Little Details

Two weeks ago I spent the day at DL and took many, MANY pictures. Tonight, while sitting under my blankets drinking some tea out of my Alice in Wonderland mug, I was looking through my pictures. While looking through the pictures I took, I noticed a little detail that I never knew before (and despite my low post count, I'm usually considered a HUGE Disney buff/nerd).

I never noticed that on top of Peter Pan, the wind direction thing ( sorry, don't know what to call it!) is a pirate ship! I can't believe that I never noticed this before, or even heard about it. Anyway, here is the picture I took and then I cropped the pirate ship.

Ahh the details!!! Since that's Peter Pan's Flight that would probably be the Jolly Roger. I'll have to look for it tomorrow! Nice Find!

Now that you mention it, I did see some things in a few photos after my September trip that I didn't realize was there when I took it. They were testing stuff for Halloween after park closing and there were some ghost projections that showed up in some of my photos. I thought it was lens flare at first, but they only showed up in some of the photos in/around NOS and Frontierland and they are in different positions even though some of the shots were from the same spot. So the ghost projections were moving around. I have too many and don't want to post them all, but here are some:

That's neat. I'm not sure if I've seen that before. Last summer I took a picture of the ship on top of the HM which I hadn't noticed before. I would post a picture but it is currently on my computer that died so I can't get to it now.

I didn't necessarily notice things in my photos that I had never noticed before when I got home, but I learned things on the DIS here that I didn't previously pay much attention to, so then that drew my attention to other things when I went back to DLR:

Those weather vanes - like that Pirate ship - are up in several places around Fantasyland (maybe even in a couple of other spots in DL too? Can't recall). I had never looked up to notice them until a couple of years ago, when I noticed that people had posted photos here on the DIS!! So the weather vanes are a sort of overlooked hidden gem of DL.

When I actually began paying attention, I noticed many more fountains/statuettes and topiaries than I had realized existed before.

I had never paid attention to the horseshoe and hoof prints in the ground of Frontierland until a couple of years ago.

Also, I had never noticed all the different bathroom signs around DL and DCA until 2008 or so. Those are easy to ignore, but they are hidden gems too! About 75% of them seem to be themed to the specific land in which they are located or the attraction which they are near, so there are little bug people on the bathroom doors in A Bug's Land, or little aliens on the doors in Tomorrowland, etc. So cool - and the more I look for them, the more I spot!

And, of course, I love that all of the plants, bushes and trees around Tomorrowland are either vegetables, fruits or herbs of some kind. I had known they were there, but I hadn't quite realized how many different edible plants/bushes/trees there were around TL until I really began looking more closely. So there were far more veggies, fruits and herbs than I was ever aware of.

On our last DLR trip in December, while waiting to get on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, my friend and I were pointing out all the different varieties of toads and frogs inside, in the queue area (not just on the walls, but in the bookcase and all over). We had never realized there were so many different ones.

I love that element of being able to go to DLR and always have that discovery or revelation where you say, "Wow! I didn't know that was there!"

You've just given me a whole list of things to look for the next time I go to DL! I, too, didn't know about the weather vanes or think to look up for them until I saw people posting pictures of them here on the Dis.

Wow, that's cool!! Something to look for next time I go...

On a related note, my friends and I stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms at DLH. They have this great picture on the wall that is a collage of little parts of DL--for instance, a close-up of a ride sign or figure. My DD likes to take pictures of things in DL from odd angles, so my friends and I decided to combine the two things. We took a bunch of pictures of things either very close up, things you wouldn't normally notice (or take pictures of), interesting details, etc. We're going to make our own collages. I got a cool shot of the top of Astro Orbiter with a cloudy sky above where the sun is trying to come through, and it turned out looking like the sky is lightening up where the tip of the A.O. touches it. I never noticed that effect when I took the picture because I'm the world's worst photographer and have no eye for what would make a good picture. I just get lucky sometimes.

I cropped all my photos and made them black and white. The only down side is that you don't get to choose where you want the photos, the computer does it for you. Oh well. It's only $8.99 so I'm going to give it a try!

I cropped all my photos and made them black and white. The only down side is that you don't get to choose where you want the photos, the computer does it for you. Oh well. It's only $8.99 so I'm going to give it a try!
