Our whole family, 14 in all, are on the 11/06/04 Western, and our baby sister will be turning 30 on 11/12!!! Any suggestions to make this especially memorable for her? (Even if it's in an over-the-hill type of way... We've gotta rub it in a little!) We've already talked about treating her to a spa treatment, but we also wondered what else might be out there...

Thanks so much for the input! Don't know what we'd do without Disboards!

How about checking with Shirley at The Perfect Gift for a gift basket to start with? Shirley is great at helping folks create special baskets delivered to cabins. www.theperfectgift.cc or call her at 1-800-950-4559.

Once on board, check with the cruise staff for some ideas. I bet they can find some way to help you embarass her royally. You did say you wanted to rub it in a little didn't you?

How about a metalic door sign that announces to everyone that comes down the hall that a 30 YO is staying in this room?

If you let the head server know about the birthday, they will provide a cake and get all the servers to gather round and sing to her.

Is that enough?

Those are great ideas, and yes, we do want to rub it in a little!;)

Thanks!!!

Just want to reinforce the mention about decorating the door. My extended family cruised last fall to celebrate my 50th and my door was appropriately covered with signs, magnets, etc. and it made it very special . . . not to mention easy to find late at night.

You can get magnet paper that you print on with your computer and printer at most office supply or craft stores. Also can get magnetic decorations at many half price or discount card/party stores or buy the sheets of small magnets that are sticky on one side and put them on the back of decorations. I had some 3D ballons and a 3D birthcake.

You also might get her a tee shirt with an appropriate saying imprinted on it.

I wanted to decorate the room/door on DD's birthday, so took along tape and supplies and did it myself. If you buy the decorations from DCL, they will be up when you get to the cabin. That's nice, but I wanted them to go up on THE DAY. The door decorations got a lot of attention from the little girls on the cruise, which was great for miss "turning 13." Try the local party outlet or paper goods outlet. We also got a paper centerpiece which I slipped to our server and asked that he put on the table the next night.

If you mention it to the entertainers in the smaller clubs (not the main stage)...they'll make a mention or embarass her to death during their performance. There is the "standard cake" and HB from the servers, of course.

You can order a tray of munchies or gifts sent to the room (you will get a catalog with your docs.

How about designing t-shirts for your entire party...you could have some real fun with that!

I definitely want to do the t-shirts! Any suggestions for Disney graphics or text for the front? Does Disney have anything that could help me in this department? I thought it would be cute to put my sister's name on the back of her t-shirt, but the back of mine would read "Emily's Sister," and so on for the rest of our family..."Emily's Mother", "Emily's Brother-in-law", "Emily's Niece", etc.

Thanks for all the super ideas! :earsgirl:

Check the DisneyStore.com site - search on 'Create Your Own'. They are running a sale on them now - adults short sleeve $12.99 (they also have long sleeve, sweatshirts, and kids sizes). They have about 20 different pictures to choose from and allow up to 3 lines of text. You should be able to put the relation (sister, neice, cousin) to 'Emily' on one of the lines, as each shirt can be different

Might be a good place to get a few ideas...

Good Luck!

**If you decide to go with the DisneyStore - do a search on Google for "Disney Store coupons"... it'll give you a ton of sites to check out. There is usually always one for at least 10% off your order!)

Why don't you shop for birthday decorations before you leave, pack them in your luggage, and then have your servers decorate your dining room table for dinner that night? We did this during our last cruise for a close friend who's a firefighter. We found a kid's birthday table set that had fire trucks, hydrants, dalmatians and firemen on the paper tablecloth, the plates and cups. I talked to our server the first night to see if decorating would be possible and he said "No problem".

I think if you wanted to rub it in, doing an over-the-hill theme in the main dining room would fit the bill, don't you?

BTW, the biggest problem we had was getting our friend into the dining room. His wife said he saw the table as they passed by and ALMOST went back to their cabin :rotfl:
