5/18/04:
Breakfast: 1 slice of toast, coffee. I really need to make my breakfast before I leave the house!
Lunch-2 small hamburger patties w/cheese, broccoli, sliced tomato.
Dinner-Burrito in a low carb tortilla. That would make the 3rd time this week I have a burrito! Boy, did I miss those things or what?
Dessert: I know this might sound weird, but I had a couple squirts of whipped cream. Hey, it's allowed on my plan and I didn't have any lc ice cream in the fridge to go with it.
Erin, thanks so much for sharing your story. Unfortunately not much can be done until the person wants to help themselves. Just a fact of life I guess.
Beth, thanks for your expertise on the subject. My husband was diagnosed in his early 20s. He went from only needing oral meds to a sliding scale of two types of insulin in addition to the meds. About 6 years ago he had first pancreatitis attack and almost died and has had 4 attacks since then, all of them putting him in ICU. Fortunately he hasn't had one in about 3 years. Currently he's suffering from diabetic neuropathy which causes him a great deal of pain. He's completely noncompliant and isn't taking any of his meds or checking his BS. He eats and drinks whatever he wants. I've tried begging, nagging, getting angry, being nice, you name it. But like you said, at some point you just have to leave it up to them to make the necessary changes. All you can do is love and support them. It's really hard seeing him deteriorate right before my eyes when he's only 36. Thanks very much for your encourgament though.
