Lisa's Journal (Life on the "Beach" - Part 2 all the way to goal!)

Lisa, I LOVE your idea of a new shade of polish every 5 pounds! My nails could use some attention too! A home manicure is a great way to pamper ourselves without spending a lot. ::yes::

Keep it up, girlfriend!! :sunny:

January 19, 2004 (Monday) Day 50 on the Beach

Celebrate with me as I acknowledge my 50th day cheat free! It has been an amazing ride so far and I hope that I can keep this record going. It is not easy by any means but it's important for me to give this all I've got. I'll be turning 37 soon and I don't want to reach 40 and feel the way I was feeling or look the way I was looking just 2 short months ago.

Thanks so much to my WISH buddies for being there for me. Your support and encouragement really helps to spur me on!

Menu:
brunch today instead of breakfast and lunch: mock french toast with sf syrup and 3 small sausage patties
snack: 7 whole almonds
dinner: homemade chili with a drop of lf sour cream and lf shredded cheese on top with a cup of no sugar added hot chocoloate for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did my FIRM cardio video for 40 minutes. Yea me! And water was about a 4.0.

That's a wrap for Monday!

A - thanks for the encouragement! I hope you are doing well today.

Marsh - thanks for stopping by. I am working my little tail off because I don't want to get on an airplane in June and not be able to buckle the seatbelt again! That was a pretty traumatic experience and I remember that feeling whenever I feel like cheating or "rewarding" myself with food. Nail polish is a much nicer reward!

Doe - I appreciate you stopping by. You always make me smile! I hope you are having a good day today.

Take care everyone!

Woohoo, look at that new 25 lb clippie, it fits you like a glove! But not for long cuz now you're headin' for gold! I'm so proud of you Lisa, you're doing wonderfully. And I love the way you handle yourself in those tough social situations. They are a challenge, aren't they? You not only have a new clippie, but you're 50 days cheat free, wow! I hope you're taking pics of yourself to chart your progress. The last pic I have of myself is on my new Costco card when I upgraded my membership to Executive last week. I compared that pic with the one from my Visa check card (when I was at my heaviest). Needless to say, I'm going into the bank to get my pic retaken because vendors are starting to doubt it's me. I'd love to see pics of you and all my other WISH buddies posted. Do you have a digital camera? I still haven't bought mine but I think I've finally narrowed down the one I want but I'm waiting to see if the price comes down. As soon as I get it the first thing I'm going to do is post pics. Oh oh, I've gone way over my time limit. I'll check in with you later. Bye!:D

That 25 lb clippies looks so great on you!

Thanks so much for posting your pizza recipes. Can't wait to give them a try.

Onward, downward and inward!

-Laurie

Lisa,

YOU ARE AMAZING!
A Beautiful new clippie AND 50 days cheat free. You have worked so hard, and you deserve every clippie/ reward you can think of. I'm so proud of you. Keep up the tremendous work, and you'll be tightening that seat belt in no time.
Beth

Wow!!!! What are you going to do for this occasion? Sounds like a party or reward of some sort is in order? What do you have in mind for the 50 days???? How about the next 50 days cheat free? The polish is great. How 'bout asking dh for a nice big piece of diamond jewelry for every 50 days cheat free???????;) ::yes:: ;)

:jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1: :jumping1:
Hooray, Hooray, Hooray, Hooray, Hooray, Hooray, Hooray!

Lisa, I'm so happy for you! I'm rather slow in finding out the news, but I want you to know that I'm sharing your joy! You are such an inspiration--50 days cheat free!!!! OH, MY GOSH! I can't even imagine doing it myself. I stand in complete awe. ::yes::

Lisa, I'm with A--we have to talk significant rewards. Start planning now for your 100th cheat free day! Maybe you want to take DH out on another spectacular date--rent a limo, buy a new outfit, the whole works. Maybe you want to pick out a special piece of jewelry (like A said, diamonds are good:p ) that you can look at and celebrate YOU whenever you see it. Maybe you just want to schedule a day off from work and do with it whatever you wish--a quiet walk, a bubble bath. The point is, recognize the changes you're making in YOU and rejoice! Hey--why wait to 100? How about 55?::yes::

Congratulations, Lisa. Keep on keeping on!
Erin

January 20, 2004 (Tuesday) Day 51 on the Beach

Thanks to all my WISH buds for celebrating my 50 cheat days with me! It really means a lot.

All this looking "pretty" is really hard work. I gave myself a manicure to celebrate 50 cheat free days and my polish is chipping already! I don't know if it's because I type a lot during the day, use weights in my work outs or if I am just a rough neck and you just can't take me anywhere! Now I've got to schedule time either tonight or tomorrow to take this polish off and reapply it. Oh, the trials and tribulations of trying to look your best. Maybe I'll just go back to the chipped, plain old ugly nails I had before! (just kidding)

Today's menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 3 slices of bacon
S: 7 whole almonds
L: chef salad with lf dressing
S: no snack (would prove to be a bad thing later in the day)
D: Burger King - I had a double whopper with cheese and bacon. I did order it without the ketchup and mayo so when I got home I threw away the bun, added my own lf mayo on whole wheat bread and it was delicious! I had a Diet Rite (white grape) soda with it and was so full I couldn't eat dessert. Next time I think I'd either go to Subway and try one of their new wraps, get the Chicken whopper (you can't double that) or get a double burger, no cheese, and put my own bread and lf cheese on it at home. I ended up working late and having a meeting after that so I didn't eat until 9:00 pm (lunch was at 12:30).

Morale of this story is: don't skip snacks and don't wait almost 9 hours between meals to eat! Just so you guys know, if you are interested in the "lc platters" at BK, they are a big joke. The "platter" consists of your burger meat squeezed into a salad bowl with the toppings you want on it with a knife and fork. I did better ordering my sandwhich my way and taking it home to doctor it up. Oh, and the price is the same. I think they should charge something like $1 more and give you a small diet drink and a small side salad - then they could call it a "platter".

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did my FIRM ab sculpt video today and water was a 5.0. Pretty good.

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

Lisa - thanks for stopping by and checking on me. I know you are busy! I think DH wants a digital camera for an anniversary present. I am pricing them but they are a bit expensive. He's worth it of course, but I am waiting until I save the money and find something on sale. I have tons of pics from previous vacations including this past August and I plan on taking some more when I lose another 25 pounds. I don't see too much of a difference in my appearance even though other people say they do. But I will get around to it. I'd love to see your pics as well. I'm sure you look stunning with your lose!

Laurie - thanks for the compliment and for stopping by. If you get a chance to try the pizza recipe let me know. I may try to make the one with the crust on Saturday night.

Beth - thanks for the encouragement. I want so badly to get on that plane in June and buckle up like a regular normal person. I was embarassed last time. This is one of my incentives to stay on program. One of my other incentives is, I just made my ressie at the Grand Floridian this morning for me and younger sister (12) and want to sit out by the pool and not be self conscious.

A - you are a sneaky one, aren't you? I already have my play in motion to get DH to buy me a new diamond. I have had my eye on the 3 stone anniversary ring for a couple of years now. I keep hinting around about it but so far no ring. The ring I am currently wearing is so loose it spins around on my finger and very soon will be slipping off my finger. I showed DH the other day and mentioned that I might NEED a new ring soon. He looked at me like "they can just resize the one you have, right?" but he didn't actually say the words. I'm going to keep on him though. I really want that ring and having my current ring falling off my finger might just be the incentive he needs! You are my partner in crime - I love it!

Erin - you make me want to pamper myself everyday! It would be nice wouldn't it? I posted on the WISH board about ideas people have for rewarding themselves and I've gotten some good ones. I think when I get to my 100 cheat free day that I will send myself a beautiful bouquet of flowers. That's not too extravagent and not too expensive. It's nice to think about, that's for sure.

Everyone have a great cheat free afternoon!

Lisa, you are doing so fabulous!! I know I've said congrats on the 50 cheat free days (a HUGE accomplishment!!) but I also want to say congrats on that beautiful new clippie!!

You are such an inspiration to me!! Your determination is awesome! I LOVE your idea about a bouquet of flowers for 100 cheat free days - what a wonderful way to celebrate! I so enjoy flowers and should work them into my rewards also!

Keep going, Lisa! You're going to look stunning on that chaise lounge by the pool at the GF! :sunny:

Hi zera.....
Now Im am checking on you! lol!
I like that Bk idea about bringing it home. I just can;t bare to eat a burger with no bread. Nor can I eat eggs or hot dogs without bread, I think its a consistancy Issue! lol. Anyway our BK's here don;t have the LC yet. I was there saturday and didn't see anything like that. Hopefully soon.
Ill tell ya though, those subway wraps are so good!
I meant to have one today and got side tracked. Tomorrow I am defintely hitting subway. ( as I just worte that I thought, how funny that I am planning a meal for tomorrow, now I know I am on my way) lol.

January 21, 2004 (Wednesday) Day 52 on the Beach

After my fiasco with Burger King last night, I was determined to have my snacks both morning and afternoon and I think they made a big difference in not being ravenously hungry by dinnertime.

One of our friends called my husband "slim" the other day and we both took pause. I mean we call each other that when we're kidding around and encouraging each other but I think he is really starting to realize how much weight he is losing because people are noticing. He owns two suits and they are both getting so big on him that I know very soon he will need a couple more. It's hard to see someone everyday and notice the changes but I looked at him really hard last night and was amazed. I've got one fine looking hubby! I think the part he is most excited about is being able to fit comfortably in the rides at his beloved Cedar Point, but he would never admit it!

Menu:
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat cereal with 1% milk and 3 slices of bacon
S: 7 whole almonds
L: chef salad with lf ranch dressing
S: a 90 calorie cherry/vanilla yogurt
D: taco salad (yummy) and a cup of hot chocolate with reduced calorie whipped topping for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:
No exercise today. I didn't even feel weird about it. DS said to me that I need to rest my body every once in a while so it was okay to take a break today. You know you exercise a lot when your kid starts to notice! Water was a 5.5 today.

That's a wrap for Tuesday!

Doe - you are a rock on this board! You are always there to give each of us encouragement. I don't know how you find the time. I find that it might be days before I can check on one of WISH buddies journals but you are always there spreading your joy, positive attitude and sunshine. Thanks for being you! I am really getting excited about my trip in June. I just need airfare to be a little kinder to me :earseek:!

Renee - thanks for checking on me. I need it! I think the BK's across the country started their LC menus on Tuesday. Don't worry you aren't missing much. Like you, I enjoy bread with my hot dogs and burgers (take out) but when I make a burger at home, I am used to having them now on a bed of lettuce and tomato with mayo and eating them with a fork and knife. In a few weeks DH and I are going to try Hardee's protein burgers which they wrap in lettuce leaves. Should be interesting.

January 22, 2004 (Thursday) Day 53 on the Beach

I wanted to list again my top 20 reasons/benefits of this way of eating for me so that when the scale is not cooperating I can remember other reasons for sticking with this woe besides wieght loss:

*no more snoring
*getting a good night's sleep
*feeling lighter on my feet
*fitting comfortably in chairs
*seatbelt not cutting across my chest in the car
*wedding ring is so loose on my finger it spins
*pantyhose aren't tight anymore
*I wore a pantsuit 2 sizes smaller to a function recently
*my shoes are much looser
*my winter coat is actually big on me
*compliments I get from people (just about daily)
*emotional, physical and mental intimacy with DH
*I'm starting to like the reflection I see in the mirror
*I feel like I am accomplishing something positive for me
*I'm not as tired when I come home from work in the evenings
*don't need weekend naps
*don't feel like I'm going to fall asleep at my desk in the afternoons
*I don't spend my money on all that take out and fast food junk (more money for Disney!)
*I am beginning to be a pretty good cook and even like to cook now
*I know I am losing inches (the tape measurer tells me so and so do my clothes!)

I also wanted to list some things I might like to treat myself to as I reach certain weight loss goals. At 50 pounds I want to take swimming lessons; I know I want to treat myself to a makeover at MAC when I lose 75 pounds; at 100 pounds I want to plan a formal anniversary party for me and DH and at goal I am going to take ice skating lessons. And in the not to distant future, when I reach 100 cheat free days I'm sending myself flowers. These are just little things to look forward to on my journey of self discovery.

Menu
B: 1/2 bowl of whole wheat flakes with 1% milk and 3 slices of bacon
S: can you believe I left my almonds at home? so no morning snack
L: tuna salad with lettuce and tomato and a slice of whole wheat bread
S: 1 chicken and cheese roll-up
D: grilled sirloin bacon cheeseburger on a bed of lettuce and tomato and a cup of hot chocolate for dessert

Exercise/Water Gauge:

I rode my exercise bike for 5 miles this morning and water was a 5.0. Not bad.

That's a wrap for Thursday.

Hi Lisa! I've missed you guys the last couple of days and all of my WISH buddies have been on my mind even though I missed a day here.

I love that you made a list of the positives you've been experiencing. Your list is very long! Ooh, and I love the rewards you have planned for yourself. I'm planning on getting some spa treatments if we go to PV this December. If we end up not going, I'm definitely going to follow through with my plans. Maybe a treatment the day before we leave for Disney.

I'm happy to see that you have a new clippie and I'm very proud of you. Keep up the good work Lisa. I tomorrow is your official weigh in and I wish you well. I'll check in with you Monday morning to see how you did. Have a good weekend!

hey lisa, i'm so proud of you for recognizing that you are gaining so much from this new healthy way of life, more than just losing weight! sounds like a wonderful list of things to be grateful for :) it's not always about the scale. i'm a firm believer that the inches mean much more than the pounds. :teeth:

Lisa, your list of positives is truly amazing!! We so often get focused on that scale number but it really is just a nice side benefit, along with many other wonderful benefits of eating healthy and exercising. Glad to hear you're getting compliments and wearing smaller clothes. It's great that your DH is sharing in your success - the two of you are gonna keep getting better and better lookin'!! I hope you have extra money in your clothes budget for all those smaller sized clothes you're both going to need! ::yes::

Hi, Lisa. Just had to drop by and tell you how much I enjoyed reading your 20 good things about losing weight and hearing your reward plan. It's given me a reason to pause and reflect about my own journey. We've all come so far in making good decisions for ourselves, and I think a key factor is how we have surrounded ourselves with the support of these boards. It's a daily, even hourly support system that is always in place to lift us when we're low or to celebrate our victorious highs. Thank you for being such a big part of it!

Have a great Sunday, Lisa, and tell "Slim" I said hello!:p
(Ain't losing weight great? You and DH gotta be looking fine!)

Erin

I'm going to combine Friday and Saturday together because I feel a bit lazy and I forgot to record Friday's activities because I was so busy posting on the main WISH board!

January 22, 2004 (Friday) Day 54 on the Beach

Menu:

B: 1/2 bowl of cereal and 3 slices of bacon
S: 7 whole almonds
L: tuna salad on 1 slice of whole wheat bread
S: 90 calorie yogurt
D: crustless pizza (yummy)

I did my cardio FIRM video work out today. My water intake was about a 5.0. I can't remember too much more from Friday so I guess that's a wrap.

January 22, 2004 (Saturday) Day 55 on the Beach

This was a very busy day with running errands and visiting family. I wore my only pair of jeans to my sister's house with a pullover sweater and two of my sisters commented that I need new clothes! It was nice to hear. They both commented on how baggy my jeans were. I could probably have fit my 3 year old niece down the waist part of the jeans and still would have room. I know I need new clothes but that will have to wait until spring. It is a very good feeling though.

Menu today:
B: no breakfast
L: I had breakfast for lunch: 3 small sausage patties mock french toast with sf syrup
S: 7 whole almonds (I've been out running errands and visiting family so while they were snacking on popcorn I had my snack)
D: fried chicken breast (canola oil) on top of a salad with lf dressing and I got 2 pieces of lc cheesecake from Ruby Tuesday's for me and DH for dessert - yummy yum!

Exercise/Water Gauge:
I did not start my day with exercise and that's why I ended up not doing anything! I have found I need to begin the day with a work out or it just won't happen. Water was about a 4.0. Not too bad for a weekend. I try to carry a bottle of water with me wherever I go and that helps.

That's a wrap for Saturday. I did weigh myself this morning (Sunday) and the results will have to wait until tomorrow. I will say this woe is good! Thank you South Beach and thanks to my WISH family for all the support I receive.

Lisa - thanks for checking on me! I appreciate it. I hope you can make your trip and that spa treatment sounds wonderful. You definitely deserve it. Take care.

marsh - thanks to you for stopping by. I am learning that those inches mean just as much if not more than the pounds. Sometimes I get scared around weigh in time that I won't see a loss for that week so I try to reinforce to myself why the woe I have chosen is best, even if the scale doesn't always cooperate.

Doe - hi!!!! Thanks for your encouraging words. I can't get over sometimes how good DH is looking. His energy level is way up there (if you know what I mean) and the smile on his face and twinkle in his eyes makes me want to just hug him to death. I can tell he is feeling so much better about himself. I'll stop now, or I'll start crying.

Erin - your support and encouragement mean so much to me. I haven't been keeping up with my WISH buds journals like I would like to and I'm going to make sure to catch up with each of you because reading your successes and struggles helps me so much. Thank you for being here for me! I'll tell "Slim" you said hi!

So Lisa, has anyone ever told you you are a tease? Just kidding. Every Sunday you hint at your weight loss, but never tell. I'll just have to stay tuned for tomorrow's installment. Your meals look great. It's great that your sister mentioned that you need new clothes. It's good to hear it from others. Keep up that great work.
Beth

Lisa, how great to be needing a new wardrobe! I hope that you enjoy shopping and trying things on in a whole new size. I tried the virtual model that you posted. That was really exciting. I can't even imagine myself that small. I went down ten pounds at a time. As soon as I got to my goal weight the biking went from regular bottoms to string bottoms!!!!!!!! Woo hoo!!!

How do you keep the almonds to only 7? I have a real problem with that. I am a nut junkie.

Have a super Monday. I will be thinking about you. Whether you know it or not, I think about you each day. Your success and commitment have helped keep me focused on my own plan. Thank you for that.

hey lisa, great job on the food this weekend! i'm anxiously awaiting your report tomorrow from the scale :) (even though i'm also preaching that that's not the number that matters :p)
