Heading to NY for spring break! What is the best source for discount tickets? What are the chances of waiting until we get there and getting last minute tickets? Thanks :)

I waited until the day of the show to buy tickets and there were no discounts available. And that was off season. I don't know if I'd do that over spring break.

We recently went to NYC, and since it was our first trip there, we "sucked it up" and got tickets to see Newsies a couple of months in advance. We LOVED this show!!!

No regrets about the $$$ we spent. It was really important to us to have a specific show to see, plus we love great seats.

When we go back to NYC, we will certainly consider doing reduced -priced tickets, as if we get a chance to go back, it won't be as important to see a show. ( Our trip was a high school grad present for our DD). And if we go back-I feel like we could see one of many different shows. But for the trip we just came back from-we needed to see a show, and having tickets in advance worked for us.

So back to the OP: what happens if you do not get discounted tickets for Lion King? Are there other plays you would be interested in instead? What happens if you need to activate a back-up plan? And-the big question-would you be "ticked off at yourself forever" if you did not get to see Lion King?

FWIW- we have seen Lion King 2 times when it was touring through the Midwest, but in NYC we got to see the costuming exhibit for the LionKing which was amazing! The costuming is amazing. (The costuming exhibit closed in mid-December-and it was free!!! We did not consider Lion King because we have seen it already.

Lion King is never available at the TKS booth.

edited to add: Discounted tickets to Lion King are rare. If there are any discounts sites like broadwaybox (mentioned by next poster), travelzoo, playbill.com and mousesavers are likely to have the information.

Yep, this. It is pretty well known that Lion King and Wicked are basically impossible to get at the TKTS booths. There are discounts for Newsies and Mary Poppins though. Newsies was surprisingly SO GOOD...it was so much better than I expected!

http://www.broadwaybox.com/ shows discounts available now. Otherwise you can always risk it and check the TKTS booth the night before or day of.

I always do well thru Travelzoo. Doubt you'll get any discounts for LK. We just saw Newsies last weekend, and our tix were less than $80 for 3rd. row mezzanine.

You won't find any discounts for Book of Mormon.

Lion King, Wicked (and probably Book of Mormon) sell their last minute inventory at the box office. You can check at the box office for those shows, day of the show. Sometimes they'll be selling tickets from people who won't be using their tickets or they might be releasing house tickets. Don't plan on a discount but you might get good seats at face.

Thanks all! I knew the DIS would have the answers, looks like we will suck it up and buy in advance. I have a DS that is 13 and DD 8 and of course we all love Disney and I have heard LK is amazing. Thanks! :)

Oh, and by the way? Lion King was AWESOME!!!!! We went to see if a few years ago with my daughter's theater camp and it was great. We plan on going to see it again!
