Ok I have been a lurker for so long that I thought I would start my own PJ. This is the first time I have ever done anything like this, so I hope I do not bore anyone :rotfl:

A little background about us & how the wedding on the Dream came about....

Quincy & I have been together for 16 years and have finally decided the time was right to get married. We have one son together and he has a son from a previous relationship.

This will be my 5th cruise & Quincy's 4th. Since we couldn't afford a Walt Disney World wedding, this was the next best thing! I fell in love with DCL the first time I boarded the Magic...Quincy not as much, but still is making my dream come true to have a Disney wedding :)

The proposal was nothing fancy, a matter of fact not romantic either. I asked him over a text message while I was mini golfing at Fantasia Gardens in July of 2010. I was there visiting my grandma & uncle and decided that it was no time like now to get married. Of course he agreed and the planning began! Most of you are probably thinking the proposal sounds weird, but it is us...we are laid back and unconventional.

Our son was delighted. My mom called us crazy for tying the knot and his mom was like "why would you want to get married with Mickey Mouse. That is for kids!" (Needless to say she is not coming nor are any of his family..more on that later). Both of our dads were happy about the upcoming nuptials as was the rest of our family and friends, especially my grandma. She has been waiting for this moment for a very long time!!

Welcome to the boards! I like your engagement story ... sometimes simple is best. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

 Yeah!! I am so excited you started a PJ!! I will be following along!!

Lisa, are you going on the cruise that sails October 27th??? If so, we are going to be on the same ship!!!

We are getting married on October 24th and SBP and are finishing off the trip with a honeymoon cruise!

Congratulations! :goodvibes

So as soon as made the huge announcement my family started to book their cruise....most of them even before us :rotfl: I made my list of select guests that I wanted to have there and still keep it under 40 so we didn't have to do it on Castaway Cay. While I think it would be awesome, I am all about the ship itself.

With both sides of the family that would only leave about 10 friends we could invite...most of which I was using. Quincy knew right away that most of his friends & family would probably decline because of the money. It was something I couldn't believe, but made sure he would be ok with still doing it on the cruise without them, especially his parents & brothers. He replied, "All that matters is that we (us & our boys) are there" :lovestruc

Right away my closest friend, Jamie booked. Followed by 2 other close friends. I contacted the cruiseline in August and found out that sail dates through July were starting to sellout. They guy said that we better book and book soon and to let my guests know asap! The planning of the cruise invites began.

I decided to go with a passport type invite that a very crafty co-worker helped me with. I ended up sending out twenty or so. We had made the decision to make the wedding an adult event only to keep the guest count as low as possible. Right away I knew 3 people were not coming and additionally two of my bridesmaids :sad1: One of Quincy's brothers and his closest cousin said we are in....That made me happy :) I said see...your family does want to be there...his reply...I will believe it when they book!!

Needless to say here we are 6 months later and the ship is almost to capacity and no one from his family are coming. That leaves us with 25 total. But now we can include everyone, including the few kids we have coming along. I am sad that his family has choosen not to come, but lke he says, you can make anyone do anything. Very true, but he is the first one to get married and I know if it was them having a destination wedding and they gave us over a years notice to plan & save, we would be no there, no questions asked! It is such a sore subject with me and I am pissed

Thank goodness we have decided to have a celebrations at home when we get back. It was a way to incorporate those who couldn't join us, including most of the wedding party!

I completely understand on the friends not being able to make it. One of my best friends was going to come, but her fiance lost his job and they aren't going to be able to make it (understandably).

Oh and only Brent's parents are able to come (and 15 people from my side of the family). His brother joined the military and won't be able to join us. I feel bad (because I know he is really doing the Disney wedding for me) but he assures me its fine and his extended family may or may not make it into STL for the reception anyways.

I left you answers on my planning journal to the wording for at-home receptions. I just found yours.

Looking forward to reading more. :)

Ok I wanted to post a picture of the cover to my STD...I originally wanted orange & pink as the colors, but have since switched that to make it more structured for both the cruise & home reception. Now I have decided on yellow dresses for the girls, with red and black included some where.
Here is the picture....

I also want to post a picture of my family.....

I would say a lot of people on this board are laid back and unconventional- I think you have to be a little unconventional to be doing a destination wedding! That's the best way to be, if you ask me :goodvibes

Some of our family members had the same response to Disney (they think it's just for children) but little do they know! It's not all Mickey Mouse and Disney Princesses! There's something for everyone.

Your passports are great- looking forward to the rest of your planning!

That is what Quincy kept telling his family about the cruise that it is not just for kids! Thanks for following along :)

UUrrggghhhh....yesterday I was trying to update my PJ and my computer just shut itself down.....sometimes technology stinks!

So let's try round two....

Ok we are less than 5 months and the time is starting to really fly by.

Since my last post I have changed the color of the MOH & BM's dresses AGAIN!!! I am going with apple color dresses and possibly yellow flowers. I will tell you the toughest decision for me so far has been the MOH & BM's dress color and the flowers. I have gone back n forth so many times. There is no turning back as the dresses have been ordered. They fit in so well with the color scheme. They are apple with a black band. We ordered them from David's. Here is a picture.....
Bmdresses.jpg

My cute little flower girl, but of course the dress will be in apple...

I have also decided on my invites...they will bring in the yellow :)

photo-4.jpg

I will post once the invite is complete since I got them at Michael's and still need to put them together :)

They were a steal...80 for $50 including envelopes and the response cards!!
The response card....

Up next...my wedding dress and hair piece

So when I started my search for the "perfect dress" I was thinking something simple, but still says bride. I went to David's and tried a few different styles and thought I found the perfect dress...until I went to a local bridal shop. I must have tried on 20 dresses that day until I fell in love with this one....:love::love:

photo-1.jpg

Yep...nothing simple.

I then tried on a veil, just to see if my decision to wear one changed...nope. No veil for me :rotfl2: I feel I look silly. Instead I am wearing a low key little hair piece thing. It is right up my alley ;)

I am so happy that I decided to spend a little more on my dress!!!

I also wanted to post our rings. They were the first things we got. I was wearing my great aunts ring until my DF came through with this one :cloud9:

The picture doesn't do it justice!!!

and his decision....

Coming up next more planning and decisions.....

Hey!

Just checking in 'properly' this time... because I dont think I read your PJ properly last time otherwise I would have commented on your DFs family not coming to the wedding. :(

Right, Its a bit different for us because we are not having a disney wedding, still getting married in USA but at a golf club instead. Any way... We have invited 90 people most of which have said they will come. However, my nan and Grandad cannot fly... which is unbelievable sad...we were thinking of setting up a video call to them and get someone who can use an ipad to sit with them. I am going to send flowers too on the night of the wedding - Make it really special for them! Grandad is 90 next yr and Nan is 89. They point blank cannot fly and its sad. If feel your pain!

LOVE THE DRESS AND THE NEW COLOUR. I think the lemon will look beautiful! Your Ring is amazing too!

Mwah
