In defense of those offended by the reference to Peter, Paul and Mary. The offense coming from feeling these three have been insulted. Do you not get offended if someone you feel strongly about is insulted? Same thing. No reason to start throwing insults about those with faith.
Why would I personally feel offended if someome I feel strongly about is insulted? I could certainly see something as offensive to the person they insulted but that really has no impact on my personal feelings. What you may see as an insult is nothing more than a valid question asking if your belief in these things is so strong, how could you let what someone who doesn't share your beliefs matter to how you personally feel. Or maybe I should have just asked why are you personally offended because I just don't get it
