I found I can buy discounted tickets for the 3d viewing of Little Mermaid during our trip to Cali. I so want to go! But I planned our whole trip around not going to LA/Hollywood. What's a good time to go to avoid LA traffic? It's a 45min drive from Anaheim to El Capitan driving I-5-101. We're going on a Thursday. 10:45am, 2pm, 4:45pm? Which time is best? How much time should I really figure there, and then back? Would be better to drive an alternate route? :confused3 TIA!

I would go to the 1045 AM showing, you miss a bulk of AM traffic, afternoon rush hour is usually between 3PM-7PM.

We just went yesterday to see Planes. Left Hojo's about 11, got to Hollywood & Highland about 12ish. Minimal traffic (for LA). We hung out and did a few other things, left Hollywood about 7ish and again no traffic. Made it back to get pizza and watch Fireworks with champagne from our balcony.

If you are super ambitious and want to get back before afternoon rush hour, I'm sure it could be done. But my idea is, if you are going to that much trouble, why not make a day of it? YMMV.

If you decide to make a day of it in the Hollywood area, there is a lot to do quite close to the El Capitan. You could eat at the Disney Soda Fountain next door, see the stars on Hollywood Blvd. right outside the theater, visit the Hollywood & Highland shopping center across the street (home of the Dolby Theater, where the Oscar ceremony is held) -- there is a photo spot for the Hollywood sign on the upper level, the Tar Pits (George Page Museum) is on Wilshire Blvd. between Fairfax and La Brea, the Farmer's Market and the Grove shopping center are on Fairfax, etc. You could easily enjoy a whole day in that area and skip traffic going back to Anaheim.

That place looks amazing!!! I want to go there!! I can never get my DH to go to Hollywood or any of LA for that matter when we are there. It is only to the airport and back. :(
