Little "Thor" has RSV

He started feeling bad this Friday and has been to the Dr twice. He's not quite bad enough to be in the hospital, thank goodness, but we will be giving him breathing treatments for a month to help him fight this. I't s manifested itself as bronciolitis (sp?) and he's having a tough time breathing. He still has a fevor so if you all could think some good thoughts his way I'm sure he could use them!

Sonya--we went through this with DS. Bronchiolitis as an infant, his first winter. If they did not already, see if you can get the mask attachment for the nebulizer. It makes it easier to get the meds into him. It will be OK. If they don't want to hospitalize him, they probably caught it nice and early.

It's tougher on you and your DH than it is on "Thor" Make sure to sleep when you can, because you will be awake with every cough. Trust me on this.

had it and there was no room in either hospital ......all full of rsv babies....and they asked her if she felt comfortable enough to count his breathing every hour and to sleep near him......she did and he came out of it in a few days......poor baby Thor........give him a hug from us

Prayers said, my youngest and one of my nephews had it. My DD didn't spend anytime in the hosptial but nephew was there for a week. Although in hindsight I should have asked them to hospitalize DD, they kept saying if she gets any worse they will but we were doing breathing treatments every 20 minutes for part of the time and it was just awful

It helps them to breathe if you prop their heads, you can put something under one side of the crib to make the mattress tilt. I just held DD while she slept so I could keep her propped. It can also make them more prone to be asthmatic. My nephew never had additional problems but my DD does have asthma.

Yeah, he's wheezing like he has pneumonia or an athsma attack. We haven't slept in 2 nights and have just been napping with him. I held him for part of last night. He has a fishy mask to wear with the nebulizer. Too cute. He doesn't like it though!

Sonya if he is crying he's breathing deeply and the meds are going to go into his lungs better

My DD hated the treatments. Since we ended up doing them from the time she had RSV (6mths) until she was 2 you'd think it got easier but it never did. The worst was once we were traveling and I had to give her one in a gas station rest room (it had an electrical outlet) . I'm sure everyone outside was wondering what I was doing to make that child scream so. It is a very long 10 minutes.

DD2 currently has it also. She is almost 2, so it is not as serious but still plenty miserable.

The doctor on Friday morning said he has already seen 3 cases that day.

They thought my ds had that when he was about 4 months old. Scared me half to death because at the time, I didn't know much about it. He didn't have it though.

I hope little "Thor" gets to feeling better soon.

DD is now 12, but she had RSV when she was about 3 months old. She had to go into the hospital, because she was so congested that she spit up whatever she ate. She was there for a long 5 days, but she bounced back pretty fast.

Hang in there and give him a big hug. So sorry he's sick.

Hope your sweet little boy is better very soon! Our DS had it when he was an infant also, and I remember it as a very scary time. But you'd never know he'd had it now. He hated the breathing treatments also, and we were exhausted from both being up with him at night and trying to find different ways to entertain him during the treatments. Hang in there, and take care of "Thor" and yourselves too!
