Littering

What would you do if you saw someone litter?

  • ignore the whole thing?

  • pick up the trash yourself?

  • tell the offender to pick up their own trash?

  • other? (what would "other" be?)

Hi everyone ~

I was just over at the CB :scared1: and I found someone talking about how on their last visit to WDW (just two weeks ago), they found the parks to be filthy, the CM's rude, yada, yada, yada. Anyway, one person posted that when she see's someone littering, she picks up their trash and throws it away. Although I find it great that she will pick up the offender's trash, I believe it doesn't really solve the initial littering problem. What we do when we see someone litter is politely tap them on the shoulder and say "excuse me, but I think you just dropped something", while pointing to the litter. It has been our experience that once we point out the trash and the fact that someone "called them on it", 9 times out of 10 they will pick up their own trash and throw it away themselves.

Sooo, this leads me to my poll. What do you do? Do you ~
a - ignore the whole thing?
b - pick up the trash yourself?
c - tell the offender to pick up their trash?
d - other? (what would "other" mean?)

d. other, we turn to eachother and exclaim PIGS.

I "stoop & scoop". As much as I would like to chastise someone for being so careless, alas, I am not going to change them in a 5 or 10 second confrontation.

Some people are simply "trashy". (Pun intended)

I would just pick up the trash. I don't want to have a confrontation with a another guest, and the CMs have it hard enough as it is.

I live in New York....:rolleyes1

Unless we're talking about a midget..and it can't be any tough guy midget...more along the lines of Dopey, Happy, or Bashful..that kind of thing..I'm not askin' them to pick up anything.

Yeah...I'm gonna ask someone to pick up their trash....and they're gonna...

a. kick my ***

b. kick my ***

c. kick my *** again.

If its trash being thrown on the ground at Disney......I just paid up to $75 to get into the park....I aint picking the trash up for them. Should people litter..NO.

Should Disney make sure that litter is taken care of right away on their property? Hell Yeah they should.

If a car passes my street and I see a mcdonalds bag fly out the window....you better believe I might just go ahead and pick it up...dont want my neighborhood trashed...but they better not let me see what house they are pulling into...because with 7 people in my house...Ive got enough garbage on any given day to burry their front porch.

I picked some up just today.....stupid trash truck went flying down the hill and had a bunch of packing material blow out. GRRRR.

If in my neighborhood, I pick it up...then let my dog poop in their yard.

I usually pick it up...try to set an example at least for my kids.

If it's a dirty diaper or something biohazard, NOOOOOOO!

I have a true hatred for scumb who think our lives are their personal garbage cans.
These scumbs must have trash cans at home ??? or their own yard to throw the garbage on ??? or could use the trash cans that are at EVERY SINGLE gas station in the world ??? or in any public building in America ??? or at their own job they work at ???

Well, you get my feelings,,,I hate those scumbaggers !!

In my younger days I would have pointed out the fact that they had "dropped" something. Now, I would just pick it up and comment loudly about what pigs they are. Guess I'm not as brave as I used to be....

Oh you're plenty brave..... You just know better!

Seriously..in this day and age....you just never know what some lunatic might do. It doesn't pay to get confrontational over a piece of trash.

I write them a Ticket and MAKE them go pick it up!!

But thats when I am at work....

Only if you're well-armed, Frank. Otherwise you might get a bad case of "litter rage." Ain't society wonderful sometimes? :confused3

Well, I am non-confrontational by birth, so telling someone they dropped something isn't likely to happen. I would pick it up, unless it's just too gross, but I do always have hand sanitizer with me so I'm not too awfully afraid of that. I mean, not as afraid as I'd be actually pointing it out to the offender. :rolleyes1

I'm the only one who said tell them to pick up their trash...I would only do that in actuality if I could "take on him/her". Just Kidding! But I would say something like: "Excuse me, Ma'am/Sir, you dropped something." And if their response is, "it's trash." Then I would point them to the trashcan and if that doesn't gitter done then I'll just do the "d. other, we turn to each other and exclaim PIGS"..

I can vouch for the fact that Ami has a well-stocked pharmacy in her handbag! :lmao: One of the most organized people I have ever met!!

Nope, you're not the only one. That is exactly what I do and have done. Maybe I'm just lucky, but so far no one has assaulted me, and I have yet to run into someone that gets angry. Usually their response is surprise/embarrassment and they pretend they didn't realize they had littered, but like I said, 9 times out of 10, they pick up their own trash. (The 1 out of 10 jerk just pretends not to hear me and keeps walking or says something like "that's why we have trash collectors").

Do I think that a piece of trash is worth getting hurt over? Heck no. But, I'm sick and tired of people just not giving a dang and thinking they can do whatever, wherever, whenever without any consequence.

I would like to tell them to pick up their trash but these days you really got to watch what you say to other people. Back in the day before someone would pull a gun on you for looking at them funny I would have said hey pick up your trash. These days I would probably just pick it up.

Littering is such a lazy thing to do and there is no excuse. There is escpecially no excuse in Disney. Walt figured people will hold on to trash for so many feet and put trash cans in those spots. I guess people are every lazier these days and need them moved a little closer. Geez! :headache:

I hate seeing people drive down the road and throw stuff out...and it makes me insane to see a family come to the same movie I've come to see and when they leave Mom and Dad just drag the kids out and leave all their trash sitting where they were watching that family movie!!! What kind of example is that????..and like many of the others...I'd just pick it up and throw it away...but if I could I'd do it in a way they saw me pick up after them so it would atleast shame them so that they MIGHT think before they do that again!
