Hi there, as a WDW Vet and with a few DL stays under my belt, I was fortunate to get a week of work in LA so of course I had to extend my work trip by one day into the weekend to see the holiday decorations at DL/DCA. Although I had been there before, it was just so crowded I wasn't able to prioritize my attractions. So now I'm off to Anaheim for a full on family vacation with a 5 day park hopper pass mid March. Please help us prioritize our Must See Attractions, list your top 5 here! Thanks!

DCA:
Radiator Springs Racers (RSR)
Carthay Lounge (30s era bar, classic drinks, bartenders are excellently trained. There is nothing like it in WDW.)
Soarin (same as WDW but the tech has already been upgraded so the screen has a better picture than WDW)
Screamin'
World of Color (not one of my favorites but most everybody else enjoys it- including the rest of my family lol)

DL:
Indy
Matterhorn
Big Thunder Runaway Train (it was completely renovated a couple years ago and is noticeably better than the Magic Kingdom version IMHO)
Fireworks show from Main St (the updated technology is great)
Storybook Canal Boats

Favorite rides/attractions are very subjective - but here goes our:

DCA: Screamin, Soarin, RSR, TSMM and ToT.

DL: Space, Indy, Star Tours, Peter Pan and Pirates.

As for shows, we love the fireworks in DL but have zero interest in WOC!

DL: Matterhorn, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Small World

DCA: Tower of Terror, Midway Mania, RSR, Grizzly River, Screamin'

In Disneyland:
Indy!!
Splash Mountain
Star Tours
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Pirates of the Carribean

In DCA:
Tower of Terror!!
Radiator Springs Racers
Toy Story Midway Mania
Soarin
Grizzly River Run

And there are so many more to enjoy!! I can't believe I've never made it on Storybook Land Canal Boats yet!! This trip for sure, at dusk!

Have fun planning!

Wow, I am surprised these lists vary so much! There are some listed as favorites that we never ride (e.g., never been on Grizzly, haven't been on Pirates for 20+ years, didn't like Indy when we rode it 4 years ago, etc.). I had a hard time narrowing it down to favorites but tried to focus on what we would be happy to do more than once. There are certainly rides I make sure to do, but once is enough (e.g., Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Dumbo, Tea cups, Bug's Land rides, Ariel's Undersea Adventure, Tower of Terror, etc.). If Star Tours didn't make me feel motion sickness, I'd go more often but I just go on Screamin' or Space Mountain more often.

DCA: RSR, Toy Story, Soarin', Screamin', and Goofy's Sky School (my DD9 loves this ride and we go 3-4 times every trip!)
DL: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Soundsational Parade (my kids and I love watching this every trip!), Big Thunder, and Buzz

Disneyland:
1-fireworks.
2-Pirates of the Carribean
3-space mountain
4-Indiana jones
5-big Thunder rail road

California Adventure:
1-tower of terror
2-WOC
3-screamin
4-Radiator Springs
5-soarin

Dizzyland ;)

* Haunted Mansion
* Pirates of the Caribbean
* Jungle Cruise
* Indy Jones
* BTMRR
* The Matterhorn

DCA:

* Radiator Springs Racers
* Tower of Terror (I only do walkthrough) lol
* Little Mermaid
* The merry go round (Yes, I said that Lol)

My list ends there, because I haven't gone on anything else. :faint: lmao

Disneyland:
(1) Paint the Night Parade
(2) Haunted Mansion
(3) Big Thunder Mtn Railroad
(4) Hyperspace Mountain
(5) Star Tours

DCA:
(1) Tower of Terror
(2) Screamin'
(3) The Little Mermaid
(4) Grizzly River Run
(5) Radiator Springs Racers

My answers would change depending on the ages of any kids in your family, but for ours (family of 4, two boys 7 and 8) it would be:

Disneyland:
Buzz Lightyear
Star Tours
Pirates of the Caribbean
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain

California Adventure:
Soarin'
Radiator Springs Racers
Toy Story Mania
Grizzly River Run
Pixar Parade w/ dinner at Carthay afterwards

As stated above, these lists are highly subjective, but here goes:

in DL:
1. Royal Swing Ball -- every Saturday night at PFF, different live band each time, one of the reasons we are APs.
2. Pianist at Refreshment Corner -- love the different pianists on different days, watching the interaction with the audience, musical chairs with Alice and the Mad Hatter.
3. Peter Pan -- one of the best dark rides ever, Tony Baxter is absolutely right about this one!
4. Fireworks -- no one does fireworks better than Disney!
5. All the different live musical groups, e.g. the DL Band, the Hook & Ladder Co. (so tight!), Dapper Dans, The Royal St. Bachelors, Jambalaya Jazz, and so many others -- excellent musicians and wonderful audience interaction.

in DCA:
1. Music, music, music -- Five and Dime, Mariachi Divas, The Ellis Island Boys (glorious!) -- so much to hear and enjoy!
2. CCR -- love the main dining room with the lovely murals
3. Neon lighting on Route 66 -- dancing to the Sh'boom song while the lights come on is magical.
4. Riding RSR at night -- so fun and immersive.
5. WOC -- while we don't like WOC Celebrate! as much as we loved the original show, WOC is still stunning to watch.

And, lastly, because it's on our list for both parks: drinking hot chocolate from Starbucks while closing out the parks -- so romantic!

DCA
1. evening night glow at RSR or least seeing RSR at night
2.Crush, one of the few places were you are not hanging on for dear life!!!
3.watching unprepared folks load with you on GRR
4.night time walk behind GRR
5.sitting on a bench...of all things...and watching a parade, with little investment of time!!!!

Disneyland
1. Exploring the Main Street train station, no reason to rush, that parked train is going nowhere!!
2. Exploring the Locomotive parked at Main street station, that photo op is going nowhere!!
3.Exploring NOS for additional music and character features to anchor folks.
4. Exploring anchored water vessels of US history
5. Exploring for a spot for the perfect photo op of the third ship anchored in NOS and watch with amazement of the all the folks who thank you for showing them something in Disneyland that they have never seen in all their visits.

Here are my favorites...(in no particular order)

Disneyland:
  • Haunted Mansion (both the original and the HMH overlay)
  • Space Mountain (currently in HyperSpace Mountain form)
  • Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
  • Disneyland Forever Fireworks (from Main Street!)
  • Matterhorn (although, I wish it was a little less "rough")
  • Eating (I know, not an attraction or show...)
DCA:
  • Radiator Spring Racer
  • Toy Story Midway Mania
  • Soarin'
  • The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure
  • Street Entertainment (e.g., Red Car Trolley News Boys, Five & Dime)

Disneyland "Must-Do's"

1. Indiana Jones Adventure
2. Space Mountain (especially when Hyperspace Mountain)
3. Big Thunder Mountain (especially at night!)
4. Haunted Mansion
5. Pirates of the Caribbean

California Adventure "Must-Do's"

1. Radiator Spring's Racers (also especially at night!)
2. Toy Story Midway Mania
3. Tower of Terror
4. California Screamin'
5. Grizzly River Run

Side note: Highly recommend all the night time shows (World of Colour, Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever) as well as Mickey and the Magical Map show.

Since most put their favorite rides I have my different sort of list

Disneyland-
1 - Mickey Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar in Nee Orleans Square

2- Corn Dogs from the Red Wagon on Main Street

3- Finding the Special 60th Anniversary pressed pennies all around the park

4- Checking out the Lille Bell at the Main Street Station

5.- watching the clock at Small World on the hour

California Adventure

1- enjoying a glass of wine at a table at Tasting Terrace right by the "street" for the best view of the PixarPlay Parade
2 - having Habenero Margaritas and lobster nacho at the Cove Bar while watching the kids on California Screamin'

3- Learn to draw characters at the Animation Academy

4 - Spicy Duck wing appetizer at Carthy Restaurant

5- kids taking a break and playing on the redwood Creek Challenge Trail

I would have had watching the neon go on in Cars Land like in the movie but someone else listed that. It actually made me tear up a bit the first time it was so cool (cars land itself is awesome!)

Not necessarily in order:

DCA

  • Radiator Springs Racers
  • World of Color
  • Carthay Circle Lounge (for drinks Followed by a meal at the restaurant)
  • CA Screamin'
  • Cove Bar (for their lobster nachos or Surf & turf nachos (lobster and trip tip)

DL
  • Paint the Night Parade
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Mickey and the Magic Map
  • Indy
  • Space Mountain (Such a different experience than the one in WDW)

I am also a WDW vet but have been lucky enough to have been to DR twice now (third time will be next month!). As a WDW vet of course you want to hit the rides not at WDW or the ones that are markedly different. So my list kinda reflects that.

DLR -
Paint the Night parade - it is the MSEP on steroids. I love the MSEP and was super excited to watch PtN, it did not disappoint.
Pirates - longer, more detailed than the one at WDW.
Mr Toad - was very upset when they took it out of WDW so this one is more of a personal preference.
Indiana Jones - so well themed! The queue, the ride, really liked this ride. It was down for most of our stay.
Haunted Mansion - granted I've only been during Halloween, I love the NBC overlay.

DCA -
Oswald - near the park entrance. I disbounded as him and he and his handler got so excited. I guess he gets little love in the park.
RsR - yes, it is as good as everyone says.
Grizzly River Run - so much better than Kali River Rapids. It feels like an actually a ride, not like they just dump water on you.
WoC - I am not much for shows, especially if you have to wait forever for a good spot, but this one was good. Different than any at WDW.
Mater's Junkyard Jamboree - DD loved this ride, she could not stop laughing.
bonus - Soarin' - yeah it is the same but it is a different experience when you are actually in California ;)

DCA is a beautiful park. Carthay Circle has great food (the apps alone make an awesome meal) and the dining room is classic Hollywood. The Cozy Cones in Carsland have mac n cheese served in a bread cone (yum).

At DLR I inhaled several beignets (and then went to DtD and got some more at the Jazz Kitchen). Lunch at Blue Bayou is a must do (even if just once since it is not cheap). Sat by the water while PotC boats go by.

At DtD - Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen had the second best (after Carthay) food we had all trip. Sat outside in beautiful weather and watched Halloween party goers go by in their costumes.

Ok.....lol.....I forgot I took passage upon GRR too.
It was during the day, for I didn't care to possibly dare to bare a damp tushie during the night, if it was going to be on the oh so cool side. Lmao
:faint:
