Hello all!!

I'm in need of a wee bit of help...my DS is going to be 9 and out eats me. I know that he has to eat off the kids menu at the TS we eat at but I'm hoping for some suggestions with CS that he can eat a little more for lunch.

Any ideas??

Oh dear, that is an issue. We went last month, and my DS9 who is a bird like eater barely had enough to eat. The kids meals are dreadful at best -- teeny tiny pizzas, 4 nuggets, smaller hot dogs... I agree with the poster who suggested ordering YOUR meal with an eye on what could be shared with your child.

One meal (Pinocchio Village Haus) I asked the server if my son had to order off the kids menu and she said no (which I KNOW is against the rules, but she said we could...) so he got the meatball sub. He was starvin' that day, and had had enough of the bad kids meals that I was prepared to pay out of pocket for it if I had to, but she let it slide. It doesn't hurt to ask.

I just made sure to bring snacks with us to the park, but at the end of the day, we were there for the Disney experience, not the food, so I didn't let it bother us.

Just tell Disney that your son is 10. Then he can order off the adult menu. Of course it will cost you the adult dining plan price.

Flame Tree at AK, Sunshine Seasons and Tangeriene at Epcot, Fairfax Fare at HS, Cosmic Rays and Columbia Harbour House at MK all have combo meals or really large portions on the adult menu. If you and DH each order one of the big meals and then DS9 gets his kid meal, you should have some to share with him.

Wolfgang Puck at DTD also has larger meals. Pepper Mkt at Coronado Springs has large portions as well.

You may want to make as many of your TS meals as you can buffets, so he can fill up on those meals.

I can only assume that you are on the DDP.

If not, order him as much as you want anywhere you want. Hey if you want a kids meal, go for it

That's what I was wondering. Are you on the DDP? If so, I like Bill Sear's idea about switching meals. I'm an adult woman and sometimes order a kids' macaroni and cheese meal.

Well, good luck and have a nice time.

:)

When my daughter was 9 we called and asked if we could upgrade her to an adult and they said sure!! So we paid to upgrade and her to an adult and it was wonderful! If you think the food won’t be enough, look at the menus and see if he’d like to get adult meals. My DD is an adventurous eater so she loved having so much to try. My oldest DS will be happy with his hot dogs and mac n cheese till he’s 20!!!!!

It sounds like the dining plan simply isn't a great decision for your family! Have you crunched the numbers on it? If your son would prefer to eat off the adult menu, your options are to pay to upgrade him or ditch the plan altogether and pay out-of-pocket. I suggest doing some math based on how much you'll think he will eat. Don't just blindly accept the dining plan because it's being advertised as "free." The first rule of Disney is that nothing is really free. ;)

I would crunch the numbers as well, but we two other kids who might eat kids meals...you may be alright

As others said, for the TS meals, consider buffets so that he can eat what he wants

You can always share food

Go to the sticky in the Dining Plan subforum and look at the places that do not have a kids meanu at all (so he can get an adult menu)

Yes we are on the dining plan...we've done the math that we wouldn't be able to afford the trip without it. We are doing CRT one day and also Chef Mickey's.
I'm thinking that I will check for the places that don't have kids meals or as someone said go to the places where the meals are HUGE so we can just share.
Thanks for the help!!:)

Don't forget buffets.

Also don't forget about your snack credits!! Maybe a side item using a snack credit can help supplement the meal for him. Even let him have your snack credits if you aren't a big eater.

Also, when you look at the CS menus, find the places that have a "fixings bar" of some sort for your burgers or tacos, makes it easier to load up on the veggies and make a meal more filling.

Apparently CS meals credits are lumped together with the adults...basically they dont keep track of which is kids and which is adults. So kids can order an adult CS meal. But i have heard of some CM's telling the customers otherwise when they do catch them doing this. Im guessing those CM's havent been informed properly. To be safe, i'd go up to the counter alone and order for the both of you. lol

This is not 100% true. The rule on the dining plan is that you must order off the kids menu if there is one available. While the credits are lumped together, your card will say how many adults and how many kids are on the plan. You can not, by Disney's rules, order more adult meals then are on your card and use credits for them. As a PP mentioned, sometimes you may get some pixie dust, but this is not the norm and should not be counted on.

I really like both of these ideas!!! I did forget about the snacks!! I think with that and the "fixings bar" he will be just fine!

Thanks eveyone for the help!!
We are kinda new at this whole thing...DS was only 18mths last trip we made so a lot has changed since then.
