Linking two DVC member reservations

I was interested in hearing from anyone who has done this in the past. We rented points from another DVC member to not only be able to put together a short vacation but also to help them, since they would be losing those points. So they reserved a Fri-Sat for us, we booked Sunday and then added Thursday, all at SSR for next weekend. Now there were 3 reservations for 4 nights. I had asked a couple times (I assumed maybe the first CM might be incorrect) through "Chat" to find out what the process was, and thought both parties could simply Email a request to link. But each time I was told that the linkage had to be done over the phone with both parties participating. We were able to get this done, though because of work schedules and MS hours, it was a bit of a struggle to arrange the discussion. Luckily we knew the other party which helped. So I was wondering - Is this truly the only process for linking two reservations? What if the two members did not know each other? I thought it very strange that, while not a big deal, I had to confirm my cell phone number while the other party listened in. They had initiated the call with MS and had already confirmed last 4 digits of SSN before I was patched in. Would MS ever ask that question and allow the other party to hear the answer? Again, a phone call or Email from each DVC member would seem to be more secure, confidential, and much easier for the DVC members to take care of.

Anytime you do anything other than the norm, you run the risk of things going wrong. DVC has had issues in the past with linking reservations so they want both parities on the phone.

Both you and the member you are renting points from will have to call DVC MS and place on all three reservations the words "Travel with" and reservation number of the other two reservation numbers. This way the room assigner CM will know that you are wanting one continuing trip in the same room; you WILL have to check out/in for each of the reservations.
