Lisa's Journal (Life on the "Beach" - Part 2 all the way to goal!)

February 3, 2004 (Tuesday) Day 65 on the Beach

Not too much happening out of the ordinary today. I did get invited to a gathering next Saturday and just about everybody in my life knows I'm on South Beach so my hostess was kind enough to ask me what I could eat. I know they will have lots of stuff with processed sugar and flour so I am making a pan of my crustless pizza, bringing my own diet soda and stopping at Ruby Tuesday's for a slice of lc cheesecake to enjoy while they eat cake and pie. It does pay to be prepared. I will report back how it went.

Menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese, 2 small sausage patties, 1 slice of whole wheat toast with grape simply fruit spread and 1/2 glass of 1% milk
S: 7 whole almonds
L: chef salad with lf ranch dressing
S: 60 calorie light and fit 4 oz. yogurt (peach)
D: 3 slices of bacon and 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal with 1% milk (leftover chili for the rest of family)

Excercise/Water Gauge:
I didn't exercise this morning. I slept in instead and it felt good! I would say water was a 5.0. Not bad.

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

A - thanks for stopping by. I figure if I'm going to be on a new eating program, then I should only eat the foods I really love. It makes it easier not to cheat and more important, it makes it easier to stay with the program. I hope you are thinking good thoughts today.

Doe - thanks for commenting on my clippie! I was so excited to get my first gold one. I hope you have a wonderful trip! Take care and know that we will miss you!

Amanda - Hi! Thanks for checking on me. I love exercise (did I just say that?). I feel so good afterwards. I actually feel so much stronger and even better mentally and emotionally during my day at work when I exercise. That is what keepe me going.

Marcia - thanks for the support. I appreciate it. My WISH buds are the best!

Beth - Hi!! Whoever came up with the clippies is a genuis! They sure help to keep you motivated.

good morning lisa :)

that gathering on saturday sounds like a lot of fun. and kudos to you for planning ahead with your food options. that cheesecake will do wonders for you when everyone else is having their desserts! such a great idea, and you won't feel deprived :)

hope you have a bright and sunny day :sunny:

February 4, 2004 (Wednesday) Day 66 on the Beach

When I got home from work I tried on my favorite pair of "skinny" shorts. They are the smallest pair I own. I tried them on a couple of weeks ago and they were really tight. I couldn't sit comfortably with them on. Well they fit very well now! Yea me! I was so happy I went to the closet and grabbed the smallest sized top I own, size 14/16, and it fit too. Snug but still that is progress. I also tried on a DVC Hilton Head teeshirt, size XXL, I bought back in 2002 that has never ever fit and not only can I wear it, it is too big in the sleeves! It does fit well across my chest and hips and that was the problem I had with it before. It's so nice to see progress.

Also my DH is so cute. He saw me trying on stuff so he ran to his closet and started pulling stuff out. He tried on his waist size 52 shorts and they would not stay up on his hips. They just kept falling down. I was so happy for him and the look on his face was just priceless! He had 1 pair of waist size 48 shorts and he put them on and they are really lose on him too. He has made such wonderful progress! I asked him if we go on a cruise with our friends in September if he plans on eating off program. He looked at me a bit strangely and said that he thought we were doing this "for life". I said yep that's the plan but I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. I am so proud of him and his success so far!

Today's menu:
B: 3 slices of bacon, 2 scrambled eggs with lf cheese, 1 slice of whole wheat toast with grape simply fruit spread and 1/2 glass of 1% milk
S: forgot to eat my almonds (again!)
L: chef salad with lf ranch dressing
S: light and fit 60 calorie yogurt (strawberry)
D: grilled pork chop with 1/2 cup of long grain converted rice and broccoli with lf cheese sauce and 1/2 cup of no sugar added ice cream for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:

I did my FIRM cardio workout for 30 minutes which always makes me feel great. Water was a 5.0. Pretty good.

That's a wrap for Wednesday!

CourtasanSatine - thanks for stopping by my journal! Have a good afternoon.

Marcia - thanks for the well wishes for my day. You have a good one too. I hope I have a good time at the party next Saturday. I don't want to cause attention to myself by being different but I figure one or two guests may wish they had cheesecake like me, but my hostess is a very good cook so I am sure they will enjoy their goodies as well.

Lisa, what a great post. I could just picture you and your sweetie trying on clothes like little kids! Do you feel younger, as well as lighter?! I am so happy for you. It must be such a great bonding experience for you and dh to be doing this and succeeding together.

Your menu, again, looks wonderful. I do have a question for you. I am always afraid to use lf salad dressing because of the possible added sugar. I must have missed that page in the book. Could you refresh me on the thinking behind salad dressings? Thank you.

Good for you for doing your exercise today. I think that is the key to more rapid weight loss, but I haven't yet made it a part of my day on a regular basis. Maybe you will motivate me to do so.

Have a super day!!!!! I'll be thinking about you.:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:         :wave

Hi A! I read your post on the exercise thread about taking tennis lessons - good for you! You are such an inspiration to me. Adding exercise helps so much with weight loss and even our mental disposition. I know I feel better when I make working out a part of my daily routine. I just finished 7 miles on my exercise bike and I feel too wired to go to sleep! That's why I like to exerise in the morning. Oh well - after the day I have had, I actually can't wait to fall asleep so hopefully I won't lay tossing and turning in bed all night.

DH and I had a good time trying on all those clothes last night. Now we just need to find the money to buy a few in between pieces as we keep losing.

About the low fat salad dressing. Dr. A. states 3 grams or less of sugar in salad dressing is acceptable. I use Kraft "Light Done Right" Ranch which has 1g of sugar. Hope this helps you out. For your reference, if you are ever in doubt of whether a food is acceptable, you can log onto www.prevention.com and go to their message boards. There is a SBD forum there and they have a wonderful search engine. You can plug in any food and get the latest info of whether it is acceptable or unacceptable. Have a great night and thanks for thinking of me. Know that I think of you often too!

Lisa: I hope you do not mind a question:) Since I'm curious about the plan is there a diet soda that works on it? and how does Starbukcs coffee fit in?

have a :sunny: day

Good morning, Lisa, and welcome to Day #67 on the Beach! :Pinkbounc Do you know you're an amazing woman? You have changed the course of your life--there is no going back!

I loved your skinny clothes story. . .I can just imagine the glee you and your DH shared. How great that you've made this lifestyle change together! Doesn't it make you wonder how some people do it with a spouse who's offering them "just a bite" of chips?? Btw, did you see "Extreme Makeover" last night? They featured a couple who met in an overeaters support group. Each had lost 100 pounds and fell in love in the process. They ended up with these makeovers, revealed at their wedding in WDW! Too amazing. Anyway, you and DH are a makeover happening right before our eyes! Thank you for sharing your inspirational journey with us.

Thank you, too, Lisa, for the support you give me in my journal. I always appreciate your visits.

Have a good day and fun time at the party tomorrow. I know that you're going to get lots of positive attention from people who admire your strength and all that you've accomplished. Enjoy!

Erin

February 5, 2004 (Thursday) Day 67 on the Beach

I wore my skinny A line skirt again today and it is so loose in the waist that the skirt now comes down to my ankles! I love it! It isn't quite ready to fall off my hips yet and I'm glad because I love that skirt. I remember when I first wore it the first week of SBD and I thought my circulation was going to be cut off it was so tight. I like seeing accomplishments for all my hard work. Of course DH doesn't have to work out at all and the weight is just falling off him. I'm happy for him but a little envious too. It's shouldn't be so easy for men! :)

I made another observation today. I was sitting in a chair in the firm's cafeteria at lunch and realized how comfortable I fit in it. I used to have to shift my weight and my thighs would be almost bulging out the sides but now there's room to spare when I sit down and I fit very nicely. I'm still a big fat woman and I'm not deceiving myself on that but someone said something so cute to me today which helps me to know I'm making progress in the right direction.

One of my co-workers was riding up in a crowded elevator with me and she asked me if I was shorter. It threw me off for a second. I told her no, I wasn't shorter. She said she was positive I looked smaller. She asked me if I was wearing flat shoes, I said no. One of the other ladies spoke up and said, she lost weight can't you tell? Then the other lady said she knew it was something and paid me the nicest compliment. It is a wonderful feeling for someone to say that not only can they tell you have lost some weight, but that you are a smaller person. It made me smile all afternoon whenever I thought about it.

Menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese, 3 slices of bacon, 1 slice of whole wheat toats with grape simply fruit spread and 1/2 glass of milk (I ended up only eating about half of my breakfast because I still felt full from the rice last night)
S: 7 whole almonds (I am still full from breakfast so I don't know if I'll eat them)
L: leftovers from dinner (grilled pork chop and 1/2 cup of rice)
S: 60 calorie yogurt (peach)
D: taco salad and an extra .5 litre bottle of water instead of dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I rode my exercise bike for 7 miles in the evening and drank so much water that I think I actually scared the secretary in the cubicle next to me. I drank three 12 oz. cups of water with my lunch and must have gone to the little girls room 8 times between 2:30 and 5:00. If nothing else I guess I'm trying to flush the fat out of me :hyper: . I would give my water gauge a never before registered 8.0 for the day. Awesome!

That's a wrap for Thursday!

CourtasanSatine - thanks for stopping by! I drink 1 diet soda with dinner just about every day on SBD. I like the flavors of Diet Rite but DH drinks diet Pepsi. I don't drink Starbucks since I've started SBD but I have had a "skinny bou" from Caribou coffee. It has 120 calories and is delicious! I found out that you can order something similar at Starbucks too. It's expresso, skim milk and zero calorie vanilla syrup. Yummy! I hope this answers your questions. Are you thinking about trying SBD?

Erin - thanks for supporting and encouragement me, I really do appreciate it! I try to stop by all my WISH buds journals but it is getting harder and harder. My circle of WISH friends keeps getting larger and larger but I am trying to get to everyone because you all are important to me. And I agree with you, I couldn't imagine having a spouse that didn't support me on this woe. I think having him and I do this together has not only strengthened us as individuals but as a married couple too. I am so grateful he's on the program with me. That party I'm going to is next Saturday and I will be sure and post how it went. Have a good weekend Erin and I'll be over to your journal soon!

thinking about it but the idea of low carbs would make me crazy

lisa, i am loving reading about all of these nsv you are having! first off, the trying on clothes with dh like you guys were little kids, that is so cute! sounds like you had a blast! and fitting into a lunch chair comfortably when you're used to it being tight, what a wonderful feeling. and i'm smiling huge for you too about the elevator story :teeth: . "you are a smaller person" how great is that? i can understand why you couldn't stop smiling. i can't stop smiling for you!

you're doing such a great job, and all of these "little" things are just proving it even more! i'm so happy for you, keep it up, and you're gonna keep adding up those nsv (and scale victories as well!) :bounce:

February 6, 2004 (Friday) Day 68 on the Beach

I wanted to make sure I checked in this evening and wrote down my menu. I am so excited because today (Saturday) I completed the entire FIRM cardio video. All 55 minutes! Woohoo!!! That is an accomplishment for me and except for a part towards the end with leg and butt lifts, I didn't think the whole work out was too hard. Yea me!

Menu
B: 2 scrambled eggs with lf cheese, 3 strips of bacon, 1 slice of whole wheat toast with grape Simply Fruit spread and 1/2 glass of 1% milk
S: 7 whole almonds
L: chef salad with lf ranch dressing
S: 60 calorie Light and Fit Dannon yogurt (4 oz.)
D: crustless pizza and a diet rite with 1/2 cup of no sugar added ice cream for dessert

Execerise/Water Gauge:
I did the FIRM cardio work out (30 minutes) and water was a 5.0. Pretty good.

That's a wrap for Friday.

Thanks CourtasanSatine and Marcia for stopping by to check on me.

Everyone have a wonderful Saturday night!

February 7, 2004 (Saturday) Day 69 on the Beach

This was a crazy day. Had a lot of things going on at home with DS. I didn't go to bed until 4:00 in the morning. Teens can be interesting to say the least. Normally after a stressful evening like that I would have headed straight for the frig. It's hard to deal with raw feelings without medicating myself with food. But I am learning. It's draining but so worth it.

Earlier in the day I did buy myself a bra at a department store and couldn't resist buying myself a pair of purple silky panties as a treat.

Menu:

B: 2 scrambled eggs with a slice of lf cheese, 3 slices of bacon, 1 slice of whole wheat toast with grape simply fruit spread
S: no snack this morning - still full from lunch
L: double cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato (BK) with 1 slice of whole wheat bread and a diet Rite
S: no afternoon snack today
D: buffalo chicken strips and homemade cole slaw and I skipped dessert tonight as my official weigh in is tomorrow morning so no dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did my entire 55 minute FIRM cardio video! It wasn't even that hard. Well, the leg lifts toward the end were but everything else was manageable. That's a nice accomplishment. Yea me! Water was a disater today. Between running errands (I forgot my water at home) and dealing with DS all night, I hardly drank any water. I would give it an all time low of 3.0 for water. Oh well.

Weight Loss:
I weighed in today (Sunday) and lost 1 pounds this week. Downward is good but I was hoping for 2 pounds. I think there are a few things I can do to tweak the program like eating less whole wheat bread and not having a slice early in the morning. Definitely getting my water in and eating less sodium. I do believe that stepping up my work out routine may be the partial cause of not losing as much as my body turns some of this fat into muscle. I have lost 31.5 pounds and I am 3.5 pounds to my next 10% goal, so I have made a lot of progress. You cannot rush your body to take off weight and I did lose 3 pounds last week. I would be nervous if I lost that type of weight every week so I will just be happy with my 1 pound.

That's a wrap for Saturday!

lisa, there are so many positives going on since i last checked in on you, i am so impressed!!! first off, another pound gone, and being so close to your 10% goal...that is so great :bounce:

and i cannot tell you how proud i am of you for not running to the fridge after the emotionally draining time with ds. you have definitely gone through a major change since you started this journey, and it is so wonderful for you! silky panties make a much nicer treat anyway :p

making it through the entire firm video! good for you! all of your working out efforts are certainly paying off :)

and i am so proud of you for realizing that it's okay for the weight loss to be a little slow. you're definitely building some muscle, and like you said, it's not good to rush the weight off. keep it up, slowly but surely, and you'll reach your goals :)

have a great day today :sunny:

Whoa, you've been a busy bee haven't you?:D So many accomplishments since I last reviewed your journal. Let's see, the A line skirt, the t-shirt that now fits but the arms are too big, the skinny shorts. the 14/16 top that almost fits now, the fitting in the chair! Oh, and being able to get through the FIRM tape! I'm so proud of you Lisa!::yes:: You've been an inspiration to me along with my other WISH friends.

Boy, teenagers can be a challenge, can't they? I hope everything is ok. I can sympathize Lisa, I have a 14 year old son at home. Sometimes you just have to ask them, " What were you thinking?! What's going through your head?" I guess it just comes with the territory. Be proud that you didn't turn to food to deal with your emotions. It seems that you're acutely aware of your feelings and how they're connected to food sometimes. Keep up the good work!

:D

February 8, 2004 (Sunday) Day 70 on the Beach

I stayed in bed a good part of the day today after the emotionally draining situation with DS last night. I did weigh in which I reported on yesterday's thread and I'm happy with my 1 pound loss. I actually got on the scale again this morning (Monday) and lost another .5 pound but I won't count it, I could just tell my body felt different, lighter actually so I weighed myself. I try to keep it down to once a week. This brings my total to 32 pounds including the 1/2 pound from this morning so I have 21 more pounds to reach my second minigoal and hopefully that will happen before my Disney trip on June 6th.

Today's menu:
B: 2 scrambled eggs with cheese, 3 slices of bacon, 1 slice of whole wheat with grape simply fruit spread
S: no snack
L: grilled cheese on 2 slices of whole wheat bread and a diet Rite (white grape)
S: no snack
D: grilled pork chop, 1/2 cup of converted rice and broccoli with lf cheese sauce - dessert of 1/2 cup of no sugar added ice cream

Exercise/Water Gauge:
No exercise today. I did the entire 55 minute FIRM video yesterday and I was pretty sore today and a little down emotionally too so I skipped it today. Water was a 4.0. Not too bad for a weekend.

That's a wrap for Sunday!

CourtasanSatine - thanks for stopping by, I appreciate the support!

Marcia - Thanks for the encouragement. I keep telling myself slow and steady wins the race. I didn't gain this weight overnight and it is coming off in good clips so 1-2 pounds is about right. Not running to the frig is a big step for me. I really want this weight gone - and I want it bad so I'm working hard to make real lifestyle changes. Thanks for noticing.

Lisa - Hi! I'm so glad you stopped by to check on me. I have to get over and check on you. Things are going pretty well with me and I'm happy with my progress. Thanks for supporting me. I appreciate it.
