Little Mermaid Closing?

Oh I hope not - that is my daughter's favorite and she is looking forward to meeting the "real" Ariel in July. Anything Ariel is so hard to find, I really wish Disney would come out with more Ariel merchandise.

I was reading on JHM today in the Why For Return column and notice one of the feedback comments stated that they are closing Millionaire and Little Mermaid. Is that true? I had heard rumors about Millionaire but not the Little Mermaid. LM is one of our favorites at DS.

Isn`t that the same site that said they were going to replace DisneyQuest with an ESPN zone :confused3 :rolleyes2 :lmao:

I doubt they would close mermaid... :thumbsup2

I really really hope not! I love that show. It always has huge lines, I thought it was a popular one. Anyone else know anything about it?

I hope not, our next trip will be our first time to MGM and the Little Mermaid is what my dd6 is looking forward to the most.

Exactly WHY would Disney close an attraction that ALWAYS ALWAYS has a long long line  !!!

My kids are all grown up BUT when DH & I go to Disney ALONE, we still get in that line and wait to see ARIEL. I LOVE IT!!!

I seriously doubt they would close it this year since Disney is supposed to release the Little Mermaid DVD in October. I have never been to MGM, so I can't comment on the line situtation. But from a marketing perspective, I sure wouldn't close an already popular attraction when the featured star is going to be the center of attention right before the frenzied holiday shopping season. Instead, I would have lots of Ariel merchandise on hand and promote the dickens out of it.

You laugh, but even the Passporter book mentions the rumor about Disneyquest being replaced by ESPN (as a rumor).

EXACTLY what I thought. The thing has lasted much longer than they predicted in the first place, and is always crowded (it's a FastPass attraction for Pete's sake) ... to close it now, with the Special Edition DVD coming out soon would be absolutely STUPID.

I don't buy into that rumor ... sounds like someone wants to get a chuckle at all the message board reactions :)

We've been on 4 trips to WDW and been to MGM a couple of times on each trip and we have yet to see the Little Mermaid show. It's never at the right time for our plans. Well, on our trip in 10 days the Little Mermaid show is #1 on my to-see list.

Whether or not they're thinking of closing VOTLM, there is going to be plenty of Ariel merchandise come September and October with the DVD release. Cinderella took over stores last year, and Ariel will this year. In the end, I think they determine merchandise in part by how well the character sells. That's why some female heroines don't get much attention. Their merchandise doesn't sell.

So funny seeing these initials for Little Mermaid....I actually had to stop and THINK..what exactly do they STAND FOR.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

or ya, Voyage of the Little Mermaid!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

The other side is it could close for refurbishment.

Jim Hill has some good info, but considering that I think about two years ago he gave COP less then a month to live.... not all his sources are as good as he thinks they are.. I don't worry about anything I read on there until there is some other verification... (I think he is better on CA then FL)

It may be a little kid attraction, but this 41 year old counts it among her favorites! Keep it open! :)

I hope they don't close LM. I love that show and we go see it every time we go to Disney. Here's hoping the rumor is dead wrong.

actualy the abreviations are VOLM

and if you saw us in the black light number in what we are wearing you would think the VOLMS are some sort of strange cult.

THATS WHY THEY SAY NO FLASH PICTURES!
it ruins the magic and blinds us.

and it has been known to happen that if a flash goes off Sebastian will look at you and scald you while he is singing.. or all the fish will just colapse on stange and play dead for a few seconds.

we do some crazy stuff and we talk about you flash picture takers while we are on stage.. hehehehehe.

Ah, the inner workings of us theatre folk...hehehe.

Anyway, like others have said, with Little Mermaids platinum DVD release in October that would be crazy stupid for them to do. It could use a little face lift (mostly the rake of theatre) but thats about it.
