LISTEN TO "3" NOW!!! Britney Spears's new song, "3" to cause controversy???

In defense of those offended by the reference to Peter, Paul and Mary. The offense coming from feeling these three have been insulted. Do you not get offended if someone you feel strongly about is insulted? Same thing. No reason to start throwing insults about those with faith.

Why would I personally feel offended if someome I feel strongly about is insulted? I could certainly see something as offensive to the person they insulted but that really has no impact on my personal feelings. What you may see as an insult is nothing more than a valid question asking if your belief in these things is so strong, how could you let what someone who doesn't share your beliefs matter to how you personally feel. Or maybe I should have just asked why are you personally offended because I just don't get it :confused3

All I have to say is that ten minutes ago I would never have heard of this song (I mostly listen to Hair Nation on XM, lol) but NOW I am gonna buy it from iTunes!

You'd think by now that people who don't want you to hear/see something they find offensive would just not mention said offensive media - not dare to speak of it, even in whispers. It usually backfires, no?

Anywho, different strokes, right?

Yeah, the performance was pretty amazing. Her voice was spot on. It's sad she never sings live because she CAN sing. I wish she would stop dancing around and do more performances like that!

So let me get this straight - you're bothered by it...AND advertising it? :confused3

You want to talk about raunchy songs? Muskrat Love.

Official Cover art!!!

If this is the cover, I have a feeling the insider lied about the lyrics seeing that the cover is actually cute. Hopefully the real lyrics match the cover.

It is offensive (not that it bothers me just because I don't waste time thinking about what pop/rock stars do and sing about) but in the grand scheme of offensive lyrics in the modern music world, probably not so much, don't forget there are bands out there advocating out and out satanism and many other more disturbing things IMO than Britney. She's just trying to get attention because her career is taking a down turn.

In a funny side note, you should post a link to that dude/transgender person or whatever they were on youtube screaming about LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!! That was funny, it would fit in here. :lmao:

The cover isn't bad...nothing like the cover art of the 80's but I may be a little biased!!

However, has anyone else noticed that almost all celebrities ( women ) stand pigeon toed? This drives me crazy.

She just finished the seg leg in the US of her world tour last night, and heads over to Australia for her 6 sold out shows in November, which will be taped in 3D and will possibly get a limited release to the theaters. 86 sold out or near sold out shows since March. Also she earned a number 1 hit and a number 2 hit and a top 20 hit with her last album. That hassn't happened since Baby One More Time! That's not exactly taking a down turn, its more like her actually working instead of being an idiot and shaving her head and clubbing. What's funny is that when she is working and being successful, her career is going down, but when she is getting the bad publicity she is working harder.

I hink this is getting released because she is taking a break from preforming for a month, meaning no TV preformances, and the record company is going to hope the controversy alone helps the song hit the top.

She also had one of the top 10 albums of the year selling over 2 million in the US (thats what I heard, might be false, so don't quote me on that) and

So if someone insults your husband, child or parent; you don't care? I don't think that what Britney Spears says or doesn't say is going to change a belief or a feeling; but if that is in fact what her lyrics say and what they mean, then she has degraded some people who are very important to some folk's belief system. And that makes what she is (possibly) saying offensive to them.

As I said, I am not personally offended by what she says in this supposed song or any other. I learned long ago not to get all up in the air about some silly song.

Well I stand corrected on the status of her career, I obviously don't keep up at all, so I was speaking out of ignorance, just what I pick up here and there. I obviously don't listen to her. I do admit I look at her when she happens to be on TV when I'm just flipping through something, just because I think she is sexy.

But controversy in lyrics has been around forever, remember the Beatles, Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds. "We're bigger than JC" which was kind of taken out of context, but caused great controversy, John Lennon at the time, didn't mean he thought they were bigger than JC, just that all the attention they were getting it seemed that way, but it caused great controversy at the time. And that was just the early days, this has gone on and on and on.

Then there are the gangster rappers that use the B word or N word every other line and advocate shooting cops etc., there is a lot of offensive lyrics out in the public if you want to look for them.

Doesn't bother me at all as I don't get offended easily.

I can take her music or leave it. Spears, or for that matter, any musician is not important enough to me for me to get twitterpated over their lyrics. Since I do not value what they say, they cannot offend me in any way. They cannot attack my values because I just don't care what they think. I am secure enough in my beliefs that I can laugh at some pop tart's attempt at shock value. They could say what they wanted about my mother or my religious symbols without any reaction from me because I just don't value their opinion. Good ol' Eleanor said "nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent." She was a wise lady. If you are offended by some pop tarts lyrics, you are choosing to allow the singer to offend you.

However, I support her 100% in her right to say what she wants, even if it might make my blood boil (which this doesn't). Upholding our freedoms in this country is far more important to me than being offended by some lyrics. She has the inalienable right to sing it and I have the inalienable right to turn the station or just not buy it.

What is not laughable is when the highly offended try to impose morals and values by attempting to censor rather than just invoking their right to change the station.

Somebody asked why people worry when others claim to be offended by something. Nobody here has even suggested it, but we all know the groups out there that try to censor songs, books, etc. Rather than invoking their privilege of just changing the station and not listening, these radical groups have decided that if they are offended, nobody should listen or read the offensive material. Harry Potter was a prime example. Rather than just telling your kid they couldn't read the book, the groups tried to keep my kids from reading it by having it removed from schools and libraries. Luckily, the sane prevailed as they will over yet another "shocking" song. BTW, as mentioned, shocking their listeners has been going on forever; this is not new to Spears :rotfl2:

It's not something you would know unless you follow her, so no harm at all. Just informing you, lol. When Britney is doing what she should be doing you can tell because the media dosn't give a crap. They only care about bad girl Britney. Bad mother, head shaving, losing custody, poor sales, and honestly, the last time she was a major figure in the news was when that was all happening.

They won't tell you that she legally has 50% of the custody of her kids, or that she has then more like 70% of the week because her and Kevin are on good terms. That's not juicy enough. So yeah, I don't blame you for thinking she is failing.

I'm really sorry if I came off as harsh!

Not caring about some derogatory remark about my husband is not the same as being personally offended by a remark directed to him, about him. Sure I wouldn't think too highly of the person who said it, and I would think that his remarks were offensive, but it doesn't mean they offended ME, they would have personally offended my husband.

I guess we just look at it differently then. If someone insults a person close to me, they insult me. Especially my husband or my kids. I would be very offended by it.

This isn't one of the things that bother me, but I do get offended by derogatory things being said about those who are a part of my belief system; so I can understand those that are saying this is offensive to them. Maybe not believing in the same things makes it hard to understand. Doesn't make anyone wrong, just means they feel differently about something that you do.

Not at all. I do think Britney is very sexy, except when she was going through her head shave moment. But I just don't think she is all that in the voice department. For girl singers I prefer Christina or Lady Gaga, but I don't really buy their stuff, its typically not what I listen too which is more along the line of Foo Fighters, Shinedown, stuff like that.
