I've heard that they are great to use and I've also heard that they really are useless. That little Purell bottle is enticing me when I go to the drug store but before I buy into the concept
and item I would like to get opinions on it.

they are useless??
We use them when we go hiking/camping...no need for water or towels....or maybe i'm thinking of the wrong thing...

I love my little bottle of Purell.

You're going to probably get some comments about it not being good to kill *all* germs, but I actually just went to the Purell Website and found this:

Using PURELL will not create super germs. The theory you may have heard concerns other ingredients. PURELL does NOT contain the ingredients in question. In fact, even the scientist who raised these concerns agrees his theory has nothing to do with alcohol-based products like PURELL.

...along with a whole bunch of supporting evidence as to why you should use Purell and how it works and proof of results.

If you're out and have touched all kinds of gross things or shook hands with someone who just sneezed or something (blech) and are about to go to eat... that little squeeze of Purell is sooooo nice. :) It's nice to have "clean" feeling hands too. :)

What are you waiting for? Go buy a bottle and use it often! :teeth:

the stuff about the super-bacteria is about the antibacterial handsoap and other stuff that has antibiotics in it. purell (if i'm right) uses alcohol to nuke the little buggers, and there's no way for the bacteria to develop resistance against alcohol, so you're fine. :)

and they don't kill everything, but neither does washing your hands thouroughly. they're effective enough.

It's not something I've tried. I think I have an image in my mind that I have to wipe my hands on something to remove dirt and germs. I'll stick with my hand wipes.

We used the hand wipes and the purel. they both seemed to make your hands cleaner..

if you use it chronically, you will change your normal bacterial flora from one that is easily killed by that product to one that is not. (you may not CREATE a super-bug [but you might], but more hearty bacteria will proliferate).

that's the theory, anyway. i haven't actually read the studies where they've cultured hands after chronic use.

they burn my hands, so i don't use them. but i think they'd be good for special occasions, like trips to WDW, where i always seem to pick up a bug.

I keep a little bottle of Purell in my purse or belly bag for those times when we are at places where you get dirty easily and can't always find washing facilities before you snack etc. I use it mostly at places like dog shows, a fair etc. WDW has lots of hand washing facilities, so I don't usually bring it there.

I am a hand sanitizer user.
For any of you with children... Bath & Body Works now has them in really cool scents for kids. They come out of the bottle as a foam for them to rub in instead of a liquid.:D They also have wipes in the same scents:D My kids all love them!
(The wipes come in the regular adult B & BW scents too)

I use a hand santizer in places where washing my hands would be difficult or impossible. I carry a small bottle in my purse for such situations, especially so that I can eat after paying for my food at fast food restaurants. The germs that must be crawling around on money scare me, and I don't really consider myself a germ freak. I also carry baby wipes to use first to remove stickyness and visible dirt when we're camping, at WDW, or something like that.

I am careful to only buy the ones that kill germs with alcohol. I don't use any antibacterial products unless I absolutely have to.

Oh good! I was hoping to hear these responses. Well, I'm off to the store now ;)

I only rarely use it but when I do it's only right before a meal if a sink isn't available.. everyone here seems to be sick and certain classes I'm not allowed to miss at all so I can't afford to be sick. It might not be perfect, but it makes me feel better about it. :p
