DS started a new prescription medication and its liquid, I have always taking his meds in my carry on but can I take this one on? I don't want to pack it for fear of our case getting lost or the bottle getting broken in the case. Thanks, Linda:)

Yes, medications are exempt from the 3-1-1 rule governing liquids and gels in carry-on bags. If the bottle is larger than 3 oz. you should not put it in the quart bag with your small liquids/gels, but should make the TSA screeners aware of the fact that you are carrying the medication. As you noted, packing medications in checked baggage is not a good idea.

We have had to fly with as many as four liquid meds in our carry-on. We simply open up the carry-on bag we designate as out "med bag" and then pull each of the ziploc bags containing liquid meds, or other needed liquids to the top when passing thru TSA. It takes a little while most of the time, but they all get thru. Telling them ahead of time is ALWAYS a good idea; those TSA folks don't like to be surprised by liquids. Just open it up and show them where they all are, and everything will work out fine.

Good luck! :goodvibes

Make sure the prescription is still on the bottle.

Actually, OTC medications also are exempt from the limitations. The prescription is a good idea if it's reasonable, but it's not strictly necessary for domestic travel. It may be required in some other countries.

The prescription is on the box it comes in I guess this was easier to do a the pharmacy because of the special instructions on it was a big label. I will make sure it's in the box. Thanks for the help! Linda :)

1) I tried this with a bottle of 18-year old single-malt scotch.
2) It was for medicinal purposes, you understand.
3) It almost worked.
