Saw a news article today (sorry, I didn't think to save the link, and now I can;t find it
) that says a company is trying to market a voice recognition system to listen in on VOIP phone calls, and then direct ads based on your conversations to your computer.
I have ATT CallVantage VOIP, and overall am pleased with the service, however, I want the SAME privacy on my calls as I would get with traditional land lines, especially since I am paying for the service. Note that no VOIP provider has actually endorsed or committed to this advertising.
However, IF a company was to provide completely free service, unlimited, free long distance, and a dedicated incoming phone number etc., I may be tempted to try it...but as long as I am paying for the service, I don't want anyone listening in on my private conversations, and collecting data for advertising.
According to the article, the advertising company is offering a trial...free US phone calls if you agree to the monitoring. You need a earpiece/microphone (preferable a headset) to be eligible for the trial. I won't be signing up.
Is this something you would do?
