Live from OKW

BTW, I thought bldg 29 was the one to avoid for lack of views/bus noise ?

This is the building where one member said they would refuse to take a room if they were given it, they would rather forfeit their points . Noted was the location, lack of views, and noise. It was described as the worst building in OKW.

Since then, I have seen at least a hald dozen posts saying what a great building this is and how much they enjoyed the view and also noting how quiet it was.

With personal preference and perception so widely varied from one family to the next, we should all keep that it mind when reading how good or bad a particular room or building is.

The Southpointe buildings were closed due to paving, they are back open now.

But Doc said they had scaffolding all around them. THey must have worked fast with that too! Is the South Point pool back open now too?

Doc just arrived yesterday, so it is possible they were working prior to then and finished up yesterday. The pool is open as far as I know and as to the scaffolding I don't know, possibly they were power washing the buildings while they were paving.

I am sure Doc will share an update. :thumbsup2

No luck again today at Millionaire, will try again tomorrow. :) (I have been in the Hot Seat 15 times so far (including the time Diane and DH were there) and missed the 1,000,000 question once a couple of years ago. I have a closet full of shirts and 1,000 point caps and use the pins for trading. TNRobin recently won the cruise!)

The South Point pool is indeed open today and 53-56 again are home to guests. The scaffolding and contractor trucks are still in the 47/48 area and there is siding removed from both buildings and both buildings are cordoned off with construction blockades. Everything else seems back to normal. All roadwork appears to be completed as of yesterday- no sign of any crews around today.

We love building 29 and have stayed here many times in the past. We are on the end nearest Peninsular Road in a 1BR and have no bus noise - unless sitting out on the balcony. We can see the golf course (tee) and across the course are buildings 30,31 and across the 2nd fairway we can also see the back of building 47. Trumbo canal is visible across the street. I can see all of this as I type this post. It is a short walk to the HH area and getting a bus is also easy since we have the choice of Peninsular or HH.

Temps are cool today (upper 60's) with a little rain (mostly mist) and no sun at all. Tomorrow will be warmer and will generally get warmer as the next week progresses.

We are at OKW until Sunday and then move to an offsite timeshare over behind AKL. There is an unmarked back entrance into WDW there that cuts off about 15 minutes of driving from the usual trip in on 192. We had several weeks banked from other timeshares we own and are using two of those to get a pair of 2BR villas for us and our DD's family.

Seeing WDW thru the eyes of a 4 and 2 yo is a truly special event and we get to spoil them all we want for a few days. We'll spend several days in the parks and also a few days enjoing the area with them next week.

Thanks to all for the well wishes - they are greatly appreciated.

thanx for your post - and here's some pixie dust toward that hotseat pixiedust:

Doc,

Would that be Silver Lake?

Dumbo

It's directly across 192 from Silver Lake. We will be at Orbit One - a nice, small, average resort exchanged thru RCI. We stayed at Orange Lake last fall for a week on an exchange and it was also OK. The proximity to Disney is great for all resorts in this area though.

Check in is tomorrow afternoon. We already know we'll miss our villa at OKW, but the next trip is only 10 weeks away! ;)

Hope your having a great time Doc. This may be a stupid question, but in your post about closed buildings, you said buildings 53-56 appear to be open. Does that mean buildings 53 and 56 are open or buildings 53 through 56 are open? I know I'm being obsessive but my family and I find building 55 to be our favorite building. We'll be down there next week and are hoping 55 will be open. Continue having fun!

Thanks Doc for keeping us posted while you are there. We aren't going until May, and as someone else mentioned, we can enjoy your vacation!!!!

Building 29 is the building that has heavy vegetation if you are on the first floor. Since Doc is on an upper floor, his view would be of golf fairway. Also, he COULD be in a GV, since there are 2 GVs in that building.

Thanks Diane ! I had a little notation on my OKW map that said this was not one of the better bldgs---heavy vegetation and road noise being among the reasons. Glad Doc has a good view though :)
WebmasterDoc says: Temps are cool today (upper 60's)
Sounds like a heat wave to me right now Doc ;) :sunny:
Enjoy your stay at Orbit One as well ! Read some nice reviews about that resort on the Orlando boards.

Maybe I will see you Doc checking in sunday morining. You have a great trip.

The only buildings still closed off are 47 and 48 - all of the others are open to guests. The South Point pool is open again and the roadwork seems to be completed.

Temp today was 78, but it will drop into the upper 60's again tomorrow and then rise thru the next week into the low 80's by Thurs.

We are in a 1BR villa - #2924 and do have a good view all around. There is some vegetation at the ground level, but even there it looks like the golf course may be seen from most rooms.

Grandkids arrive tomorrow! All is well! :teeth:

Whoa....thats pretty impressive Doc :thumbsup2

Yall have a good time and enjoy!

That was me. Many years ago, we were assigned this bldg. It was very loud especially at night, with noise from the busses. We had a very hard time getting to sleep. Who knows, maybe the vegetation has filled in over the years. Maybe I'm just super picky about this particular topic. Anyway, I'm glad it's working out well for you Doc :)
