Me: Doing something I never thought I’d do laundry on holiday!
DH: Doing his best to discourage me from any more purchases
DD (18): Doing what she does best .... texting
DS (11): Doing ...... my head in
Wednesday 20th December
Todays itinerary was simple enough a bit of a lie in, late breakfast & some light shopping. I did a little laundry whilst the family slept in (something I have never done before) That’s the trouble with extended stay holidays if you take enough stuff to last the whole 3 weeks there is not a lot of room in the bags for shopping.
Our first stop of the day was Florida Mall. I was very disappointed that it all seemed ‘Christmas free’. There again it shouldn’t have been a shock as the papers & TV were full of the PC ‘To Christmas or Not’ arguments while we were away. We stocked up on all the family favourites from Dylans Candy Bar for the kids stockings. DS had been nagging about getting an American football shirt he eventually decided on a New England Patriots shirt with quarterback Tom Brady’s name on the back (girls if you get chance google him he’s luuuuurvely) It’s probably the most expensive clothing item we have ever bought in the USA at $75 (I thought DH was going to choke!) It’s quite funny because he wore it to the parks a couple of times and men would shout stuff like ‘Go brady yeah’ to DS who was completely oblivious, he only picked the shirt because he liked the colours. DD got several items from American Eagle & Abercrombie & Fitch
From there we moved on to Mall at Millennia which was much more festive & had beautiful grotto for Father Christmas. We stopped off for lunch in their food court (pizza for DS, the rest of us had yummy greek food) and then DH & I split from the kids for a while to pick up a few surprises for them.
We popped back to the hotel to drop off our purchases and headed off to DTD for a stroll around the shops. DS wanted to buy up complete stock of the lego store but eventually settled on something small. We split from the kids again for a while and popped into World of Disney to pick up some small stocking fillers for them.
(DS pulling faces again - I took over 400 pics this holiday and he ruined most of them - He's frowning on this one because I said any more moaning and I'd feed him to the shark!)
Dinner was at the absolutey superb Raglan Road. I cannot rate it highly enough for both the food & atmosphere. Unfortunately I didn’t have the camera with me so haven’t got any pics. We were allocated a table right in the middle of the restaurant very near where the girl dances on the table so had a good all round view & enjoyed the music & dancing very much (although not to DS’s taste he prefers a bit of Blink 182) DH & I shared an appetiser of Chicken Pate with Cranberries & Apricot Chutney followed by Kevs Ham & Cabbage (me), sausage & mash (DH), shepherds pie (DD) & chicken (DS) all absolutely delicious. We passed on desert as we were so full and headed back to the hotel via Ghiradellis where I got a couple of bags of Peppermint Bark squares (have finished last one today whilst writing this)
Thursday 21st December
Well the peasants are staging a revolt today and refusing to get up. Subsequently we are late going down to breakfast and finding a seat and/or any food that hasn’t been prodded by about a million people before us is a problem. I decide to have cereal & yoghurt as at least that can’t be messed with.
We get outside to discover the car is covered in bird poop (I told DH not to park near that tree) it looks like somebody slipped the birds $10 to make as much mess as possible. DH rinses it off with a bottle of water and eventually we are off.
Eventually we arrive at MK and are happy to find it crane free today. As normal we head straight to BTM where we are given one of the queue timer cards. We debate taking it home as a souvenir but decide against it. DH & kids are keen to do Splash but I refuse after getting soaked last week so they decide to give it a miss too and we all head off to POTC and then Haunted Mansion. From there we go round to Toontown for proper look at Mickey & Minnies xmas decorations and then back to Small World & Philarmagic.
We have lunch at the Columbia Harbour house (tuna sandwiches) then stroll over to Main Street for a look at the shops and the afternoon parade. We get FP for Buzz Lightyear then have a quick Pineapple Dole Whip stop before the boys ride the speedway cars. On our FP for Buzz I win much to DS’s disgust. As consolation we agree to ride Stitch with him then have a quick go on the TTA Blue line.
We pop back down Main Street for DS to buy a Stitch clock & some other bits & pieces and we get mint choc & peanut butter fudge squares which we share while watching the show in front of the castle & waiting for Wishes.
Wishes was as lovely as ever. I as usual cried at the bit about ‘If you truly believe’ where Tinkerbelle flew down from the castle. We headed out to the Outback for our Bloomin Onion & steak fix and a bit of TV back at the hotel.
