Lisa's Journal (Life on the "Beach" - Part 2 all the way to goal!)

March 19, 2004 (Friday) Day 110 on the Beach

I am trying to get around to everyone's journals so I'll be brief on my own today. This was a stressful day at work. I'm helping with an attorney that is extremely nice but extremely busy and I ended up working late. Never a good thing and never good on a Friday night when you just want to go home. DH was a sweetie and picked me up so I appreciated that. I wore a pair of slacks to work that had me wondering if they were going to stay up on me for the day. I know I could have worse problems but I depend on my slacks for work and now they are getting too big so off to LB I'll go since I got coupons in the mail today. I also cheated and weighed myself this morning (Saturday). I admit I was very happy with what the scale said but tomorrow is official weigh in day so I'll wait to report what it said and hope it stays the same!

Today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 3 slices of bacon
S: 7 whole almonds
L: tuna salad and Triscuit ww crackers with an orange
S: Dannon light and fit 4 oz. yogurt (strawberry)
D: a grilled bacon cheeseburger on ww bread with mayo, lettuce and tomato with 1/2 cup of no sugar added butter pecan ice cream for dessert

I want to comment on this ice cream. I think they should ban this stuff from off the face of the earth! A friend at work gave me a book of coupons for our local grocer and in it was a coupon for a free 1/2 gallon of Edy's ice cream. We bought the no sguar added but sweetened with splenda butter pecan. Wow! I couldn't even eat 1/2 cup of that stuff. I like things sweet (okay I used to like sweet things a lot) but this stuff is just too sweet. You only need a little. I read on a post on another board that someone eats a spoonful or two and I thought she was crazy but that's about all I think I can stand. I ate 1/4 cup and had a headache from it. Like I said, it's good stuff but you only need a little of it to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM BSS1 ab sculpt this morning and even incorporated some of the advanced moves which has awaken muscles in my stomach that I didn't know existed! Wow!! Feels good though. This makes 10 days in a row that I have exercised! Yeah me! Water level was a 5.0. Very good.

That's a wrap for Friday!

Thanks so much Desiree and Tracy for checking on me. I really appeciate all the support I get from WISH. You guys help make it easier for me to reach my goal. Take care and have a great weekend! :)

Hi Lisa. Just wanted to stop in and say hello. Sounds like you definately need new pants.:teeth: Congratulations. Those victorys are just as important as the scale victorys. Way to go.

Oh, so you're going to have us on pins and needles until tomorrow, huh? You're going to be rolling over that clippie before you know it.:D

I'm sending you a great big hug right back Lisa! Any time there's a major development on my journey or I'm feeling down, the first place I come to is WISH. I count on the fact that I'll get positive feedback from my WISH friends. Thanks so much for your kind words and your support.

I know what you mean about the ice cream. I've been staying away from it for a while now, but I'm going to pick some up tomorrow. I try alternate my weeks when it comes to dessert and this week is ice cream week, woohoo!

Have a great Sunday Lisa. I'll be back tomorrow to see what you post about your weigh in.:D

Your choices for food seem to be right on track. Keep up the good work there. I try not to even buy ice cream for Devyn. I know if it's in the house the temptation would be too great!!!

Good luck with your weigh in today! Sending you lots of good vibes!!

March 20, 2004 (Saturday) Day 111 on the Beach

Guess who has a new 40 pound clippie? Me that's who!!!! I'm so excited that I could almost burst! I lost 2.5 pounds this week and that puts me at 8/10 pounds for the April 1 challenge. I just might make my goal after all. :Pinkbounc :bounce:

I think my body is finally adjusting to all the exercise I do and the heavy weights I use in my FIRM routines. I just try to keep remembering that the more muscle I have the more fat I burn. But I was only losing 1/2 pound to 1-1/2 pounds per week. Hopefully this 2.5 pound loss speaks well for things to come. Although I'm only looking for 1 to 2 pounds per week. Anyway, I'm just happy as you can tell. I have officially lost 42 pounds and have 11 more to go to reach my 10% goal which hopefully will happen before my Disney trip in June.

Today's menu:
B: no breakfast - I slept in
L: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese, 3 small sausage patties and 1/2 bowl of ww flakes with 1% milk
S: an orange and a handful of popcorn
D: grilled chicken salad with 2 spoonfuls of no sugar added butter pecan ice cream for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM BSS1 cardio sculpt and went for 40 minutes of the 55 minute tape. I'm trying to work my up to doing the entire tape on Saturdays. Today makes 11 straight days of exercise. Water was a 3.5. Not too bad for a Saturday.

That's a wrap for Saturday!

RJudy - thanks so much for stopping by and supporting me. I really do appreciate it!

Lisa - I am so glad you had a chance to stop by. I know how hectic your schedule can be. WISH is so important to my success and having WISH buddies like you make this journey so much easier! Someone said today to me that losing this weight must be so hard and I thought about all the support I get here and the delicious foods I eat plus the rush of energy I get from exercising and I realize that as hard as losing weight can be, with all this support behind me, it makes it just a bit easier! Take care!

Desiree - thanks to you for checking on me. I appreciate the good vibes and I hope your Sunday is going well and you get a chance to relax a bit!

lisa, so much has happened since i last had the chance to visit! first off, congrats on the meeting going well! extra congrats on going through your closet, finding some smaller things that fit, and some larger things that will never fit again! :bounce:

that ice cream sounds good. i know that edy's sugar free that i've looked at looks to be points friendly, i should check it out! i have a very hard time stopping at the 1/2 cup serving size, but i'm going to hope that i can since you say you only needed 1/4 cup!

now onto the big stuff...2.5 pounds this week!!! :bounce: brand new shiny 40 pound clippie!!! :Pinkbounc wahooooo! oh lisa, you are such an inspiration! all of your great food choices, your unbelievable commitment to exercise, you are so amazing girl! :hyper: i'm so happy for you that all of your hard work is paying off :jumping3:

i hope you have a great rest of the day today, and a wonderful tomorrow :sunny:

:bounce: :cool1: Congratulations on the 2.5 pound loss this week. All your dedication is really paying off. That clippie looks fabulous on you. I think you will definately make youe 10% goal .
Congrats again, you deserve it!

CONGRATULATIONS!

I hope that you :teeth: all week from all that you've succeeded in doing at the Beach, Lisa.

So now you have a scale victory to go with the clothing victory. Good for you. Makes you want to work that much harder doesn't it?? Keep up the great work.:teeth:

March 21, 2004 (Sunday) Day 112 on the Beach

I wanted to make a quick post to my journal because I'll be hit or miss on the DIS today.

I'm just thrilled DH is working out with me. I think I was so happy yesterday about my weight loss that I forgot to mention he has started working out. He does the exercise bike while I FIRM. It's nice to be on the same eating plan and now it's nice to work out together too. I know we're two saps!

I was at my sister's house last night and she said that she is "jealous" that I'm looking so good. I know she's only kidding though. I have a ton of weight still to lose (95.5 pounds to be exact) so she's not really jealous but she is used to having most of the attention in our family as the thinnest sister so maybe she's worried she might be de-throned one day! :)

Okay, here's the meal plan:
B: 1/2 bowl of ww flakes with 1% milk, 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lc cheese and 3 slices of bacon
S: no snacks today
L: 1 cheesehot dog (no bun) and a handful of popcorn
D: T-bone steak with mushrooms and onions, shrimp scampi and a salad with 1/2 cup of no sugar added butter pecan ice cream for dessert

I just have to comment on my steak dinner. It was absolutely delicious! I make a mean (delicious and juicy) steak. This is the first steak I have had without the requisite potato I would usually have but with my shrimp scampi and mushrooms and onions, I didn't even miss the potatoe! Yummy! DH and DS went to a basketball game last night and went for wings afterward. I can tell you my dinner was much much better than theirs! :)

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM ab sculpt (all advanced moves) which makes 12 days straight of FIRM exercises and water was a 4.5. Not too bad for a weekend.

That's a wrap for Sunday!

Marcia - I think I seem a bit too virtuous about the ice cream. When I say 1/4 cup, I mean once the ice cream has semi-melted it fits into a 1/4 measuring cup. It is really sweet but I was able to eat a bit more last night so it was somewhere between 1/4 cup and 1/2 cup melted. I try to be careful because we are only allowed 75 dessert calories per day and that ice cream has 110 calories for a serving so I try not to eat the whole serving. Thanks so much for celebrating my loss and my new clippie with me. I'm very excited about it!

Beth - thanks for stopping by! I hope I do make my April 1st challenge. I've got 2 pounds to go to reach it. I'm going to try to be as confident in my ability as you are! :) Thanks again!

Erin - Hi! I'm smiling from ear to ear about reaching the 40 pound mark. I have such a long way to go but as I look back, I've come farther than I ever thought possible. Thanks so much for supporting me!

RJudy - Hi! Thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, the more success I have, the harder I'm willing to work to get to my goal. It's exciting and kind of scary at the same time. I had someone say to me this morning that she had better speak to me now because I'm getting so thin and beautiful that she doesn't think I'll be speaking to her soon! I know she was just kidding but I don't ever want to give anyone the impression that I'm stuck up because I've lost a few pounds - or even when I get to goal for that matter. I want to be the same person I've been for the past 37 years.

Everyone have a great cheat free day! :)

Yummy dinner! Especially the shrimp. I have had steak 2 or 3 times now without the potato and have to admitt - I don't miss it at all! I usually just substitute it with some great veggies like asparagus or I add shrimp to my plate when I am out at a resturant. The potato doesn't even tempt me anymore - which is very freeing.

You are doing so awesome girl! Keep it up!

~Amanda

Hi Lisa!
The weather is supposed to be much improved here over the next few days. ::yes:: I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy it. I'm not sure if I will be able to or not... Just depends on if I get called for Jury Duty.

I'll be joining you on the Beach on Sunday. I'm pretty nervous about starting a new diet because I don't want to fail. I tend not to do too well on diets, but if I don't try... I'll never know.

Have a great Monday!!

March 22, 2004 (Monday) Day 113 on the Beach

I just have time for a quick post of my menu for the day and will try to stop back by later.

Menu for today:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 2 small sausage patties
S: 7 whole almonds
L: tuna salad with whole wheat crackers and an orange
S: Dannon light and fit 4 oz. yogurt (peach)
D: beef stroganoff over long grain converted rice with 1/2 cup of no sugar added butter pecan ice cream for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM cardio sculpt blast which was great. I'm getting the hang of some of the moves. Day 13 of FIRM exercising. Water was a 5.0.

That's a wrap for Monday!

Amanda - Hi FIRM buddie! Steak and shrimp are my new favorite. Who would have thought you wouldn't miss a potatoe! Thanks for the support; have a great afternoon!

Tracy - I look forward to your pulling up a chair on joining me on the Beach! I think you'll like the Beach. It's flexible and the food is just great. Especially if you concentrate on all the yummy foods you can eat and not the junk you should stay away from. The sun is shining here and I hope it's shining on you too!

Hi Lisa. Just wanted to send you some :sunny: for your Wednesday. Hope the rest of your week goes well.

March 23, 2004 (Tuesday) Day 114 on the Beach

I think my idea of working everyday is not such a good one. I said if I started to feel bad effects from non-stop exercise days I would cut down. I feel like an exercise junkie! No one could have ever convinced me that I would have to stop myself from exercising. It's just crazy. I was feeling kind of bad this morning (sore neck and right wrist) so I made myself stay in the bed this morning and take a needed rest. I do feel a little better. I'm also going to take Saturday as a rest day and from now on Saturdays will be my day to let my body recover from my work outs.

Here's my menu for the day:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk, 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese and 2 small sausage patties
S: 7 whole almonds
L: leftover beef stroganoff over 1/2 cup of long grain converted rice and an orange
S: Dannon light and fit 4 oz. yogurt (strawberry)
D: grilled bacon sirloin cheeseburger on whole wheat bread with lettuce, tomato and mayo with a no sugar added fudgesicle for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did FIRM body sculpt (upper body) for my work out this morning and even though this makes 14 straight days of exercising for me and I'm proud I've gone this far, it's time to slow down a bit. Water level was a 4.0. Could have done better.

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

RJudy - thanks so much for stopping by and bringing some sunshine to my day. I appreciate it! :)

Lisa:

Getting through just a few pages of your journal is so much fun. You are such a positive, sunny person. Your success is amazing! I'm so thrilled for you. More than that, the way you find ways to measure the new "you" besides the scale is inspirational.

Please don't feel badly if you miss exercise for a day here or day there. Sometimes your body needs the break. It doesn't mean that you aren't active in some other way - a good stretch or taking the stairs instead of the elevator is just as important as aerobics and weights. But I think you get that...just like understanding the SBD rules of what is good for you and what is not so good and what is trouble. It upsets me when people see me with a Starbucks cup and assume its a double mocha w/whipped cream! I know what I need to eat and what I need to avoid. I don't want the food police on my tail, even if they are well-meaning.

Here's to a shopping trip for new, stylish slacks! You deserve them, Girlfriend! Congrats on your continued success.

-Laurie

:sunny:

Hi Lisa! Just wanted to say thanks for stopping in my journal and giving me some advice. I think you are right about the body needing to adjust to the new workouts and actually building muscle.

~Amanda

Lisa! Give yourself a much deserved break! I'm aiming for exercising 5 times a week. So far I'm doing pretty well with that. I've had a few busy days that I haven't been able to do do anything, but for the most part I find if I can at least stick to the 5x I feel much better overall.

Best of luck to you today! You've got a great plan there!

March 23, 2004 (Wednesday) Day 115 on the Beach

I had a very rough day at work today. It was absolutely brutal! I worked my regular 8:30 am to 5:00 pm hours and then was asked to stay until midnight! Fortunately, I only worked until 10:15 pm but it was a very long, stressful and tiring day. Some of my SBD buddies tried to get me to order chinese with them. I resisted. Fortunately, the firm bought us lunch today and I ate the delicious insides of a chicken salad sandwich which included lettuce, tomato and a slice of cheese. That left my tuna salad and whole wheat cracker lunch for my dinner at 7:30 pm. Boy, tuna never tasted so good!

One of the girls e-mailed me after tempting me with the Chinese and said how proud she was that I didn't cave under the pressure. I told her that I was not going to get on the plane in June and have to ask for a seatbelt extender. I am determined to make next 10% goal before vacation in June and I'm just 10 pounds away from victory! I'm also 1 pound from making my April 1 challenge and intend to make it so I have a lot to be focused on that's very positive and I has this board to thank. Joining a challenge really helps to crystalize your goals.

Okay on to today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of ww flakes with 1% milk and 3 slices of bacon
S: 7 whole almonds and a cup of coffee (Equal and a bit of cream)
L: chicken salad sandwich without the bread but with lettuce, tomato and a slice of cheese and an orange with a diet Coke
S: Dannon light and fit 4 oz. yogurt (peach)
D: tuna salad and whole wheat crackers with an orange

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I decided to take a break from exercising because I'm feeling a bit sore and kinda under the weather too. The grey sky and rain is not helping my mood any either and neither did working almost 6 hours of overtime. I did manage to stay on plan eating wise and drank lots of water so I'd say water was a 6.0. Very good!

That's a wrap for Wednesday!

Laurie - thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your support! I can't wait to go shopping for some new things, hopefully I'll be able to find some shorts and a couple of cute tops for my Disney trip. It's getting closer and I'm getting excited.

Amanda - I hope what I said made sense. I know I was discouraged for the past five or six weeks with my small loses when I was doing so well before I started using the weights. I hope things are back to normal now. I'm just 1 pound from my April 1 goal and just a couple of weeks ago, I had resigned myself to not making it all with the slow losses. Hang in there, Amanda, I know you'll see the results you deserve!

Desiree - thanks for stopping by and encouraging me! Thanks for sharing your exercise schedule with me. I do see the value in taking at least 1 rest day per week but it's so hard to do that and I never thought I would say I don't want to take a break from exercising. Anyway, I appreciate you sharing your routine with me. You are a doll!
