WDW Trip Report-Part 3

Cast: Myself, Lisa 39, DH Tony 41, DD Ashley 14, Megan (Ashley’s best friend) 14, and son Anthony, now 6.

When: Monday, June 11- Sunday, June 24, 2001. We drive from South Louisiana so the 1st and last day would be travel days as the trip is 11-12 hours, depending on number of stops.

Where: ASMovies 6 nights
Dolphin Last 6 nights

I’m going to summarize the trip report into 3 segments: 1st week, 2nd week, and dining/meals.

Dining

We ate at our favorites this time and only tried one new place, Boma. Most of the places we visit are buffets and all you can eat!

Rainforest Café, AK---this was our first meal for this trip. As always, the food was excellent but the service was SLOW. I had the Rasta Pasta, everyone else had burgers and chicken ceasars. The service was so slow, the buses stopped running to the resort and we had to go to Epcot to get on an ASMovies bus.

Biergarten—this was the German buffet in Epcot. It was our 3rd time here and as usual, the food was good. There wasn’t too many people here so we took our time.

Whispering Canyon---We love this place. This was our 3rd time here. We always come for lunch after an EE day at the MK. Each time we come, I say I will tryu something off the menu but each time, I end up having the BBQ. It’s family style all you can eat and we pig out! Our other friends who were staying at FW came to meet us for lunch and they loved it as well.

Crystal Palace---this is our favorite character meal. We went here for the lunch buffet. The buffet was excellent and the kids got to interact with the characters! This was our 3rd time here and we will return. Our PS was for 12 noon and they were on time with our seating.

O’Hana---This was our 4th time here. We usually save this restaurant for last because it is our favorite. If you time you PS right, you can watch the MK fireworks from here and they “pipe” in the music. We didn’t see them this night but have done so before. There is a lot of meat and my son really enjoyed the shrimp! He ate about 10 of them. We all loved the pineapple and caramel sauce they bring you for dessert! Great meal.

Planet Hollywood---We met Tony’s brother here for lunch. We didn’t have a wait for a table and all had burgers/sandwiches. The food was good and I got an AP discount and had a $5 coupon too so the bill was very reasonable.

Boma---This was a dinner buffet at the AKL. The AKL is very nice but also very dark. The lobby reminded me of WL but I liked WL better. The food was African Buffet and they had a kids buffet for the kids who wouldn’t eat the stuff they had, likew mine. I don’t remember all the food we ate but I do know it was “different.” Not bad but different. They had a huge dessert bar. I didn’t care for the desserts but ate 2 cookies. It was a good dinner. When we walked out of the restaurant and returned to our vehicle, we had a “magical moment”---a rainbow! We also toured the resort while we were here.

Sounds like you guys had some great meals while you were there. I still want to try Crystal Palace. I had a ps last time but couldnt get there on time so we cancelled it.

The Crystal Palace and Whispering Canyon are both places I would like to try on our next trip. Do you need a PS for Whispering Canyon?

Kirby---

You really don't need a PS for Whispering Canyon BUT, if you go when it's full, you may have to wait. I would make one and if you need to cancel it rather than not having one.

We had the family style all you care to eat BBQ skillet. We had baked beans, boiled corn, cole slaw, breadsticks, pork, beef, chicken, and ribs. The kids had the milkshakes which they keep refilling!

We love this place and always went after a EE morning at MK and took the first seating.

The lunch prices are cheaper than the dinner prices too! This is our family's second favorite place to eat. 1st place, I'd say O'Hana!
