List of things to watch before heading to US

I am putting together a list of DVD we should watch before heading to US. I know there are a lot of movies/ shoes my kids have never seen that have rides based on them at US. We have pretty much seen everything Disney has made so that was easy on our trip to the mouse. Is there one already done on this list before I do all the work? If no response I will be posting one soon.

Not really park related....

We are going to watch Forest Gump before we go. the kids never saw it and it has been years since I did. Only because we'll probably eat at Bubba Gump's one night!

I have nothing to add, but OP, I just want to say that you are smart, smart, smart to ask this! We started out with E.T. and spent the whole time with DS (almost 9) closing his eyes and being very afraid. We kept trying to convince him that E.T. is a lovely heartwarming movie, but he wouldn't believe us. Totally wish we would have watched it first! We went on to do MIB, Harry Potter/Forbidden Journey, Spiderman, and other with no fears from him because he knew the story lines and knew what to expect. He did love Jurassic Park even though he hasn't seen it, though. But E.T. - that freaked him right out.

Back to the Future series

I love the Back to the Future series (At least 1&2, 3 is just meh) don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure if it's that big of a deal for the OP to watch it for going to Universal, as the ride is gone (Sadly, because of the Simpsons). I do know that the Delorian is at the studios park, and Doc Brown occasionaly shows up on his bike, but other than that, zip. The Nick characters are questionable too since the Nicktoon Blast ride is gone.

Really can't think of anything to add to the lists.
I could think of shows/movies for some of the closed rides, but that wouldn't be much help to the OP. For defunct rides there'd be Jaws, as well as Yogi Bear, the Jetsons, Scooby Doo, and the Hanna-Barbera Wacky Races show, & the Ghostbusters movies. But that's the defunct stuff.

Let's get ages here before we started listing films. I don't think Blues Brothers, Terminator and some of the other films are appropriate for most kids under 12...but that me(for the record my kids have seen both).


Harry Potter you want to focus on Azkaban, and Goblet of Fire mostly...as that's when the Wizarding World really focuses on.

Popeye and Dudley Do-Right movies are fun...but the cartoons give a better gist.
The Spiderman cartoon show would be great (the one from the 90's).
Any of the Hulk films, Fantastic Four.
The Lorax, and any Cat in the Hat cartoons or shows.

The Mummy films with Brandon Fraser

Despicable Me
If you want obscure...try the Sting with Robert Redford (Sting Alley?)
If you want to get really fun, go with the classic Universal monsters..

Lucky for me my youngest is 12. It has been a long time since I saw Blues Brothers and I was trying to recall what was in it that made it an R rated movie. I am fine with language but frown upon nudity.

It's recreated in Universal perfectly, and one of my favorite places.....it's just an alley...but it's amazing.

Blue Brothers has a lot of swearing....but not really too bad.

Terminator should be fine for a 12 year old and even younger if they don't scare easily. I know that my son loved it but he took such movies in stride at a young age.

I just came up with an idea that I thought others might be interested in. Our library system allows you to reserve books and movies online. I've gone out and reserved all of these movies and then suspended each until a set date in the future, each about two weeks apart. (we are going in Dec) That way every few weeks one of these movies will become available for us to watch and I don't have to keep track of a list.

I kind of did the same thing on Netflix. Right now I am trying find a time where all of us can watch The Mummy. The only other one we have been able to watch is Men in Black. I now have two teens with jobs so finding time for us all to get together is next to impossible. I am glad I started now and you are wise to do the same.
