The touring company of the broadway show Lion King will be here in Tampa December and January. Unfortunately I just now found out about this and the tickets that are available don't seem too great and are pricey....

So, help me out....who has seen this show on tour (or on broadway)? Tell me, is it worth for us(me, DH, DD10, DS7) at the great expense (approx $300)?

Also, is anybody familiar with the Tampa Bay performing arts center Morsani hall? I have the seating chart but cannot tell if the orchestra section is sloped? The only orchestra seats I can get are in row y and if the theatre isn't sloped, that sounds pretty lousy for $75 per seat. Also, can't decide if balcony or galley seats would be worthwhile, these are available on more nights and would fit our schedule better. We're usually pretty snobby with our seating when it comes to seeing broadway productions....I'd rather pay more and have great seats, but unfortunately, the great seats are not available at any price at this late date.

Anyway, give me some advice...To see or not to see?

Back Row or Orchestra, or Balcony Section, or Galley Section??

Thanks for any input!

Okay, so we went through a similar situation looking for tickets for TLK for our trip to Toronto this past summer. We had our choice of close to the back in the orchestra section or closer to the front in the balcony. Although it's hard to say if this would also be the best for your theater, we went with the back of the orchestra and were pleased and glad we didn't choose the balcony. If you call the box office they will usually be able to recommend which they think are better seats or if there are any obstructions, plus whether or not the orchestra is sloped (though my guess would be yes, they usually are, aren't they?). For TLK it is good to be on the main floor section because they dance down the aisles twice it is I believe, so you get to be right close up (especially if you can get aisle seats). Pretty cool to have the elephants etc marching right down beside you rather than looking down from a balcony. So I'd choose orchestra over balcony, and quite honestly I have no idea what a galley is, LOL.

As for whether it's worth the $$$, that's a personal decision. How bad do you want to see it? Would you be really excited about it, or just so-so? What do you think about other Disney musical type shows (i.e. B&TB or mini ones at WDW)?

I Love any and all Broadway Shows! Born and raised on Long Island and went into the city twice a year (at least) to see a show and I really miss doing that down here. We used to travel to NY once a year and always managed to fit in a show. Our most recent broadway shows were the Radio City Christmas show and the broadway version of Beauty and the Beast. The kids loved both and they were 2 years younger then.

So, in answer to your question.....We really, really would enjoy this! My husband was concerned it might be too artsy/new-agey and not as Disney as the kids would expect but after checking out the website for the broadway show we are reassured that we would enjoy it.

It sounds like the Orchestra seats may be the way to go and I will take your advice and call the box office tomorrow for their opinion.

Any other advice????

Other than suggesting orchestra seats unless the box office highly suggests otherwise for your venue... my only other advice is to go for it if you can! :) :) The puppetry really is amazing. :)

I went to NYC to see it a few years ago, and GO GO GO!!!

Its an amazing show, and the way that theater was set up we were in like what would be a non floor /second level first row of second level seats...

you could see the "birds" high above you, and it was really really great... I would go again in a heartbeat.. once the opening song opens, and you see them go down on the stage, you will think "I can't believe I even doubted about this"

So, I gather the show is great!

I can't wait for the box office to open so I can see how the orchestra seating is laid out. It appears hard but not impossible to get seats.....wish I could get some really good ones!

Thanks for the input.....any more?

My DS (13 at the time) and I went on a school trip to the show in Toronto a couple of years ago and both absolutely LOVED it! We had balcony seats and thought they were very good. Some of the characters are actually up in the balcony during parts of the show. I think that as long as you have unobstructed views of the stage, there probably isn't a bad place to sit for this particular show since so much goes on all around the theatre.
I say that if you can swing the cost, go for it!

Saw it in Toronto. Excellent show - worth every overpriced cent.:D
