Hello,

So I plan on buying a bottle of rum for my parents as this specific type is available in Florida and not their home state. Now they don't plan on drinking it on-board the ship of course and I am aware of DCL's no liquor policy but if I bring it with me in my carry-on will they just take it and give it to me when the cruise is gone, or will they take it and I will never see it again?

Any hard liquor you bring onboard will be confiscated (or you turn it in when you board in port). They will give you a check for it. You must claim it at the end of the cruise (on the debarkation morning, ONBOARD, before you leave the ship). If you leave the ship without claiming it, you'll lose it.

A little clarification question: Do you mean you'll bringing it onboard at the very start of the cruise? Or from a port during the cruise?

Thank you. Don't know if this changes the answer but this would be at the very start of the cruise at Port Canaveral.

I know you cannot bring such liquor onboard at Port Canaveral, and that they will confiscate it. As to whether that liquor also gets a claim check so that you can pick it - don't know for sure, but I'd doubt it, as it's in the terminal, not onboard that they take it. I don't know if they hold such liquor for you at the terminal. Hopefully someone with experience (and I'm sure there's someone) will chime in here.

Hope this helps - it is right off DCL website... But I have never had to deal with that personally. You may want to call the cruise line to be sure. Or to make it easier, couldn't you just buy it when you get off the boat?

To soften the "I don't know" and the detailed answers...the latter is helpful, but:

Yes, they'll keep it and you get it back when you return. Have a great cruise!

You will claim it after you get off the cruise outside of customs. We had the same issue but with an ukelele my dad brought for my 14 yr old. They confiscated it and gave us a claim check to pick it up when we got back.

I like how they use the word "destroy" for "drink"! I just destroyed that bottle of rum...HIC!

You are addressing alcohol held on embarkation day, right? In the terminal, before boarding? I know that alcohol purchased and brought onboard in ports must be picked up before leaving the ship.

Correct. If it is something you brought with that is not permitted on the ship, it is held outside customs. Totally different from stuff like the rum we picked up in Jamaica which we had to pick up on the ship just to the right of the exit before leaving :D

Thanks, that's what I thought. Just wanted it to be clear to everyone. :teeth:
