Live from OKW - Oct. 30 - Nov. 5th

How's the weather there, by the way, temperature wise? Whatever it is, I'm sure it's nicer where you are than where I am at the moment.

I hope you enjoyed your meal at the House of Blues. Have you eaten at Olivia's at all? Half of us like seafood, the other half don't. I was checking their menu and I'm not sure it has enough options for us.

Also, I think it's called Goods to Go? How was that compared to other DVC quick-service locations?

Nice photo update.

The weather has been really great. We had rain one morning (Monday), but that is all we've had. Temps in 70's during day and 60's at night.

We haven't eaten at Olivia's this trip. We ate there in the past and really didn't care for it. Goods is really just a window where you can order items but not on par with the quick service options at VWL or AKL. House of Blues was great. DW and I split the Jambalaya and I got a cup of Gumbo and she got a salad. It was all very good.

One thing I will say, and I hope the OKW folks don't take exception but we've stayed here three times now and we've decided we really do prefer the DVC resorts that are connected to a regular resort hotel (like AKV and VWL). I just miss getting up in the morning and wandering over to the lobby and drinking my coffee while people watching and getting caught up on the news on my iPhone. OKW is just too large and spread out for our tastes. We booked OKW because we thought DD31 was coming with us and we wanted the two beds in the Studio. But she had to back out because she changed her school schedule (she teaches year-round Middle School). Now don't get me wrong, OKW is a great resort but I think I really do prefer the VWL type resorts better. It makes me really happy that we have our points at VWL and AKV.

Plan for today - believe it or not, we are hanging around the room until 9:00, so I can call MS to make our 7 month ressie at HH for next year. I already have a Studio I made at 11 months, but DS36 is going with us next year and we're changing to a 2BR. Wish me good luck getting that ressie.

After that, we are heading to AK for the last time and then this evening/night is MK for Wishes and ELP. I have a feeling it is going to be mobbed because MK has closed early all this week except when they did MNSSHP. So there are a lot of people who haven't seen Wishes or ELP yet. If you leave on Saturday, it is either tonight or tomorrow night and that is it for this week.

I probably won't take a lot of pictures today as I've just about photographed everything on property :).

Later.

Wolfpackfan,

Good luck with your ressie's... I just called this morning and was able to get a 2 BR for June 3-7 @ HH!! I hope I didn't take the last one... :) The 1BR's are already gone though on June 3 & 4th so we had to upgrade... Darn... haha. Love the pictures, living vicariously through you from my desk in Ohio... :)

I've really enjoyed your photo updates - it looks like you are having a fantastic vacation.:goodvibes

We'll be staying at both VWL and OKW for the first time next Spring, and will be sure to note the difference between a DVC/hotel resort to the DVC only ones. We own at SSR, so are used to the spread out feel of some of the resorts, but it will be nice to compare it with VWL.

Hi neighbor - we will be at HHI the very same time as you. I called this morning and got our Studio ressie upgraded to a 2BR. No problem at all. I didn't ask about a 1BR. Our DS has never been to HHI before, usually it's DD we take with us. But he deserves a vacation and I figure even though he has no interest in the beach he can spend the time relaxing at the resort and sitting out on the balcony reading. I figure we'll take him into Savannah one day to eat at Mrs. Wilkes, plus maybe a day trip to Charleston also.

Thursday afternoon update -

Well we're now back in our room after going to AK. Did a safari (saw lots of Rhino's this time) and then I did EE (wife doesn't do roller coasters). Had lunch at the outside area next to Yak and Yeti. Finished up with Festival of the Lion King. Now we're resting up to go to MK this evening for ELP and Wishes.

Once again I've added some pictures to my photo album. Hope you all aren't getting too tired of them. I don't know that I've ever been on a trip where I've taken so many pictures. But I bought a new camera before the trip and am enjoying using it. Plus I tend to take a lot of pictures on my iPhone also.

Friday morning update -

Woke up this morning to overcast skies and a feeling of dampness in the air. The forecast is for showers this morning with clearing later on. It is also noticeably cooler.

Plan for today is to go and have breakfast at the Polynesian (no not Kona, but Captain Cooks instead - same food but a lot cheaper). Then we're going to do a hotel tour - visiting all the resorts on the monorail and then take the boat over to VWL :). Then boat back to Contemporary and head to MK to do a final walk around. For some reason I have it in my mind I want to visit Tom Sawyer's island. Plus we want to see Country Bears and have to ride the train. And who says people in their 60's don't know how to have fun :lmao:.

This afternoon/evening will be Epcot and hitting the food kiosks one last time.

Tomorrow we head home unfortunately. Well almost home - we're splitting the trip in half this time spending Sat. night in Savannah.

Enjoyed reading your trip report and looking at your pictures. Thank you for taking the time to post them. Have a safe trip home!:thumbsup2

Wednesday afternoon update -

Hit MK this morning and crowds were very small early on but had got larger by 11:00. Did walkons at Peter Pan, Snow White, Winnie and Buzz (can you believe 60 somethings doing Winnie :lmao:). Left MK around 11:00 because we had a noon ADR at Coral Reef. I got the lobster soup and mussels and DW got the crab cakes. Excellent mussels and soup. We then basically did a walk around World Showcase. Saw the Canada and France movies and hit several food kiosks. Then did American Adventure before heading back to OKW.

Plan for tonight is DTD and dinner at House of Blues (plan to split the Jambalaya). Plus do some shopping.

Added still more pictures to my photo album (as usual link is still below). I've just about taken pictures of everything I can, I think.

Another 60 something who also likes Winnie! I like the fun of the honey picture making in the queue!

Saturday morning - Final Update

Well we head home today :sad1:. We had a great vacation and OKW is a very nice resort. I hope I haven't bored you all too much. I did post some additional photos yesterday afternoon that includes some resort pictures from GF, CR, WL and POR. It had been a long time since we had checked out Port Orleans (or any moderate resort since we joined DVC). I had forgotten how beautiful those two resorts are. I think next trip we will spend a couple of nights at Riverside before we check into AKV (this will be next November).

Now to pack up the car and head out. We are stopping in Jacksonville to have lunch with DW's cousin and then spending tonight in Savannah before heading home tomorrow. Hope to have dinner tonight at Uncle Bubba's Oyster House in Savannah.

Well that's it until our next DVC trip which will be next June to HHI.

Have a safe trip home. I'll look forward to your next trip. Enjoy Uncle Bubba's. It's a great restaurant in a pleasant location.
