Linking family/friends in app?

I'm looking for updated info on friends/family linking on app,plannign a group trip with 2 families,we'd like to be able to see each other's plans and coordinate, I"m getting lost in all the new tech jargon and not sure which thread to ask this in.... Is it same/different from previous way to link?

I find it easier to do on the website, then you can use reservation info to locate people (if they have an on site stay).
