled better than I did.

This is our second time at the fort. We stayed in a cabin in 2003. This time we rented an RV so we could bring Mal. She is our 8 year old dog. She is sick with a disease similar to ALS. She cannot use her back legs. She has a dog cart and gets around great in it. This vacation is not just about me going to Disney, I go often, but a chance to have mal enjoy it as well.

Yesterday we took her to the dog park. She loved it. She is getting all kinds of attention. I have really enjoyed it too and all the dog lovers. Our neighbors have 4 medium dogs. It is quite fun.

Plan to go to Epcot today. Maybe the pool as well it is going to be a hot one.

Thanks for the update. Have fun on the trip. :wave2:

Appreciate the updates and tip my hat to you for including the dog. After all, they are like our children...though they do mind better...

Have fun and post as you can.

Kris,
Thanks for the live updates from the Fort, it's great for those of us who are not there. Kuddos to you for making it so Mallory can get around, not everyone would do that. I'm sure she's having a great time at the dog park and getting all the attention.

Have fun at the parks and please keep the updates coming!!!!:yay::yay::yay:

Looking forward to your reports. Also wanted to tell you good luck with your girl. We have had two dogs in wheelchairs and our boy Max will probably end up in one too. He suffers from severe arthritis in his back legs and hip dysphasia. Hope she has the time of her life and you too.

It was a hot one. Went to Epcot. Had a few issues with hubby's magic band. It could not find his ticket but the CM figured it out and had us good to go. Kind of enjoyed having an issue just to see how they handled. It all went well and was fixed. We made it to our Soarin fast pass plus. I enjoy the new system. I don't have to get up early, of course I was up at 6 am :rolleyes1.

After Soarin headed to Mission Space. Then we enjoyed some lunch eating at the flower and garden outdoor kitchens. Enjoyed the food, especially the piggylicious maple bacon cupcake and the pineapple dole whip with rum. I have to admit the heat was getting to me and normally it is not a problem. Guess I am getting old. Needed some air so stopped for voices of liberty and American adventure. I have seen it numerous times and always get choked up. Watched Off Kilter after that and said it is time to go back to the fort.

Next we took the golf cart and toured the fort. Went all around. Checked out all the different camping rigs. Pretty neat. Then enjoyed some time with mal outside. We enjoyed wine and she enjoyed being out.

A walk for mal and she loved it. She gets so much attention and is so happy. It really makes me happy. I know our time is limited so I am thrilled she loves it.

Next on to Territory Lounge at Wilderness lodge. Dinner and drinks. Saw the EP at wilderness and by boat heading to the fort. Watched Wishes on the beach and back for a shower.

Was a great day though hot. Tomorrow is MK, hoping I can survive till the parade but it is going to be another warm one.

Hugs to your precious Mal. So happy she is having a great time.

It's Monday walking mal around the fort after going to MK, this place is empty. I am in the 700 loop and it is about 25% full. Definitely more action on the weekend, but it seems like everyone is gone. I did not check the pools today but the beach was empty, not many out walking. I am just surprised it seems people have a hard time with ressies but not this week. I know it is the fall and Christmas.

Had a good day at MK. It was crowded but manageable. The heat was bad but survived. Stuck around for the new parade. First I do enjoy parades and am quite sick of the old MK afternoon parade with the bubbles. This parade was awesome. New floats, great costumes, thought the parade song was only ok but loved the floats. Definitely worth seeing and glad I stuck it out in the heat.

Only thing about my site I am not thrilled with is the morning sun. When I get up to have coffee the sun is directly out front the camper. It is miserably hot. Right now it is perfect as we have afternoon shade and mal an I can sit out and enjoy Disboards.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement on mal. I am lucky that I can do all the extra things for her. I have an incredible appreciation for people who have to do this for a family member all the time.

Dinner is at artist point tonight.

I think lots of folks come in just for the weekend (or a long weekend) during the spring and fall when the weather is not too extreme either way. I notice the Monday-clean-out when I was there in March although it was still peak spring break time and maybe only half full. Maybe the weekenders are locals or Floridians who can get there for a shorter stay.

I agree the floats in the new MK parade are pretty nice.

1) Yep.
2) In fact, year-around. *
3) If one has a camper/RV and can get away on Friday, makes a GOOD WEEKEND.
4) Far too many people only use campers 2-3 times per year.
5) This way, the folks get lots of use from their investment.
6) Not to mention the pleasantries of The Fort.

* Of course, takes a lot of planning/knowhow to do this on holiday weekends.

If it where not for the 900 mile trip the fort would see me more often. But thats just too much towing for a weekend. However, Rusty is right, way many people use their trailers too little. Mine sees between 20 and 25 weekends a year of use (normal and extended weekends.) Most of those are in a "seasonal" location of sorts. But I do take trips within a 6-8 hour drive of home as well. Then 2 weeks in FL. I find that I am part of the few not the many that use their RV that often.

Today is Tuesday, we went to Epcot. Started in the morning after bf at Kouzzina's, one of my favorite bf places, then to Epcot. Left about 1 pm and back to the camper. Rented water mice and tooled around bay lake. It has been a few years since we did that it was a lot of fun. Also checked out the Poly construction. Then walked Mallory and back to Epcot for the evening. Dinner at flying fish, was excellent.

It is Tuesday and hubby and I really like this RV thing. I think I mentioned we are renting an rv. We had thought about one years ago but passed. Now we want one. So glad for the last post about use gave us something to think about.

Two issues today. One is with Mallory and one is with me. Mallory has a sore on her leg. Last night it was the leg down so she was able to get to it and lick it. It was, key there is was looking better but now looks ugly. I clean it every day. If she is not careful am going to get her a cone of shame.

I have bug bites. No idea what they are but on my legs and feet. Interesting thing is I have been wearing socks and shoes no barefeet or sandals. I seemed to get a lot of them on Monday after watching the fireworks on the beach but I have gotten some on the right leg today. I am so allergic to bug bites. They look wakeful and I keep scratching. Any clue what is biting me and what I can do to get them to stop?

Fort is still great.

Hi Kris first off I would like to say that you are a true dog lover, it takes tremendous devotion to care for a dog with DM especially one of Mal's size. We have been down your road twice before and suspect we will again in the future. Malory is an awesome dog and we could see the love and bond for you in her eyes. We truly feel honored to have met her and to have seen that connection first hand. With her personality it is no wonder she gets so much attention here at the Fort people are gravitated to her, she really loves life (and you) no matter what she faces. We wish you the best of luck in the future. Your Corgi friends:love:

Hi again, I forgot to ask if you will be here tonight (Wed) we could if you like bring you some of the stuff we talked about for Mal's leg. If you would like us to bring you some just let me know your site # in 700. You can PM me if you like, It would be after 7 pm. Just let us know...

It was great to meet you. Yes I love her lots. We will be here till Friday. We are at 711. We have dinner plans at Il Mulino, should be home around 8ish. We have been strategically lying her down so that she cannot lick her leg. It does look a little better, but will take any advice from a pro. I am sorry you have had to deal with DM as well. It really sucks. Hope to see you again.

Omg we might have some new neighbors.

Good afternoon everyone. Today is a bit more relaxing. I had a tough night last night with my bug bites. I woke up it scratch the stuffings out of them. I checked on mal and due to strategic placement for bed she was not licking her leg. It is looking a bit better.

Today we went to Hollywood studios. Had FP+ for toy story and then got suckered into a line for rock n roller coaster said a 20 min wait but was 40. We then had a FP+ for tower of terror. It was time for lunch and we ate outside at the lounge for the brown derby. This was a fluke and turned out to be fabulous. It stared to pour cats and dogs. We enjoyed our lunch and drinks and watching the pouring rain under our umbrella. We got a little wet but was so hot earlier that it was fine. We decided we we done for the day and thought the rain would keep up so headed back home.

We now have two new neighbors, was the first time mal barked a little. Dinner tonight at Il Mulino. Still enjoying the fort, except for my bug bites.

garneska in October of 2012 I was attacked by something that bit the crap out of my legs and ankles.

I have no idea what it was, just 100's of little tiny bites that were extremely itchy. My husband never got any.

I put on clear calamine lotion and that seemed to take away the itch.

Only thing I could think of at the time was sand fleas.

Last year and 2011 I was fine

That's a nice thought, Mike. :thumbsup2
