We are going to the Lion King next Wed. for the matinee. Can anyone help me with directions to the theatre? Also is parking readily available near the theatre. We also want to do some shopping at the Eaton centre. Thinking we should park at the theatre, then take the subway?

I'm from Manitoba, so I can't help you out with the directions, but I just wanted to tell you to have a wonderful time at the show! :) I've always wanted to really see The Lion King, so I hope that you really enjoy it PoohBWV! :)

PoohBWV, The Princess of Wales Theatre is on King St. West, just a couple of short blocks west of University Avenue. I haven't driven down that way in a long time (I usually take a train or bus from Woodstock) but you would probably want to take the 401 to Hwy. 427 South. From the 427, exit onto the QEW eastbound into Toronto. The QEW becomes the Gardiner Expressway and I think you would get off at York Street. Take York St north to King St and turn left. You will pass through University Ave and the theatre district is just beyond. The Royal Alex Theatre is first and the Princess of Wales is just down a bit with parking beside (west side) the P of W theatre.

The subway stop (St. Andrew) is at the corner of University and King, just a short walk from the theatre. To get to the Eaton Centre you could either take the University line northbound and get off at the St. Patrick stop and walk along Dundas St (going east) to the Eaton Centre or take the University line southbound and go around the loop at Union Station and get off at the Dundas stop, which is right at the Eaton Centre.

The TTC website is: WWW.TTC.CA

I hope this helps and is not too confusing! :)

Have a GREAT time! It's a wonderful show!

PoohBWV,

Go to www.onstagenow.com. Click on 'Coming to a show?' on the left side of screen. Scroll down to map. Below are parking options right by the theatre. Many of the surface parking lots require you to leave car keys with the booth attendant . They may move your car within their lot to squish in more cars. We never use these lots.

If you want any other parking suggestions near shopping downtown , let me know.:)

I just lost a page of directions to you when I hit 'preview post', so I'm keeping this post short.

I knew I could count on you guys! Thanks for the great info.:)

Pooh,

Another route to consider on the way into Toronto is to take the 403 through Brantford and pick up the QEW at Hamilton rather than taking 401/427/QEW. We drove into Toronto for a site visit to Sick Kids Hospital last Tuesday and took the 401/427 on the drive in (around 11:00am) and the QEW/403 on the drive home (around 4:00pm). We found the traffic much lighter on the QEW than I know it usually is on the 401 near the airport weekday afternoons. Of course, there are always mitigating factors such as snow conditions and accidents which will make one route better than the other, but I may make more use of the 403 for future trips to Toronto based on our experience of last week.
