Lisa's Running Away from Excuses Journey....Please Comment

Whoo hoo~ 100th post on this thread!

Let's see- today I did a shorter run, and worked on a little more speed vs distance. My legs were a little tight from running yesterday, but otherwise ok. I ended up going 1.8 miles in 20:28, for a 11:22 pace. Not too bad, but I really want my next race to be faster- I am doing a 2 miler on May 4, and I was hoping to get under 22 flat, but it isn't looking too good at this point. We will wait and see I suppose.

Keep up the good work, you are doing great! Sorry to hear you had a tough run yesterday, always remember that we always have days like that. The important thing is to forget about it and move on!

Your training is AWESOME, Lisa!

Hope the weather improves soon!

Have a GREAT week!!

You are doing a great job with your training, Lisa!:cheer2: Keep up the good work!

I hope the weather is improving in your neck of the woods.... Here in Ohio, we had a beautiful, sunny day. Really lifted our spirits!:thumbsup2

Have a great week!:cool1:

Thanks everyone for checking in on me....and yes, thankfully the weather has shown quite a bit of improvement over the last few days. Unfortunately, both dh and ds have been sick, so I have been trying to take care of them, and run the house and go to work at the same time. Luckily my second job will be coming to an end here soon, and then I will only have 1 to worry about, which should be a little less stressful.

I have gotten in some running amidst the chaos (just haven't had time to post, lol.) Here is the "rundown......"

4/20: Had a bit of a cold/congestion, so I took it really easy- did 1.2 miles in 14:55, for a 12:25 pace.

4/21: Long run time- I did a different route due to the track being occupied with a soccer tournament- the route had a lot of unexpected hills, and my breathing wasn't too hot from my cold, but I managed 3.1 miles in 40:38, for a 13:06 pace.

4/22: Took off and did some yard work----is that cross training?? lol ;)

4/23: Did 2 miles in 23:42, for an 11:51. Pretty happy with this, because it was really windy today.

4/24: Did a speed workout, so the pacing is a little weird. I did 4 laps on the track total, broken down like this:
Lap 1- medium paced "run"- 2:45
Lap 2- sprint 100m/jog 100 m, sprint 100m/jog 100m- 2:21
Lap 3- sprint 200m / jog 200 m- 2:20
Lap 4- same as Lap 2- 2:20
I walked 200 m between laps 2, 3 and 4, and then finished with a 200 meter walk, and a long stretching time afterwards. I felt pretty good, but felt like I struggled on the recovery times in between.

I hope to maybe do a little cross-training tomorrow- this may call for heading to the gym for the bike, as much as I hate to be inside.

Lisa

Glad to hear the weather is improving in your area! Hope your DH and DS are both feeling better! WTG for getting in all those training sessions despite being busy! That is awesome!

Keep up the good work!!

Just updating; I skipped the gym yesterday, and my run today- ds has a sinus infection, and dh finally went to the dr yesterday after I kept nagging him....turns out he has pneumonia!!! So, I took off work today to take care of both of them. Dh has been mostly sleeping since Sunday, and I have been doing everything at the house, taking care of ds, and still trying to work 2 jobs and get my running in.....I am completely exhausted. The worst part now is that they are both on antibiotics, so about the time they both start feeling better, that is the time I will get sick! Any helpings of pixie dust to keep me healthy are very appreciated.

Good news is that I finally got the camera that I have been dreaming about yesterday, so I am loving getting to learn about that....I even took ds outside today for a couple of test shots :rolleyes1 . The fresh air is good for sinus infections, right??? ;)

Hope everyone else out there is staying healthy!! :wizard:

Well, I have been MIA for a couple days- I didn't end up going to the gym Wednesday as planned; in fact I didn't get to do anything from Wed through Sat- between DH's pneumonia, and ds having a sinus infection, I was taking care of the two of them (plus the dog!) all week, and by the time I finished up every night it was already dark, and I was just simply exhausted.

Today was the first day I got to get out a little bit- I took it fairly easy, and wanted to go for 30 minutes, so I cranked up the tunes and went for it. It was really nice, but very windy, so I felt like I wasn't going very fast. I ended up getting in 2.7 miles in 29:57, for an 11:06 pace! That is faster than usual, so I was pretty happy about that.

I have to figure out a plan this week for training, and then Friday night I am doing a 2 mile race at the local ballpark, which should be a lot of fun! Hopefully I can stay healthy with all these sick-os around me so I can do this race!

 Lisa,

I'm sorry to hear that your DH and your DS have been sick the past few days. :( I hope everyone is feeling much better soon.:goodvibes

That's great that you were able to get a run in today. :thumbsup2

Have a great week!:cool1:

Hey Lisa--I hope your DS and DH are feeling better!!

Good Luck in your race this friday! I can't wait to hear about it!

Keep up the good work!

Well, here we go again- I keep getting behind on my posting. I did a run on Wednesday night. I did a track workout- 2 miles for time. I didn't feel "right"- kwim? My legs just felt fatigued from the start, and my body just didn't want to seem to cooperate. I ended up doing 2 miles in 22:40, for an 11:00 minute pace. Not too bad I guess.

I ended up taking off yesterday because my legs were sore- I don't know what is going on? Maybe just pushing myself too much trying to take care of dh (still recovering) and ds (still has a nasty cough.)

Tonight I have a race- a 2 miler. My quads feel a little sore yet today for some reason, but I hope I won't feel that come race time. I am trying to get the fluids in me today, but my nervous stomach won't let me eat too much. Race starts at the end of the first inning of a 6:35 game. They are stopping the game so we can leave from left field. Should be a fun time!

Well, I will try and report back tonight, but if not I will make sure to check in tomorrow morning!
Lisa

Hey Lisa--I just wanted to drop by and say I hope your 2 miler went well tonight!!! I can't wait to hear your race report!!

Hope you have an awesome weekend!!

Ok, a cut and paste from the events board.....

Well, I did my 2 mile race tonight, and I felt really great about it.

It was the perfect night for a race- we started at the Altoona Curve Baseball Stadium. During the first inning, they had us waiting in an area by third base. After the inning was over, we all went out onto the field to start- we ran down the third base line, behind home plate, out past first base, and out of the ball field and into the neighboring amusement park (Lakemont.) From there it was a couple of loops in the park, and then up hill to the finish.

The start was FAST- everyone took off in a sprint, and I couldn't keep up right from the start. I was in last place right away, and even that was a pace that was fast for me. I felt like I was all by myself on the course until I started getting lapped by some of the 5-mile runners, but they were all cheering me on, which felt great! Then all of a sudden, I could see the finish line in the distance... and it felt like every step I took, they kept moving it further away from me! I realized I was ahead of 1 person, but right before I got to the finish line, she passed me. I just had nothing left. So, there it was- I was a dead last finisher (only by 5 seconds, but still.) I was bummed at first, but then I saw my official time.

I finished today in 21:34. This was my second race ever- my first one was on March 25, and I ran the 2 miles there in 23:38- so I took a full 2:04 off my time! My pace tonight was a 10:47- the fastest time for just 1 mile before this was a 10:52!! This was by far the fastest I had ever run this distance, so I was pretty proud of myself for that. I felt good- tired, but good.

We ended up staying for the rest of the game, and enjoying the beautiful weather. All in all, a great race- one I will definitely do again!

Lisa

PS- I wore my WISH shirt tonight, and had lots of comments on how bright it was, lol. Once the sun started going down a little, that shirt was practically glowing!

PPS- I still got a little bling out of the race- a silver medal for being 2nd in my age group. Granted, there were only 2 of us, but a little bling goes a long way in the motivation to keep working! :thumbsup2
