So I would like to buy seasons of old shows that are wholesome and good for the whole family to watch. Can you help me out? My older kids are 9 and 12 btw.

Not sure what your personal definition of wholesome is or what you would consider off limits, but some that our family enjoys (ranging in age from 60s to 8):

The Muppet Show - jokes can be dated and might need to be explained to kids; depending on your definition of wholesome you may not approve of some guests (for instance Alice Cooper)
Bewitched - again, it's dated and some things might need to be explained to kids; not always the most gender equitable or thoughtful on sensitive matters if that matters to you
Boy Meets World - occasional minor toilet humor, mention of "birds and bees" in later seasons
The Wonder Years - dated, but since it was a period piece, it can also offer a good history lesson to kids since it is intentionally dated
Good Luck Charlie (currently on Disney Channel) - has some minor toilet humor and general kids making mischeif

I LOVE LOVE LOVE 80's family sit coms
Growin Pains
Whos the Boss
Mr. Belvedere
Just the 10 of us
Webster
Family Ties

Do a search I am sure you will find TONS of them!

Andy Griffith - there have been bible studies written using these
Beverly Hillbillies - my son's personal favorite right now - he is 9

I don't want anything that is too boy/girl crazy. Ive never seen Little house on the prairie and thought of buying a few DVDs but I read somewhere that one episode has rape?! I'm guessing Brady bunch is boy crazy right? I'm a child of the eighties so I dont remember seeing some of these. I don't mind if they are old though!

I watched a lot of little house on the prarie and certainly don't remember that! I'm sure if it's in there it's not shown but possibly alluded to somehow. I do remember in some of them kids were hit or yelled at by the parents. I have to imagine it's a reasonable recreation of what life was like then. People die, one daughter goes blind eventually. I wouldn't shy away from a great classic show because one episode might concern you. I'm sure you could find out what episode that is and prescreen it.

Yes there was an episode of Little House that dealt with rape. But overall, an excellent family show! I don't consider the Brady Bunch to be boy/girl crazy.
A lot of the other suggestions here are great ones!

Another vote for Growing Pains, also I Dream of Jeannie, Newhart (the second one from the 80's), Cosby Show.

One more comment, The Wonder Years, my absolute favorite, is not available on DVD.

DD5 and DSS10 are totally into The Addams Family and The Munsters on Netflix right now. They really enjoy both of them. DSS10 really likes watching The Cosby Show too. I always loved watching The Dick Van Dyke show with my mom on Nick at Nite when I was younger.

Do you have Netflix? It is available there. Really surprised and kind of sad that it hasn't made it to DVD, it's one of my all time favorites too!

We are enjoying the Wonder Years on Netflix as well! They have every season. How about 7th Heaven? That is an awesome show. Love it. Plus another vote for Growing Pains. Punky Brewster is cute, too. So is Diff'rent Strokes. The Patty Duke show was pretty good, too.

I had completely forgotten about Just the 10 of us, I liked that show!

We also watched Alf, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life - this one probably geared more towards girls.

I loved Little House on the Prairie as a kid, I don't remember anything on there being traumatic. I  Michael Landon, he seemed like the perfect dad.

I was going to suggest 7th Heaven too.

I've read that the issue w/ The Wonder Years going to DVD has to do with the background music used throughout the years. Releasing it on DVD creates a lot of copyright issues.

As far as the rape episode in The Little House on the Praire it happens in one of the last seasons. Also they don't show anything but the girl being grabbed by a masked person. Then they flash to her getting home and her dad figures out what happened. Just didn't want you to think it was graphic.

Don't forget:

ALF
The Cosby Show
Family Ties
Fraggle Rock
Punky Brewster
Head of the Class
Gimme A Break
Small Wonder
Out of this World
Silver Spoons
Webster
Who's The Boss

I actualy have every single episode on my DVR, it was aired on the Hub network last year and my dd and I watched and kept each and every one! Before that I ws tempted to buy a pirated copy from eBay. The music rights are what has kept it from being released on DVD. Not sure why it's different than streaming it with the music, but there must be something.

My girl's absolute favorite is Get Smart -- the 13 year old will start laughing sometimes before Max even says his line because you know it's coming!

Their second favorite is I Dream of Jeanie.

So I would like to buy seasons of old shows that are wholesome and good for the whole family to watch. Can you help me out? My older kids are 9 and 12 btw.

The first show that comes to mind for me is "Road to Avonlea", a Canadian show from the early-mid 90s: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098900/. It came out when I was 8, and I still love watching it to this day!
